Thanks Sam, I'll order some more.

You can get it on ebay, from John Lewis and most outdoor shops. It is pricey at £8-9 but you only need 1 bottle per couple per fortnight. We still came back with half a bottle in each. Make sure it's the extra strong one as they do a 50% deet one and I don't know the efficiency of that one.

Hi, yes, I noticed the lifesystems insect repellent 95% deet I think in 'sportsworld direct' in the outdoor section and it was only £4.99. I'm definately going to get this for next years hols as I am a mozzy magnet !
also you can try Jungle Formula Tropical Strength 50% deet, as i'm sure this would be fine for Jamaica. We use this for Goa and Turkey every year and have never been bitten once yet using this. My hubby is a mozzie magnet too.
The 50% deet is fine for all tropical and caribbean countries.
And that's despite eating Marmite, dousing myself in the Avon SSS and almost everything else I can think of. Mind you, I'm usually the only one in the family who gets bitten (even the midges here in Scotland feast on me!), but this time, my husband and two children also suffered quite badly.
No idea what to try next...any suggestions?
i reccomend you do not use smelly products eg perfume body sprays scented moisturisers as this attracts them. they hate anything lemony or tea tree so trying getting toiletries with those in. i also used to buy citronella incense sticks for our room and balcony/terrace to keep them away. it always seems to be at night when they get you aswell the little blighters!
This goes back to my theory about why some people get bitten and others don't, it's all about your blood type
Thankfully AB Neg for me.....and rarely ever been bitten
hubby is o and does get bitten, i am A and dont
I am A and get bitten to death, so that theory doesn't hold.
They did a brilliant experiment which proved the theory by putting various blood type peoples arm's up to the elbow into a perspex box with mossies to see what happened They also tested various remedies and over the counter repellants to test them too.
I used to get bitten so badly and once I was hospitalised. My skin reaction was like large red grapes hanging from my legs absolutely disgusting. However I was given a great tip and told to by Reimans overnight mosquitex and I have never been bitten since. Its expensive but worth every penny
I'm the same as you (A neg) and I swear those blasted mozzies hold street parties
when I arrive! I usually get eaten alive!:(
(Didn't last year though - for the first time EVER - thanks to Avon SSS dry oil spray! )
Has anyone tried repel 55 and if they have does it go on skin or clothes?
Not heard of repel 55, but don't the instructions say where to put it? You usually put insect repellant on exposed areas of skin.
just a thought....
Hi Juby5. Got to agree with that advice. I have tried all 3 and none worked for me. I think this holiday I'll try Reimans as suggested by Bigmamtam to see if I have any luck with that along with antihistimine to save having to go to the doc for injections when I get bitten. I wonder if Reimans smells? I would hate to go out in the evening all dolled up and then leave an awful pong behind
My hubby and I are both A pos and he has never ever had a bite.I get bitten badly, that was until I discovered Sinkov in Turkey 15 years ago.I now stock up on it and use it everywhere. Its only £1 a bottle and available in nearly every shop.
