OK - maybe I could have worded that better.

What I am trying to say is that if all you want to do is eat English food on holiday - say Steak & Chips, Curry and Chips, Chocolate Cake, etc - then why not go to Benidorm or stay in the UK !!

My daughter is very adventurous & has a wide variety of foods she enjoys.

She has dined in a variety of restaurants & I cook a wide variety of foods.

We have never been to Benidorm so don't have your experience of it, so I cannot comment on the food they serve there, it has never appealed to us as a family.

PS my daughter would not dream of teaming chips with curry.

Ive been to Bendorm several times and Turkey loads of times, and one time to the ADR last August. As far as AI goes there is no difference between Turkey or Spain.
ADR is a very nice complex, I have no complaints about it, but its certainly not the best place ive ever been to.

i have to agree with you kim, food is important to me on an all inc holiday, i love some of the turkish food and other international food and would never dream of eating curry and chips etc either lol, but the food at the aegean was below standard compared to some other 5* hotels ive stayed in at turkey, lamb was all bone, veal was very fatty and in similar sauces everyday food greasy and salty, it got very boring, i expect better than this for a 5* hotel, even the rep said she had told the chefs to do more choice ,at the end of the day it was a family hotel and in the evening the young kids did struggle with the food.the last few reviews said food was poor too, this was really my only fault with this hotel, aswell as the way the manager to spoke to me, i will be putting in a complaint about him when i get 5 mins
i was told by the reception manager and rep that the general manager was new this year so not sure if you have got him mixed up with someone else.also the hotel cleaniness was good but not immaculate, we did see a few cockroaches and the slide pool had grime around the edges as my swimsuit got covered in it ,so i didnt go in again, but our rooms were clean so that was more important to me
Reply
Agh ellie-meg where did you see the cockroaches?

I did see one on the steps from the pool to the restaurant terrace last year (this is an outdoor area, not inside the restaurant).

I saw a cockroach at Dalaman airport one year so big, it needed a passport, it was massive :yikes

We are going to the Reef Oasis Blue Bay in Sharm Sunday week :sun2
Its about 45 in the shade there at the mo.
Its a 5* premier (& cost a few bob) so I'm hoping the food is good.

I had a picture of the head chef at the ADR last year & my DD says he's changed too, perhaps this is a reason for a drop in standards?
Last year he went around & around at meal times chatting to diners & asking if they were happy with the food.

Last year I really enjoyed the fish restaurant, thought the Turkish was OK & didn't like the Italian at all. We did go for a romantic meal at sunset in Gumusluk at the Aquarium restaurant that I would recommend to anyone. Almost as good as the gone (but not forgotton White Dolphin in Olu Deniz) but half the price ;) So if you are booked for the ADR this year, go there for a fab meal out.

My daughter said it was nearly all grilled turkey & liver. Very repetative, she did get a bad tummy. She said the salads were all heavily dressed, so you couldn't choose your mix & how much oil or dressing you liked. I personally would have eaten out rather than be miserable about the food, but they are youngsters on a tight budget. They loved everything else about it.
I recommended it to them, because of the rooms & seaview from the rooms :whoops
I should have suggested the Olu Deniz resort hotel, they have sea-view rooms too (I always book one), but you need to do a bit of mountain climbing :rofl

I do hope I haven't worried anyone already booked too much, we do all have different tastes & ideas, but anyone thinking about booking, perhaps you should investigate a few more reviews before you decide.

kim we saw a few around the tables outside the pool bar 1 evening and on another occasion saw 1 in the annex corridor grr !

your daughters description of the food is spot on, 1000 ways to cook turkey , im sick of the sight of turkey now grrr, hubby moaned about the salads all chopped up and mixed with rocket, i didnt mind this but he hated it lol, it wasnt just the choice of food that was poor but the quality too wasnt great, i have no complaints about breakfast that was fine. as for the italian it wasnt very good, the bread sticks were stale, pasta was good ,veal was so braised all sinew was included throughout it and soft as it had been cooked so long grrr, so obviously very cheap, and as for the cheesecake that was a dried bit of cake it was disgusting lol. i just wish they had more dessert choices as i know they make great rice pudding, creme caramel, meringues, eclairs etc, we had these once and they should have ice cream for the kids in the evening, ellie never had a dessert apart from the odd melon

no one came around asking how the food was, i wonder why lol, infact we heard loads of people complaining about the food to the waiters, the head waiter was lovely and i felt sorry for him, wasnt his fault, the rep told me the chef refused to take anyones advice re the food !!

we still had a good holiday, as the location was good, most of the staff were great, our room was lovely, most of the entertainment was good, although ampitheatre not very comfy, we used the spa services lots for massages, back treatment , manicures etc, and enjoyed all that.

the dodgey man that grabbed the kids was a worry especially when the security didnt take it seriously and recognised him , so i would warn anyone going there to be careful incase he comes again as anyone can walk through the path next to the beach were he was !!!

hope you have a good holiday in sharm thats 1 place i would like to visit, last time i was there was 25 years ago when there was nothing there, so would be interesting to see what they have done there

Anyone know of a good place to book the accomodation only apart from direct with the hotel. I was hoping to get a free child place for next May but they seem to have gone already (even though I managed to get on in February for May this year !!) which is why I am looking at doing it DIY this year.

I don't want to go anywhere else I am only interested in this hotel.

Thanks

I booked DIY for this August collette and at the time I booked (2 rooms for 6 of us) and despite an extensive search Thomson accomodation only were the cheapest . A couple of weeks latter I found cosmos doing an excellent package deal so it may be worth having a look on their accomodation only site http://www.somewheretostay.co.uk . travel republic also had it but for us worked out much more than thomson at the time .

After reading some of these reports chris I wish we were going back to the BB but Im not going to worry , we all want different things on a holiday . The food doesnt sound like it will be anywhere near as good but I will eat anything and the reports for previous years do seem much better during high season than at other times of the year. Heres hoping :bling

Have you read the reviews for the BB this year ?

At the end of the day it's too late to change anything - just enjoy it - I wish I was going in your place !!

On my last day at the ADR I was speaking to a family who were at the BB last year and i was interested to see which one they thought was the best as the BB had been recomended to me previously.

In the case of food and service she said that the BB won hands down - the ADR is help yourself - waiters do not come and ask you want you want to drink. However, on an all round basis her family would chose the ADR as the better holiday and were thinking of returning next year.

If you like cocktails they have a choice of about 15 this year.

Hope that helps and have a great time.

Just been reading the latest reviews for ADR on another site, not sure if I'm allowed to mention what site it is, but the latest 6 reviews from people just back May and June 2008 are fantastic and really positive about food, cleanliness and staff. I can't wait to go :)

I'm sure it will be fine Lyn :tup and you will have a great time. It would be great if you did a review as I would still consider going if I coould get it at a good price.

It would be good if people recommended reading the reviews on this site rather than a rival site. :(

ive sent you the reservation email ad. if youre not too fussy with your food you will be ok, everything else was fine, ive just been spoilt with lykia world and letoonia, it will take a lot to beat lykia world for everything especially the food and its difficult not to compare when the star ratings are the same !! we still had a good holiday and turgutreis is lovely and only 15 mins along the beach path to get there.

chris once you to lykia world you wont want to go anywhere else, nothing comes close. when are you going, ive looked for prices for next year and its about £ 400 more than i found for this year grrr

I know its near enough a year since I was there and things do change but really don't worry :)
Reviews on food before I went were mixed but as I put on 5lbs I really can't complain!
My only gripe was the heavy dependency on turkey (bird!) and coconut in the desserts but as I understand it they open more cooking stations as the season goes on. Food was always fresh on the stations. Inside it came out of the kitchen frequently and was hot then but you know how people leave lids open etc. Salad stuff was plain last year and you added your own dressing. Perhaps they will revert to this.
Location is stunning, place is spotless and I hear the old animation team is back ( they decamped en masse to La Blanche last year)
I can't do a true comparison between the BB and ADR its like comparing an apple to a pear!! but would happily go to either of them again
