What do the wristbands do

They are bands that have been impregnated with either aromatherapy oils or an insect repellant and the warmth from your body will make them slowly release a vapour.

6.99 at boots (airport) for 4 bands, 2 for the wrists and two for the ankles....think they last for 2 weeks.

Thanks for the info Sanji. :)

(Don't fancy walking round with 4 wristbands on though - especially if my ankles swell in the heat which they
sometimes do. Ok....I know....too much information.... :rofl )

Hi all!

I feel like I've asked every question regarding mozzie remedies but I forgot one!
I am planning on trying B1 and garlic capsules (probably won't work but who know's?).I know they have to be taken 2-3 weeks before departure but what I forgot to ask is..........Do they still have to be taken EVERY day whilst on holiday?
Many thanks for any info given.

Hi Diane.

Many thanks for the quick reply.
I'm not too bad with mozzies but it's my wife who always seems to act like a "four course meal"!
As we are going to the Dominican Republic this year, I thought we'd give everything a go just in case.
All the best for now and the future.

David

PS: Only 20 sleeps to go! :)

I can recommend the B1 , in previous years I have had problems with getting mossie bites.I took the B1 for 2 weeks before we went to Corfu where they have been really bad this year, I would recommend taking them throughout the holiday as I didn't and got 1 bite on my las t day so the effect had probably worn off during the week.
I bought mine from holland and barret about £2 I think for 100
My husband has never been bitten before and was bitten about 15 times , we used a plug in repellant in our room which I bought in corfu and I think that this worked as he was bitten mainly lower leg and arm and not parts covered when we were out on a night

Thought i`d recommend Off, bought in Turkey.
I swear by Avon SSS but didn`t have any this year..i thought there was some in my case but there wasn`t and i didn`t have enough time to order some.
I bought some Jungle formula spray for the rooms and used the off on our skin and no one out of the 7 of us got bitten.

arnywear.co.uk products are good for deterring mossies.I have the small square which I put on my pillow and if the mossies are out in force I fold it around my wrist. SinKov from Turkey is the best repellent I have used and I stock up on it when I am there for family and friends.

Hi

Has anyone used the Insect Repellent Patches called Omezone. It is a repellent patch contains 75 mg of Thiamine; we seemingly only need 2mg per day so the excess Thiamine is expelled through the skin. It claims that biting insects and in particular mosquito's and midge's dislike the smell of Thiamine. I have seen lots of people recommending the B1 vitamin tablets but we leave in 1 week so will not have enough time for that, it also claims that these patches are more effective and only need to be put on 2 hours before exposure and last up to 36 hours. They seem to be quite expensive in comparison to the tablets but I don't care as long as they work. I don't want to use DEET because my son has eczema and also he is asthmatic. I would be grateful for anyones comments.

Hi All.

Does anyone have any idea if citronella candles are any good for keeping mosquitoes at bay?
I will still be using all the usual "potions & lotions" but I was just wondering if they would work when sitting outside on the balcony at night.
Many thanks for any info given.

I've heard the candles do work but haven't tried them myself

Cheers crezza

I only ask as I saw some citronella tealights in Morrisons today (£1.49 for 30 or two packs for £2.50) and I was wondering if they would be any good.Anything that we can try to keep the little pests away the better.I know they work with midges but not too sure about their cousins!

There were certainly mossies in Turkey in May as I was bitten to death and still have a scar on my leg 10 years later.

AVON SSS (Green) worked brilliantly for me last week. I never used to get bitten, only the last couple of years and they loved me! Determined not to get bitten ever again, I thought I would try the Avon SSS and it worked a treat. Not only does the dry body oil moisturise your skin after a day sunbathing but the mozzies hate the smell. Highly recommended!

Crezza - Citronella candles work really well - I light them when on my roof terrace of an evening and we never saw any up there - they hate citronella. You can buy them just about everywhere in the UK, Asda, Sainsburys, Dunelm Mill, Cargo etc. I did see them in the Ferretera (hardware shops) in Spain and also some of the little supermarkets. Good value for money too!

I've bought the SSS dry oil spray and I'm trying it for the first time too Karen, so I'm really pleased to hear that it worked for you.

Actually I've gone the whole hog and bought the body wash, exfoliating body butter and moisturising lotion as well as the
dry oil spray!

(My way of trying to ensure those little boggers don't come within a mile of me this year! ;) )

well, I must be in a minority here, as having put on avon sss, deet 50% lotion, plug ins, garlic capsules, vinegar ( don't ask ) , drew the line at marmite ( the very thought makes me feel billious ! ) STILL got bitten to death by the enemy !!!! that was tenerife at easter, as we are off to fuengirola in 3 weeks, the thought of being eaten alive AGAIN , is a right pain, so I reckon my only defence , as i've said in a previous post , is a full body suit made out of mosquito netting !! very 'euro chic ' !!!!!!
ever hopefull for a remedy,
