Discussions regarding holidays in Turkey.
you are allowed 10 litres per person leaving uk ,we have flown 4 times to turkey this year already and each time when buying spirits at uk airports ,eg leeds bradford, newcastle and durham tees valley, the assistant in the duty free has told us what our allowence is,so we have taken the full 20 litres between the 2 of us,to help our friends out, this time when we fly next week we will be empty handed  as they have enough  flying back from dalaman you are allowed only 1 litre and a 200 carton of cigs,i cant understand people who buy the 1000 cartons thinking that because the staff in dalaman told them it is ok ,that they will be allowed them ,just take a look as you pass through customs back in uk how many of these 1000 packs you see  the allowance in and out of turkey is 200 cigs per person,

We are off to turkey for the first time in late september...

I have looked on the customs site to try and establish what tobbaco/ciggys we can fetch back...but I just cannot get my head around it..

Please could someone enlighten me on the following:

There are two adults...how many cigarettes can we fetch back into this country?
Is there a separate allowance for tobacco?
If we fetch cigs back can we then buy more at the airport?

sorry if I seem dumb, please be kind :D

You can take as many cigs into Turkey as you like. We usually take in 1000 each. Officially you can only bring back 200 cigs each adult. There is a thread somewhere re this. You can't bring in 200 cigs plus tobbaco, it's either or.

200 cigarettes; or 50 cigars; or 250g of tobacco
[not 200 fags and 250gms of tobacco]

2 litres of red or white table wine table wine
[not sparkling wine or raki]

1 litre of spirits or liqueurs over 22%abv or 2 litres sparkling wine or port or sherry and
[1lt bottle of any of these NOT one of each]

£145 worth jewelry OR other goods including gifts and souvenirs

this is per Adult 18 yrs or older holding a full UK passport

exceed these limits and get caught be prepared to pay the excessive UK duty

is this simple enough

Don't believe what they tell you at Dalaman.

100% Correct Kalkanite, At the duty free in Dalaman departure Lounge they will tell you that you can take 9x200 packs of cigs, But if your caught in customs in Uk with them you will have to pay full Uk duty or give them up at Customs.

Beware at Dalaman i was not sure if it was 200 or 400 cigarettes to bring back so i asked one of the duty free shop workers they told me 400, if it was not for a couple who over heard and told me it wasnt it was only 200 then i would have bought the 400.

Landing at Newcastle a few years back, a lady and her friend had 3 big 1000 boxes of cigs between them. As we waited for our baggage to come i asked her if she was going to put them out of view. She had no idea she shouldn`t have had them and said the man at Dalaman had told her it was fine
She didn`t hide them she left them in full view and said if customs noticed she would just hand them over. They didn`t even look at her and she got them through.

I always bring back a few sleeves more that i should. I buy 1000 when i land plus 400 on the plane going, whatever i dont smoke while on hol goes in my case then i buy the legal amount on the plane coming home.
I wouldn`t push my luck and bring back loads because at the end of the day its my own fault if i get stopped but a few sleeves is worth the risk.

cheers

any ideas on in the resort ? or roughly the same ?

Any Golden virginai Tobaco you buy in the Resort will definately be Fake so steer well clear of it, The markets sell them for 5x50gram Pouches for £10 but be warned the Tobaco is like sand it's very very dry and nothing like the real thing, Should you go to Mugla market on a Tuesday you can buy Fresh Turkish Tobaco very simmilar to G/virginia for £4 for a Kilo.

youre a star rwb , cheers

i may get them the fake stuff , they wont ask us again !

Honestly Danny, Spend the extra £1 per pouch at the Airport for the tobacco, If someone took me back the stuff from the Market I would not be amused even if I got it for Nothing.

we are with onur air rwb , would it be ok to buy it on the plane ?
Reply
Yes, 5x50 Gram Pouches for 20 euro, Oh and take euro's to pay for it also, As you wont get a good rate for sterling on the Plane, Tip go to a credit union in your home town to get the Euro's that way you dont get charged, If your not in one Join one it's easy enough.
