I have flights booked with Onur Air booked through Aegean Flights, but have not received any request or notification of surcharges. Do they just take this money from your credit card without telling you? I'm a bit concerned as if they sent a letter which I didn't receive, they could sell my flights.

We are going on July 16th.

Emre, that does sound unusual and no I don't think they would take the payment without informing you first. Check your booking online on the Aegean Flights website. You need your booking reference. Let us know how you get on! :tup

I'm at work at the moment and don't have my booking reference so I rang Aegean Flights. Seemingly they sent out a letter on 12th May requesting the surcharges which I haven't received so it's a good job I rang as there's £54 outstanding.

I did query the fact that their website stated no surcharges if booked before 31st January but I got the "that only applies to bookings made between 7th and 31st January" line. Looks like I'll have to pay it then which is no hardship really as it still means I only paid £80 each for the flights.

Thank goodness you phoned Emre!

I would have paid it in the end up too as I do understand why they are charging it, but then again i wasn't going to if I didn't have to! :D

I was thinking along the same lines Scottishmum, but I've just paid up this morning. I wouldn't want to risk losing my flights for the sake of £54.

Hi all,

I booked flights through Tarvel Republic to Turkey In mid July.

I received a letter asking for an additional £20.00 per person (x 5 of us)

Im confused: are ATOL and ABTA the same thing?

because although Onur air is coming up on the list on the ABTA website under GoldTrail

The letter I received was from Customflights.co.uk and the letter states they are ATOL protected.

But, Customflights are not listed on the ABTA site????

I am also angry as when booking through Travel Republic website, it is not clear what the T&C's are for ONUR

Infact there are no T&C'S on the website.

I sent an online message to Travel Republic on the 29th May and todatee have had no reply.
So I called them about 3 days ago and asked that I was looking to book with them flights with Onur Air and asked where were the T&C's located on their website, I was told to do a search on google for Onur and then go to their website.

So I did this and the site which came up was in Turkish and when I clicked on the British Flag for English all that came up was a flight search page.

NO T&C's

Im not sure what to do,, £100 is alot, it would come out of our spending money and thats tight as it is (first family holiday ever)

The other thing the letter states that the price is guarenteed not to go up unless the price of barrel reaches $150.00 (and whats the chances of that happening before we are meant to depart)

Is anybody in the same boat?

And advise?

Much appreciated

ABTA: Association of British Travel Agents
ATOL: Air Travel Organiser's Licence

They are different but similar in that they are there to protect the traveller when things go wrong.

Thanks Dazbo5.

Any one else in a similar situation or can give advice on this?

It sounds to me as if your contract is with Custom Flights - you'll find a link for their general T&Cs at

http://www.customflights.co.uk/

Travel Republic often uses sub-contractors in this way - their booking confirmation normally makes this clear. In the first instance you need to check Travel Republics T&Cs - you will have had to tick to say that you had read and agreed to them before they would have processed the bookings and see what they say about surcharges. Following that I suggest that you then need to deal direct with Custom Flights, they are the people who will have booked your flights, and ask them about Onur Air's T&Cs. A bit of a pain I know but unfortunately, with bookings on the Net your contract is not necessarily automatically and solely with the main website owner. I often use Travel Republic for comparing prices but then try wherever possible to make the actuall booking direct with the hotel or airline - it avoids these sort of complications.

Thanks SMa,

The thing is I had never heard of Custom Flights untill recieving the letter demanding the extra charges.

As far as was aware, I was booking through Travel Republic to fly with Onur Air.

If you check your confirmation of reservation notice from Travel Republic I think you'll find that it will have a section there indicating that the supplier of the flight is Custom flights. I have used TR for hotel bookings in inland Andalucia and every time I have first received a notice confirming the details of the reservation on which it states that the booking is with Jumbo Tours and I have then later received a confirmation of the booking from Jumbo Tours. Are you sure that this isn't what happened with your booking?

The information they send once payment has been made should really be readily available to view prior to makeing the payment and completing the booking.
Is that not right ?

We were charged £35.00 per person (x 5) Fuel surcharge.

I can see other airlines flying to the same destination and charging only £20.00 - so the charge i paid was excessive to begin with.

Travel Republic state that they respond to all queries raised within 3 buisness days and no later than 3 days,, its now been 6 days and no reply from the, so much for Gold Standard Customer Service they promise.

Im so frustrated, I thought all was booked and everything was sorted and now this.
If we dont pay, we cant fly,
And if we cancel we get charged rediculous cancelation charges.

Turning into a night mare.

Thanks SM for you responses.

CustomFlights are not ABTA Members, so they are not on ABTA's Lst of approved airlines that are permitted to request this added surcharge.

I'm sorry bbaby, but I have had to edit out most of the content of your post. For legal and copyright reasons, you should not reproduce material from other websites, nor should you reproduce the contents of private correspondence without the sender's consent. You may summarise in your own words, but not directly reproduce material.

With regard to your comment that Customflights is not a member of ABTA, the company does not require to be as it is not a travel agent. Customflights describes itself as an ATOL bonded seat only tour operator, registered under ATOL number 9186.

Hi bbaby,
If you have read my previous post on this I think it is a similar situation to us.
We too had paid £35 already fuel surcharge and within 2 weeks had received a letter asking for another £20 per flight.
I am awaiting a reply from Custom Flights as to why they are charging £55 fuel surcharge on our flights yet you can book flights now through the same companies, using same airline and fuel surcharges are not near this amount.
I agree it seems unfair and unjust.
I would imagine that you have same copy letter we recieved which is signed by the Managing Director.
I would suggest that you also e-mail him as we have done to ask for a reasonable explanation.
One of the other frustrating things is we had no cancellation option without incurring a charge.
If we had we could have re-booked cheaper and with only a £35 fuel charge. That was relly annoying.
Hope we get a reply.
Regards Dave

we've just received our surcharge today
£44.76 for the 3 of us ,but it says that there is a £1 per head admin fee, is this right ??

i've booked through goldtrail, but the invoice is from quickstep leisure

a bit peeved but i understand everyone is getting them right ?

I'm sure Goldtrail use Onur Air, so yes I think the charge is correct I'm afraid.

I have just received fuel surcharge letter from Goldtrail, which apparently we are obliged to pay. I have spoken to ATOL who confirm they are able to add these charges.

Seems crazy to me, we already paid £50 per person fuel supplement when we booked, now they want an extra £18 + £1.00 per person admin fee.

Also flying out of Cardiff and they are now stating they don't know the flight times, it will be on our tckts.
Wouldn't use this company again.
