My understanding is that through baggage arrangements are only when using Jet Airways and maybe one other (Indian Airlines?). All the others involve collecting baggage at Mumbai and taking it yourself between the terminals.
They are now using coaches on most of the inter-terminal bus services so there is a now a place to carry the baggage.

Has anyone flown on Indian airlines before? We're flying with virgin then transferring at Bombay to Indian airlines, just realised we'll have no money to buy drinks with at the airport - just wondering if anyone knows if the drinks are free with Indian airlines or if we'll have to last out til we get to Goa to get a drink, coming back could turn out to be more expensive than our whole trip to Goa going by the prices of drinks at Bombay airport - we have 6 hours to kill in between our flight
Also is there anywhere near Bombay airport or is it like UK airports - completely in the middle of nowhere! Just wondering with 6 hours to kill whether it's worth leaving the airport for an hour or so

We flew with them yesterday and they give you a soft drink, a meal and water. They give out water on demand during the flight. It is only an hour so it is fine.

With internal check in of only an hour you could go to a hotel nearby but the prices are high or get a taxi to take you on a tour and see a few sights.

Coming back you could put some drinks in your hold luggage and get them out before you check in again!

Thanks - with Indian airlines do we have to collect our cases back at Bombay on the return journey? I read somewhere that with some airlines it's checked in all the way thro! We would def have time for a 2 hour trip round Bombay in a taxi - sounds tempting

Yes, you do have to collect your luggage with Indian.

back to dabolim, can any one tell me if you are x rayed (luggage that is) before leaving the airport? a couple of times in india this has happened, once in goa i think and was slammed for very expensive duty on a couple of bottles of wine, whiskey and tobbacco that members of our party had bought at u.k. airport.if this is still going on (though it wasnt on my last visit)i wont bother to buy any duty free on the way in.,but if not we do like to bring a bottle of something to have a nip of in the room and my son likes to have his rolling tobacco., which i have found is a bit hit and miss when purchased in goa.

i would not bother with buying spirits at duty free as vodka and rum is soo cheap in the supermarkets in goa,,wine would be the only drink i would buy at the airport..
i brought 2 bottles for 15 quid and smirnoff was 4 pound in the shops in goa-depends what you drink???old monk rum is £1.10 a bottle

old monk really that cheap? surely you cant mean a full 70cl bottle. yes point taken about the cheapness of local spirits, which are very reasonable but i was thinking more of jack daniels or single malt which we only usually tend to buy during holidays and high days at home.do you happen to know if either ginger ale or tonic water is available?

I have used Makemytrip.com, this is the second time I will of used them, there has been problems booking with Indian travel firms without an Indian credit card, but we persevered and arranged it through thier live chat,

The Mumbai Hotel trick is still going on.

On saturday morning we met a UK couple at the Domestic Terminal in Mumbai who had just been taken-in by the hotel trick. This has been mentioned here before but it still is going on.
On arrival by BA in Mumbai this couple didn't notice the sign and passageway to the domestic transfer bus just after customs. They went straight on and ended up in the street outside. They were soon approached by a man telling them there is no transfer bus and that the airline will accomodate them in a hotel to wait for their flight. They were taken off to an hotel and charged 6,000 rupees in the process.

We had a similar hotel trick - we basically had 4 hours to spare in Bombay and wanted a hotel to dump our cases at, a guy approached us at the airport and said there was a hotel a 10 min drive away in the centre of Bombay and they would take us there & back and assured us we'd have time to look around, split between 4 of us it didnt seem too bad a deal as the alternative was to wait around for 4 hours at the airport. it took us an hour to get to the hotel that turned out to be in probably the equivalent to hackney in London, we just told them straight that they'd lied to us and we didnt have time to leave our bags there so werent paying. We then grabbed our cases out the boot and had a bit of a scuffle with the hotel manager trying to get them back and at the same time trying to hail down a taxi, we then had a huge crowd stop and watch like we had just landed from outerspace, we didnt pay the first taxi a rupee for the ride or the hotel and jsut paid out 200 rupees to another taxi to get us back to the airport - we saw the funny side after and enough of Bombay to stick to direct flights to goa in future, guess we could say it was an 'experience' though and apart from spending the whole journey back worrying our cases were about to fall out the boot or off the roof any minute we saw a part of Bombay we'd def be happy never to see again lol!!

Super Kingfisher- On check in we were told of a 40 min delay I advised that we had an Emirates flight to catch, 7. PM. Check in staff arranged front row seats for us and marked our luggage 'quick' 4. PM aircraft arrived from Bombay and we advised desk of situation and the possibility of missing the 7.PM flight.
They arranged for us to be met at Bombay by a ground staff rep who ushered us to the baggage pick up where our luggage was already off the carousel and being wheeled to a waiting taxi which drove us to the international airport. Emirates were advised of our late arrival and kept the gate open. The service was superb.
