Perhaps I should point out that normally there is not much of a problem - we obviously use the system on a regular basis, but the last 6 months seemed to have more blips than normal. Jenny
I am trying to budget for a two week holiday halfboard at the Kanta. How much should I exchange ? because I heard you cant get your money back if you exchange too much as its a closed currency.
It would be great if someone who has the euro could tell me what to expect? And how much i should budget for the two weeks?
Thanks
Amelie
£1.00 = 2.33DT
Euro 1.00 = 1.33 DT
However the rates can change daily, depends on the banks mood..!!!!
Easiest and best way is to take sterling and change it in the hotel or any bank. Also the ATM's allow you to draw out to a maximum of 200DT daily
Hope this helps

1.33 dinar is a bit uneven. Maybe i should just round it off to 1.50. I ll get used to it. Its just that I always like to know that I completely under stand the currency.
thanks for your help
Amelie
I'm assuming from your question that you live in somewhere within the Euro zone in which case I wouldn't bother changing from Euros into British pounds and then into dinars once you arrive. You'll have no problems changing Euros or Euro travelling cheques into Dinars at the hotel exchange desks etc. if you do take travellers cheques rather than cash I would sugggest that you make sure that you take them in small denominations and just change small amounts frequently so that you don't end up with a large quantity of dinars at the end of your holiday because there are restrictions on changing dinars back into euros or other hard currencies.

I personally would work it out at 1Euro =1DT that way everything seems the same, however dont be fooled by any of the prices you see for various items.
The currency sounds ok. So 25DT means 25 euro (roughly). Is that how much you would normally pay for a meal in the Marina? And drinks? just to know as we would like to eat out maybe once or twice in the marina.
thanks a million

i am going to hammamet yasmone in july and just wondered if there are any cash machines in the area? please let me know someone
there are plenty of cash machines in the resort, but most are in french there is one near to the casino that is in english
First hoilday to Tunisia in July what's best to take?
went for the first time last year - took bit of cash, plus sterling travellers cheques which can be changed in most hotels, plus cards as back up - plenty of cashpoints.
we just relied on cashpoints, which only let us down one day, when we couldn't find one which was working. If you open a nationwide current account then you can make withdrawals overseas without any charges, this we did. I would tend to take travellers cheques as backup, when we go back this year that's what we intend to do.
Have a lovely time

Have to agree, open a nationwide account for holiday spending. However dont rely entirely on using your card in Tunisia, atms do have a habit of going down for a while. Personally I take two hundred cash in 20's (this is for two people for a week half board) and my card. If Im near a cash point thats working I make a withdrawal, if not then I have cash to change at the hotel.
I was just looking for some advise. Me and my husband are due to go to Sousse on the 12th July. When i have checked with the travel agents regarding the currency, they advised me to take US dollars for some cash. Will we be able to change this over in Tunisia?? We will be taking travellers cheques as well, but just wondered what the exchange rate is like in Tunisia for the US dollar.
I do like to get my monies worth!!!! I hope this doesnt sound like too much of a silly question!!
Also, are there any ATM's in Sousse??
Many thanks, SunnyEssex. xx
Hi went to pek last year and we took stirling it is much easier than cheques, don`t know why they suggested dollars there were atms in pek so i would imagine other resorts have them but they do often break down so don`t rely on them, i would take stirling, and only cash a small amount near the end of the holiday as you cannot bring tunisian money out of the country with it being a closed currency.
Hi ali47,
I really can't think why you were advised to take dollars. Sterling or even Euros are much easier and can be changed in any bank or at the hotel. Sousse is awash with ATMs. I always take a bit of sterling to change at the airport when I get there then use debit or credit cards to get cash as I need it. I've never bothered with travellers cheques.
Hi Sunnyessex - I'm with Aslemma there. There is no reason what-so-ever to change your money into dollars and then dinars. Sterling is accepted at the bureau de charge in all the hotels and banks - also at the machines where you feed in the sterling notes and receive dinars in exchange. As Aslemma says, there are ATM's all over the place and if you take one of the no charge cards, using them is your best option. Do remember however, that occasionally there is a bit of a blip on the system, so keep some cash back just in case this happens. I think that travellers cheques are considered an unnecessary expense now-a-days. (Not MY decision I hasten to add!) You are going to love Tunisia!! Jenny
