Do you put on the insect repellent before or after sun cream?.

Would mixing suntan lotion with citronella be effective?.

Ive been told 'deet' isnt suitable for kids, my son has sensitive skin so what Could I use on him?.

mi$$y you can get sunlotions and aftersuns with insect repellant already built in. we also noticed boots have a lot of insect repellant products for kids! I have sensitive skin but find Malibu aftersun with insect repellant in it is fantastic and my 2 year old uses it without any reactions too.

when i was in turkey last year i took some lemon scented candles from yankee candle with me to use in the room in the evening when i got ready to go out. this deterred the mozzies. also i used a massage bar from lush called 'each peach' before i went out and that seemed to keep them away. i usually get bitten but not last year!! doing the same again this year

How does the peach bar work Ive never heard of that before?

you just rub it onto your skin. it is made of cocoa butter and it contains several essential oils. make sure you rub it in quite well or you may slide about on the chairs. it's also good for soothing your skin if you have overdone it in the sun.

This is the Lush bar HERE. I've had that one before but never thought of using it as an insect repellent. Smells good on the skin though!

i didn't think about it until i used it and could smell all the citrus oils. makes your skin really soft too

Are there any sprays you can use for when inside rooms / appartments of a night to kill mossies?
Reply
any fly sprays work but the best thing to do is to buy a plug in mossie bug plug. Asda are the cheapest in my opinion! but you can buy them in resort as we did for Cyprus as they have the 3 pin sockets like us. We use these as I cant use sprays due to asthma but the mossies literally drop like flies once the plug warms up and releases its fragrance.

We always get attacked by mossies, even in this country. So we bought the lifesystems 100 plus 2 years ago and not looked back since. It may be a little more expensive but it's well worth it. I got 2 bottles of the 100ml 95% deet and it lasted all 2 weeks for 5 of us and we still came back with some. We used it on our 6 year old and she has sensitive skin and she was fine. My sister used it on her 4 year old who is very skin sensitive and he had no problems at all.
We will use it every time from now on. It used to say you couldn't use it on skin, only on cotton but they must have a new formula now as you can use it straight onto skin.

I have just looked at this product and it says it's not suitable for children.
Apparently it was 100% Deet and that is why you were instructed to spray onto clothing material like cotton and wool, Deet will destroy synthetic materials, but they have changed the formula by reducing the Deet down to 95% and added an insecticide that deters insects from landing on your skin in the first place.

Deet may not cause skin irritation, but it's what it does when it's absorbed into the bloodstream that's the worrying thing about it, and it may cause fits and seizures in children, especially when used in high concentrations.
When products contain Deet, the concentration is greatly reduced for application on children for this reason and lifesytems make one with as little as 20% Deet, and a natural one from a derivative of the lemon eucalyptus plant for children.

Sorry, only trying to help.

Sorry Sanji. I used it on my 6 year old and she was fine. I used 1 spray into my hand and rubbed it into her exposed skin, just in the evenings. When we got back we always had showers anyway, so it was for probably no more than 5 hours of it being on the skin. The choice has to lie with the parents at the end of the day. I chose to use it as we all suffer terribly from mossie bites and the allergic reaction is unbearable.

I can't make up my mind what to use for mossie repellant this year. I always take the room plug-in which I'll take again this year but I also used to use Avon aftersun with insect repellant after a shower before a night out. Avon have stopped doing it since last year and I'm at a bit of a loss. I don't really like the idea of using a mossie repellant spray and I find the Avon Skin So Soft that's highly recommended a bit sickly. Can anybody suggest an all in one After sun or moisturiser which has repellant built in please? Thanks

lordy,

speaking of being bitten on ankles, we went to Sharm in april, on the very first night just after getting into our room, I was bitten at least 11 times on the same calf just standing on our patio chatting to neighbours for 10 mins. They have all gone now except what looks like a vampire bite (best way to describe it!!) I say this because it's 2 bites very close together, now this was 4 weeks ago tomorrow & I still have them, they have scabbed over, but are still tender to the touch & a bit red around the scab - would anyone have any ideas as to what could have done this or how to get rid?

Grateful to anyone who has a clue ( we didn't see any vampire bats so assuming it wasn't that :rofl ) !!!!

Thank you anyone.

Deb.

probably mossies I have scars all over from them! The worst I have ever had was during holidays to Greece, but I love Greece so much I just tried different repellants every year hoping one would work!! I remember the worst bite was on the back of my calf and I must have disturbed the mossy mid suck!! as the liquid ran down my calf and I had a massive red lump with a raised red trail right down my leg from behind my knee to my ankle. The rep told me to get it checked out as it looked bad. It took a few months for the red to go away!! Kavos when I was pregnant was awful they must have been able to smell my extra blood. I had to get checked out at the hospital when I came home as they thought I had an allergy I had that many bites I looked like I had chicken pox!!
