Don't know if this helps you any, but I was told by somebody I met on holiday a few years ago that if you take Piriton or any other anti histamin (not sure how to spell it) then if you are unlucky enough to get bitten you will not have a reaction to the bite.

Normally if I get bitten it goes all red and itchy and drives me crazy but I just got back from Protaras last week  and tried it then when I got bitten (I think it was a mosquito, I never saw any, sneaky little so and so) and it took the itch away almost immediately and I was not bothered by the bite again.

Obviously this may not suit everyone as with all medicines you should be careful, but worth a try maybe (I am lazy and would rather take one pill a day that spend ages spraying repelent all the time).

Been to Cyprus twice (this will be the third time..tick tick tick..) and not had any trouble with mozzies around Protaras....

I do take vitamin B tablets and I eat garlic like its going out of fashion.. so maybe thats why.. but other around me who dont do things like this also had no trouble at all...

Maybe your bite was something like a sandfly?..

In Corfu my better half was bitten on her hand and it looked like a marigold that you'd blown up.. she got anti hystamines and they worked a treat but they don't stop you getting bitten just stop you reacting badly to it.

Went to Cyprus with several bites......via barbie in my garden, got none in Cyprus, but have had several bad ones recently in UK......the antihistamine does help with the irration, I always take them with me just incase..........but as for Piriton, they are the old type of antihistamine, and can make you drowsy, so I'd take them at night, cause thats when mine start to act up with the bedding etc.........as for me have had 2 real nasty ones.......even the Avon spray didn't worked...........I think the wet weather here in UK has made them bad this year.

Just got back yesterday, stayed at Aphrodite Hills near Paphos, for 2 weeks and the only mozzie I saw was during our usual midnight 4 hour delay wait at Paphos airport

Hi, just got back (sob, sob, sob) :bawl after yet another fantastic holiday in Pafos (and great 'cooler weather'!)

No problems with mozzies at all and they love me usually --- I did make sure I used my usual 'Mosquito Milk' though, but hubby never bothered and he was fine.

Sorry - I was thinking back to the mid 40s they had before we travelled!

Must admit, it was cooler this year than we've known it in August since 2001 when we have visited. We saw clouds ! Clouds! We are just soooooo pleased that we missed the heat wave they had had before we got there and it was only a mild spell for Pafos!

if there were mozzies in protaras they kept a very low profile

its common house flys that are the nuiscance, every time theres food about they appear and bug you they never bothered with the food and drink

I got back from Cyprus about 3 weeks ago and the only place i got bite s(which is very unsual) is i had about 3 bites on my elbow my daughter got 2 on her ankle but my younger daughter dont seem to get a bite any time we go away and we been going to cyprus all her life my mum who now lives out there in May when i went over with my 2 daughters counted 18 bites around her ankle my dad and my daughter then had to go to the chemist over there to get her some cream , spray & tablets which worked a treat! one thing that my dad did put on my daughter while we were there in august was the gel out of and Alovira Plant .. ( if thats the correct spelling? ) and it was amazing aparently it works for sun burn cuts & mozzi bites ( sorry if everyone new that and im just a bit slow ! which is very like me ! ) so if anyone had any trouble then get the alovira !

I got back from Pernera last night and got bitten on the last couple of days although we had been there 2 weeks. It had rained on one of the days and the bites came after that! don't know if that had anything to do with it.

Stayed in Paphos 21st - 28th October and got 4 bites, only seemed to happen when around the harbour area of an evening though. Sat out in hotel gardens (Imperial Beach) during th evening to watch shows and never got bitten. Resorted to Boots mozzie wipes in the end (silver packet).
