I'm trying to remember when we last went.. but I cant...

I know I charged my camera in the room but can't remeber if I took my own adapter (as it comes as part of the camera kit) or if the 2 pin of it plugged directly into the Cypriot sockerts?

We have not had a Mosquito problem this year, well not in our area, those electric plug in mossie machines are available in all supermarkets and have normal UK style three pronged fitting, you can also buy top up liquid for when it runs out, cost about three £'s do they work? well luckily we have fly screens at all windows and doors, these keep most bugs out, not a great believer in those machines personally, I find a good squirt of a bug spray, close the windows and doors, then return in ten minutes does the trick.

Normally you will not need adapters we have the same fitting for plugs and sockets as the UK, if you do need an adapter (doubtful) again they are available in all shops & supermarkets..

Just come back (boo hoo) and bitten to death! I've only got 7 bites, hubby has 20 and son has too many to count.

We have found that anything with a light attracts - come bite me
Lights attract - turning off the bug killer reduces nibbles

Smelly stuff seems to attract

Drink Whiskey - It is supposed to work

eat Garlic - Who needs friends

Hi there

I got bit when I went in June on the 1st night 6 times...after I got a Keo inside me they stayed away...I did spray myself also in the nights. I have heard that a bar of lemon zest soap to wash with also keeps them away. So i'm going buy a few bars to try for my next years holiday...only 45 weeks.

I've tried allsorts to keep the little blighters away including the well known garlic capsules but they did nothing, in fact I think I got bitten more when taking those.

I tried Vitamin B tablets as was suggested on here a few months ago and that worked a lot better. I had a couple of bites on the last couple of days and that was it.

I've started taking them now for my next holiday. I normally take tem from a month before I go and then throughout the holiday.

As I say they do seem to work better for me than all the other repellents people say about.

Going back to Paphos again at the end of September. After being there in May and having been bitten quite badly (couldn't wear anything on my feet but flipflops) I will be coming armed with Avon Skin So Soft Dry Oil Spray as it seems to be the only thing to keep mozzies at bay. Glad to hear there shouldn't be a problem in September, but I'm not taking any chances.

Can anyone tell me how bad it is in Cyprus for mozzies attacking you, I am due to go in early July and dreading being eaten alive by them. The last few holidays that I have been on have been in Spain so the temperature goes lower in the evening so I have come home un-bitten but with Cyprus being so much warmer am slightly concerned.

been to Cyprus for the last 5 years and not been bothered at all by mozzies..

and usually they like to dine off me quite liberally...

There has been a lot of water deposited on Cyprus in the last few months causing the mozzie population to expand to such a point that there was a warning in the Cyprus Mail only a couple of weeks ago.

The article refers only to Nicosia, but my wife was bitten quite badly in mid May on the one night that we forgot the plugins :( I will add that this was the first time in many many visits to Cyprus that she has been bitten at all

Article is here

I was bitten pretty well in Paphos this year. I normally don't get bitten at all and if I do I never tend to realise I have been bitten until someone says 'you've been bitten'.

However this year I had at least 30 bites and most of those were on the first day. The bites also became infected, but thankfully with sprays they calmed down a bit. I was even bitten when using an anti mozzie aftersun. In the end the best policy I found was NOT to put too many smellies on (ie. aftershave etc).

I stayed in Paphos from 20th June until 3rd June.

Hope this is of help.

As used by some of the worlds elite and special forces (no, don't laugh, it's true) Avon Skin So Soft is an excellent mozzie deterant.

Completely agree with you Mark - I would be lost without it.

Ditto, tried and tested and great for river fishing to keep the little buggers at bay

Can we buy those plug ins over there as I can't fond any with a three pin plug, just two pin. Staying at Rising Star so hopefully the Yiannis supermarket will stock them.

That sounds so dumb, of course you must be able to get them over there. 8) Senior moment
