Like many have mentioned i have used avon's Skin So Soft in the past but the original not required woodland as advised in another thread.
The best thing i ever taken though was a course of antihistamines i was on. Didnt catch sight of one of the little things whole holiday.
I've bought some Avon woodland fresh for our holiday, I sprayed one squirt on to my arm to see what it smelt like and the smell nearly bowled me over. Its really not nice and very strong.
I would imagine it will keep not only the mozzies away but other guests too
I don't want to be plastered in it all day too.
i'm going to cuba in early april, and i was wondering if anyone has knowledge of the mossie situation at this time of year...any tips or hints would be gratefully recieved. many thanks
I went to cuba last year, and the hotel I went to (Sol Cayo Guillermo) along with the neighbouring hotels are right on swamp land, therefore, there is a serious mozzy problem.
I took plenty of deet. The best stuff I can reccomend though is:
Calypso, aftersun with insect repellant, 500ml £3, Matalan
Tee tree oil, I got a small bottle of the pure stuff, and mixed 5 drops with 1/2 a squirty bottle of water, then sprayed on after a shower, or put a few drops in the bath, if you put it in the bath, it also takes the itch out of peely sunburn! And it doesn't smell as bad as deet. Mine cost 99p from Home Bargains, there isn't much in the bottle, but I use 2 drops every other night in my bath, and 1 bottle kept me going for 12 months!
There is also the sun lotion with insect repellant, the one from boots is good, it smells nice too, but it can be pricy, I've never been bitten during the day!
PS: My brother has travelled all over the world, he was in the raf, and he said tonic water keeps mozzies away better than anything! It tastes horrible though!
Avon do a great dry oil body spray. It is in the Skin so Soft range and it is the Soft & fresh fragrance. It is not advertised as mosi repellent but use this after your shower and for some reason it works. My daughter and I suffer badly from mosi bites never my husband or sons and we tried this after being told about it and we have been bite free on our hols since.
What is the best repellent for sand flies
You can probably get bitten any time-just less likely in the winter months
for eg-we were there 3 weeks ago and didn't get bitten at all-but there was still things flying around-just less of them-and of course hwere you go is also significant.
Hello. Which essential oil is best for mosquito repellant? I am bitten badly every time I go away, and really could do without having itchy/red splothches all over my legs this season.
Citronella oil is best. Yes sss is fab, as it has citronella in it. I normally use sss and then add even more citronella oil, they daren't come near me!
Scottishmum, how much citronella essential oil do you put in your SSS? I was thinking of buying both, but don't want to overdo it on the Citronella in the SSS bottle!
Yous do not need to put citronella in SSS as it workd brilliantly on its own. The fragrance you need of SSS is now called soft and sensual - it was known as woodland fresh but avon has changed its name
Rgds
Thanks Jackie! I thought it was the "Soft and Fresh" fragrance though, in a green bottle?
The green bottle used to be called "Woodland Fresh", they have now changed it to "soft & sensual" in a pink bottle but it is exactly the same product
I also have a small spray bottle about two inches tall, I bought from Boots which I put in 8 drops of Citronella and about inch and half of water and spray my ankles backs of arms and back of my kneck, I keep it in my bag when I go out at night.
Last year in Rhodes everyone else had loads of bites but thankfully I managed not to get a single one. Some poor people were disfigured by the bites on face and hands.
I am Olu Deniz 24 April 2006 and am hoping I can avoid being bitten.
Can anyone tell me which is the best to get from there for adults and kids please ?
(I know its probably in this thread somewhere but I've just got in from work and I don't feel like trawling through loads of pages now )
Thanks
i always get bitten really badly the best thing for me and my family has been malibu aftersun with insect repellent in it i can normally get it in woolworths buy one get one free about may time onwards but havent seen any yet this year it costs about £5.00 for a big bottle good luck
I have heard that taking Vit B compound prevents you getting bitten by mozzies, but how long do you take them before going and what strength?
Kilda - my hubby takes 100mg of Vitamin B1 (Thiamine), 1 daily for 2-3 months before our hols. He's done this the last 3 years and no longer gets pestered by the little devils. They cost 3.99 from health food shops.
