Do they?
so, given that thailand can be a malarial region
Hi Twiggy,
I've been to Thailand and used the Avon SSS in the past, however I wouldn't trust it for Thailand. As you rightly state it's a malarial area and I personally wouldn't trust the SSS to be up to the job I'm afraid.
We used Jungle Formula extra strength in both Thailand & Sri Lanka and found it to be absolutely excellent on both occasions, you can spray your clothes with this as well as your skin and it comes in plenty of formats, spray, cream etc. If you take a look on the Lonely Planet website the Jungle Formula XS is without doubt the most recommended by backpackers on the site
thanks Miss_Chief1 - i'll check that stuff out as well
Hi Twiggy - Miss_Chief! is right - I wouldnt trust AVON SSS for Thailand either. Ive never been bitten over there but have always used Jungle Formula or any mozzie repellent that has a high DEET content. We dont take anti-malaria tablets either as the side effects are gross and fortunately, we've always been OK. Some may say this is foolhardy but its up to the individual whether they want to take the risk or not. However, if you use the right mozzie repellent and you dont get bitten, you wont get malaria! Easy really. Have a great time - its one of my favourite places
in resort when your on your hols cheaper awell
Only 1 tiny bite for me, and I'm putting it down to taking Brewers Yeast for a month before I went.
No bites for anyone at our hotel (Petra Mare, Ierapetra, Crete) There just didn't seem to be any mossies around at all It was very windy for most of the two weeks, so I think they must have all blown away!Helen T wrote:Only 1 tiny bite for me, and I'm putting it down to taking Brewers Yeast for a month before I went.
I took sprays, plug-ins and bite ointments with me and never used any of them - they stayed in a carrier bag in the suitcase for the whole two weeks.
However, there was one family who insisted on covering themselves in Jungle Formula spray whilst sitting in the bar area in the evening, right next to the snack bar and spraying while people were eating Please, please, if you're going to use these products, have some consideration for others and spray yourself in your hotel room before going out
They sprayed themselves in the bar???
Have just read in today's Daily Mail that it's been proved that vitamin B does not keep the mossies away. I am very disappointed as I have just started taking them in the hope that I could maybe escape the wee blighters this holiday. Have tried the garlic capsules and the Skin so Soft and still got eaten alive. Must try the mosquito milk now , it's my only hope Any more suggestions?
i bought some mossie repellant bands £2.50 for 2 in asda, i also showered in original source lemon shower gel and never got bit, normally im a snack factory for mossies so was well chuffed and will definately buy these again
Thanks for the tips. Lancslass. Must try to get the lemon shower gel now. Will try anything to escape the trip to the doc during my holidays.
Well you all know I got the Avon SSS dry oil spray thingie...but I also bought the SSS shower gel in the same fragrance
hi all,of to corfu 19th sept, heard some terrible stories about them there,we have never suffered anywere we been before but getting worried now.can anyone advise me as to what to use as i have askin condition so i have to be careful what i put on my skin,is there any tablets or anything that i could start taking now maybe, any help would be great please.
I swear by Brewers Yeast. Apparently it alters the smell and costituency of your sweat, and repels them. I only had 1 tiny one that went the following day in Crete this year.
Well after searching high and low for my mozzie machine tablets and buying sprays to smother myself and kids in, I've just got back from Menorca and there wasn't a mozzie in sight. I've never known that before. Will save the stuff I bought for next year
Nothing like a decent sized, well aimed flip flop to despatch the blighters....................
I have just returned from Corfu where the mozzies are carnivorous. I often say that they wait in the airport for me and line up to take bites as I get off the plane. This year I used garlic capsules (started 2 weeks before my jollies) skin so soft shower gel and spray oil and used Boots' extra strength repellant. I didn't use any perfume and didn't wear blue. I only suffered one bite and it didn't swell up and blister like usual. I had to take an antihistamine but only for a couple of days. I may have been rattling with pills but it stopped my jollies being spoilt. Unfortunately there must have been a midge waiting at Newcastel airport cos when we got back be got bitten there, even my husband who never gets bit, Geordie midges must be tough to get through all that protection.
hi all, incase anyone may be interested,as i have a skin condition i asked my doc what he recomended for these little buggers and he said his wife suffers every where they go and he told me to get from ellis brighams website or visit the shop there LIFESYSTEMS MOS REPELLENT its the best ever and works everytime, the little blighters dont come near and if they try to they get killed off apparantly.it contains deet and that is the magical formula.i looked in boots etc in town and nowhere stocks anything like ellis brighams products.beware some shops sell products that contain a certain amount of deet but nowhere near enough to protect you like there products do.they do different strengths to be able to use on children etc.
As you know, the mozzies in the Algarve usually throw a party when I arrive there - with me as the main attraction.
But this year, I bought the Avon SSS green everything - show gel, body lotion and dry oil spray.
Once I began using them I did not get ONE bite!
(In between landing at the aiport, getting to the apartment and unpacking I got three bites! )
Once the unpacking was done, I had a shower and began using all the SSS stuff.
I was not bitten again once in two weeks- result!
