Jinty, the boots aftersun with repellent is fab, its the best one Ive used. I have told everyone who normally gets bit to use it. Its a bit wet when it first goes on but if you put it on as soon as youre out the bath its dry by the time you want to go out. Kept mine in the fridge, it felt great after a long day in the heat. :sun

Yes, I agree Boots after sun with insect repellent IS fab! - and yes keep it in the fridge - feels great! I also bought the Zapper thing from Asda - although I didn't have need to use it ! Its a tiny little yellow thing so easy to carry about with you. Glad to hear it works!

I used the Avon Woodland fresh too.
I got four bites.
Just take the vit B tabs, and the Garlic caps.
Put a plug in with the tablets in at night. You can buy them in all the shop, supermarkets for a few pounds. They do work!!!!!

Don't think this is the right forum, but can't decide which one it shlould be in!

Anyway, has anyone tried 'Calypso' After Sun Lotion with insect repellant. I paid all of £1.99 for a 500ml bottle, but am wondering if it is worth using up any of my sorry little 15kg baggage allowance for???

Cheers,
Janet

hi janet, every ones talking about skin so soft from the avon range of cosmetics sos or someother stuff called citronella but i allways find that if you take a course of garlic tablets about 3 weeks before you go that really helps to all the best jannie. :D :D :D

I eat a lot of garlic in my food (curries, chillies, spag bol, just about anything gets a little or a lot of garlic in..) mosi's don't bother me too much...

our middle daughter usually gets plagued with them and she won't eat anything spicy/exotic.. maybe there is a link ?

According to my cousin who works for the World Health Organisation there isn't anything you can take orally, spray or spread on that will stop any mossies having you IF you have certain blood types

Apparently they've done loads of research and certain blood types attract the mossies regardless........this would also help explain why one person more than another gets bitten badly or sometimes not at all.

She advised me that if in general you don't get bitten you have the non-tasty blood variety BUT you may still get bitten occasionally, howvever if you always get bitten regardless then unfortunately you have the blood type they love & there's nothing you can do except try and deter them with over the counter/shop bought repellants.

I'm one of the lucky ones and don't often get bitten, only very occasionally. My brother& I did a non-scientific test of this blood theory whilst in Mossie City otherwise know as Corfu  And we believe it's perfectly spot on.........bruv is still itching now :o

Hi Jannie

Got the Skin so Soft + the Boots - hate garlic in any shape or form! It was just because it was only £1.99 I thought it might be worth a try.

Will take it with me and post the results when I come home.

Cheers,
Janet

Sapphire, I am intrigued.

I have visited Cyprus for the last 11/12 years and have been bitten every time I went until I started using Avon SSS and not a hint of a bite since.

Maybe I would be a good guinea pig for the World Health Organisation as it certainly seems strange how they stopped biting me lol

Kath........I'll put your name down for the next round of experiments via my cous
Apparently it entails putting your forearm in an enclosed glass box where they then unleash half a dozen mossies and wait and see what happens :?

There is some major discussion about this subject on the internet and whether the finding regarding blood type are true or not. What throws a spanner in the works is the fact that "locals" wherever you go don't seem to be bothered by them........again there are many reasons for this too.
Some say it's because the meat just ain't sweet enough ! Or the skin is sooo brown it's too tough.......others say it's purely down to the garlic in their diet

Who knows.........what I do know is that Avon sss does work and it's been Avon's semi saviour (I live in the town where the only Avon factory left is....the rest of the production went to Poland several months ago  )
Several friends work there and I only pay a minimal amount for all my SSS products via the staff shop :D

Happy Hols.......1 week to go for me

Tankard..........It's called Skin So Soft, hence SSS

Try this link - http://avonshop.co.uk/avonshop/default.asp?rep_phone=&rep_email=&newdept=&s=Tradedoubler&c=Affiliate&otc=C14_oldcreative&omn_referrer=&

It's half price at the moment

The original (Woodland) is deemed to be the best but I also find the Pink one good too

Good luck

Oh blast the links you & I both posted take you to the home page as a default !

Go to the home page.......Skincare........Toiletries and SSS is listed there. They've changed the names and the Woodland is now the green bottles I think it's called Soft & Fresh now. The dry oil spray is very good.

Thanks sapphire, I'll get on to it now...

(yeah I think we both had ther same page - dry oil spray - but as you say it flicked back to the home page. Silly :x )

Just to put everyone straight about the mozzy problem...

A few years ago I was bitten really badly in Cyprus so when my husband went to the local Pharmacy to get me some cream, the Pharmacist told him that actually EVERYONE gets bitten by mosquitos - it is just that some people react more badly to the bites than others and some people don't get any reaction at all.

I can also confirm that Avon SSS oil spray really does work having used it myself this year (just got back from Ayia Napa). Didn't get any raised bites or bumps like I usually do.
