Juby if you haven't tried them give the vitamin b1 a go , you need to take them at least 2 weeks before departure and throughout your holiday , people were getting loads of bites when I was in corfu (including my hubby who NEVER gets bitten) and I just got one bite at the very end snd I think that was because I stopped taking them when I went on holiday and the effect wore off
I got mine in Holland and Barrett

i used the avon SSS spray last year and didnt get bit as much as i normally do but a few still got me, ive just bought some of the wrist band thingies from asda, has anyone used these before? I also take vit B1 and garlic capsules and shower in lemon gel stuff but need to try anything and everything as they just love me
Off to Kenya in 4 weeks . In Med we use Mosquito Milk which is 20% deet & has always worked even for me who before we dscovered Mos Milk was always bitten. Would this be ok for Kenya or would we be better using a higher deet content? I have got plenty of Avon SSS(well I am an Avon Lady!!!) as well.
Thinking of going to Cuba next May but have read that the mozzies are usually really bad then, I always suffer reactions to the bites so take anti histamines before going, this year in Turkey I used the Avon sss dry oil and it seemed to work, though I did get 5 bites on arms but think this was before I had put the avon sss on. Does anyone know if the Avon works in the Carribean? Any other advice about mozzies in Cuba during May/June?
Youve really gone to town with Avon - but, prevention is always better than cure! I dont think they'll want to come anywhere near you, which is the whole idea. Let us know how you got on wont you?
If you really cant stand Marmite, like they say, you either love it or hate it, Vit B1 tabs will do the job but you need to take them a couple of weeks before and throughout your holiday. The marmite, vitb1, garlic only works if you exude it through your pores. Some people dont which is why it doesnt work for them. BTW - its not "smellable" to humans - only insects so dont think you smell of marmite and garlic
Stupid me, I was only taking the wrong Vitamin B tablets wasn't I? (compound instead of B1)
No wonder the little boogers used to await my arrival with glee!
(I swear to God they had welcome parties in my honour! )
I eat Garlic every night while I'm away. My hubby hates the smell of it, but he never complains, so it
must be as you say, that I don't exude it through my pores.
I really can't stomach marmite (gross!) so I'll buy myself some Vit B1, and armed with all the SSS,
I should be alright.
Of course I'll let you all know how I go, but I've still got aaaaaages till my hols (just under 10 weeks )
so you will all probably have been and come back by then - you lucky peeps.
I've got some SSS on ebay watch (three bottles for under a tenner including postage) and I'm off to buy B1 tabs tomorrow so I'll let you know if they work when I get back from Turkey on the 22nd!
i've been to Cuba in May and the mozzies where the worst I have ever known. I used the extra strength DEET based sprays and was still getting lots of bites. I then switched to Ben's 100 which is 95% DEET and didn't pick up another bite. there is no way on earth I would rely on just the Avon SSS. I friend went for a forest walk the day before we went home and forgot to spray herself and came back with over 20 bites.
Get the strongest stuff you can.
It's possible to buy B1 patches on ebay.Look under "Insect repellent". I'm currently taking B1 tablets and they taste awful! They need to be swallowed quickly!

What would you advise for kids to use in Cuba as our youngest will be 10 next year but suffers with eczema so I have to be careful what I put on his skin and is deet safe for kids?
I used this is the Maldives last year when i was pregnant and not able to use a DEET based spray - it worked brilliantly and I didn't get a single bite.
I pretty sure the VitB compound would have been OK as Marmite contains B1 and B12. You do need to take them two weeks before you go away and whilst you are away though. Everyone should take Vit B anyway, its very necessary in our diet. If you dont necessarily want to eat garlic you could always take garlic capsules and I understand garlic (in tabs or eaten) needs to be taken on a daily basis for about two weeks before you go as well. Blimey - you'll be rattling around Hope they work but the SSS worked really well, for me anyway, just make sure its the green one! Had a couple of one week hols this year already but am away again in late September so let me know how you get on. Karen
The garlic capsules (odourless) need to be taken for about 2 weeks before you go on holiday and EVERY day whilst there.
Thank you cynical is my middle name, I have just realised I actually have some of that in my bedroom cupboard! Had it for ages though so it is prob out of date, but glad to know it worked for you in the Maldives, I will try that for my son
Hi Karen! Will do!
True or False mozzies hate Marmite
Going in August so need the best Mozzie Repelant.
All ideas welcome
Many Thanks
ChrisseyJ
I've used the Jungle Formula spray available from most shops past 3 years in Rhodes during August and i aint been bitten once(touch wood).Seen other people in our company get eaten alive by the bliters so its doing something right.

Hi all
I think it's B1 but it's tough to find that on it's own so I'm taking double amounts of B compound (which includes 100% rda of B1 along with all the other Bs) as well as packing three bottles of SSS as aftersun.
