If you stay on the Valtos beach side of Parga, you can have the best of both worlds. A quiet place to stay with a handful of tavernas and the main town with more going on (but by no means rowdy), half an hours walk or a short water taxi ride away. We realy enjoyed our stay and we don't like noisy places with discos either. It's a lovely place to relax and with some interesting places to explore if you hire a car.
If you realy want to go somewhere quiet try Finikounda or Yialova on the Peloponese.
I have been to Kefalonia (Sami, Lassi) and Stoupa. Kefalonia was my favourite Greek destination until I visited Parga. I doubt you will come across the discos unless you are looking for them.
Parga is not a rowdy disco, 18-30, Mcdonalds, English pub style resort (thankfully) I am sure if you went you would love it
can anyone give me some info on nidri im going there in may and after reading several posts on this site i am a little concerned ,it doesn't seem to popular. many thanks
Don't want discos or Brit pubs either.
Also when is a good time to go with children - not too hot or humid?
Which agents or sites can I book with and if you have any specific recomendations for accomodation that would be great.
Many thanks
I think any of these 3 would fit the bill. In terms of quietness, Finikounda is quietest, then Stoupa, then Parga. In Parga I personally prefer the Valtos beach side. Avoid late June to end of August for the hottest weather. For lots more information on Stoupa see:
Kosmar do all of these resorts from a wide choice of airports at reasonable prices!
As you will possibly be pushing a buggy with the 2 yo I would warn you that Parga is pretty steep in places and you may wish to take this into account. We went with a 2 yo and it was very hard work when it was hot. I don't know about the other places, perhaps others could advise but I thought you may wish to take this information into account.
I would agree with Magster that Parga is pretty steep in places and in the hottest period it can be hard work. However, the beaches are safe for very small children and there are pools that can be used too. As in most of Greece the Pargians are very family orientated and you know that you children will be safe and looked after.Within days the greeks can identify which child is with which family so they can be easily reunited if the worst happens. Friends of ours have taken their two year old and younger tp Parga and had a great time, as did my step daughter with her two year old son
friendly beach, no 'yobs', mainly couples & families. Various excursions
available. We had a great boat trip to 3 islands, shoals of dolphins swimming alongside the boat. Lovely sunsets & very pretty view over the water at night from the restaurants on the beach ( yes the tables & chairs are actually on the beach). We stayed at the Hotel Esperia by the widest part of the beach. Very nice, & friendly helpful staff.
Thanks for all your replies. We have now booked for Parga in June and we are on the Valtos side of things.
Have a great time.... I am sure you will...but take a light jacket or sweater for the evenings in June...It can get a little cool at that time of year
We are holidaying in Parga for 2 weeks in July staying at the Bacoli Studios. The last 2 years we have been to Kefalos on Kos (nice breeze). Any comparisons? We would appreciate any info to help us enjoy our stay. Where can we get a good map of the area for sightseeing & beach finding?
We were in Parga at the end of June in 2004, staying at the Valtos beach side. We hired a car and got out and about - there are plenty of places to explore - my trip report is about half way down the page at the following link and might give you some ideas:

ps
Not sure if THIS is where you are staying ? but even if it isn't if you click on the sites link you will get a few ideas for some sightseeing and trips.
Has anyone stayed at either the Valtos Beach Hotel, or Rezi Hotel and Studios in Parga - I'm considering either for next June, so any info welcome.
Alternatively what other hotels/studios would you recommend? It's for out honeymoon so budget isn't number one concern this year.
Thanks
Cejay
http://www.parga.com you will get all the answers you need on there.
Try On the Parga side is the old town which is full of little shops mostly catering for tourists and then the waterfront area has bars and tavernas and beach/gift shops. There is a harbour area, a nice beach and then a smaller beach. I think the second hotel you mentioned is maybe behind the two beaches.
The resort has loads of character, no karaoke, and not much in the way of Sky sports and English breakfasts. It caters more for the Greeks and Italians. I think you will have a fantastic time. Some reviews of the hotels you mentioned are on http://www.holidays-uncovered.co.uk.
Enjoy
