It's sounds like you are covered. However I would definitely call again and ask for it in writing. There may be a note added to your policy.

It's all very well saying the call is recorded. However these messages often say the call may be recorded and I have heard of several instances where people have asked to hear the recording of a call only to be told that it can't be produced either because they cannot find it or it was never recorded in the first place.

Not meaning to worry you, just being very cautious and trying to prevent any problems in the future.

Any time I have called my insurance with an update or to add medical conditions for family members who aren't travelling, but on whom our travel depends, such as parents, they have always sent me and updated schedule of insurance when I asked for it.

Just as an aside, my cousin is going to Tenerife on honeymoon next week. He was diagnosed with a serious liver condition a few months ago which has improved, but is still being monitored. I called him today to remind him to advise his insurance and also to get an EHIC card.

His reply was that he got Gold insurance from the travel agent at £90 each and wasn't told anything. I insisted he had to advise them and he said he would just take his chance and jokingly said that if he died there then too bad. Yes it would be too bad for his new wife as she would have to find the cost of repatriating his body and I know for a fact that she lives from day to day and has no savings.

I had an operation for bowel cancer in June this year and had to cancel a holiday and made a successful claim from our travel insurance company. I am making a good recovery,so I am starting to search for a suitable Insurance as I hope to be able to travel early next year. http://www.allcleartravel.co.uk was recommended in an earlier post and I have just got a quote for £359.62 (to include my condition) and £133.42 (to exclude it)
Can anyone recommend any others I can try please? We normally have Annual Insurance.
Regards Sue

Hi lincolnsue and pink-kissess ... members' recommendations from throughout this topic have been summarised into a list on page 1. If you haven't already done so, it may be worth checking out those under the heading "Cover for pre-existing medical conditions".

I'm about to renew my annual policy with Direct travel Insurance, underwritten by AIG UK Ltd. I have been really pleased with them, although I'm lucky in that I haven't had to make a claim so far (which I appreciate can make a huge difference to an opinion!).

Each year that I have renewed, I have received a 10% discount on the premium (currently £29 for the standard europe policy, which covers up to 30 days per trip, for as many trips as you want each year). Their website is http://www.direct-travel.co.uk.

Their Premier (£45) and Premier plus (£99) options include some pre-existing (disclosed) confitions and they will provide quotes for any pre-existing medical conditions not covered.

Rates are also available for "Couples or Family" and "Single Parent Family" along with worldwide cover and single trip premiums.

With all tis talk of airlines going bust and some people not being covered, does anyone know of any travel insurance companies that do provide cover for scheduled airline failure?

Having booked a holiday with Thomson I refused travel insurance, as I have the free travel insurance, with our bank. The question is do I have to inform the bank with the hoilday details etc, or am I just covered to go?

With the problems of XL going down the pan, along with others this year, as anyone paid for insurance to protect this from happening ?
Thought I would have a browse, as this is something I have never known you could do, insurance from take off to your return home - yes, but not companys going bust.
Found this info, which further down the page has a link to a company offering this service (I guess more will now start offering the service).
I have deposits paid for 4 of us next year, costing £500 paid for with a debit card, which I understand is not covered as well as a credit card (if any cover at all), and even though they may be atol/abta protected you will have a wait for a refund (if any) ?
Spike.

MariaH .. some airlines and most travel agents sell Scheduled Airline Failure Insurance (SAFI). As for insurance companies, Swiftcover is one that has been mentioned previously as a provider of SAFI.

Sunseeker ... it varies according to bank and policy, you would be best checking your individual policy. Check too that the cover is adequate, as some free policies provide only very limited cover.

Good reading, Spike. I've paid an agent a deposit of £350 with a debit card for Monarch flights with the balance due in November. Not sure whether I should pay the balance with a Visa card, take out insurance or just keep fingers crossed!

Getting to Goa seems to be more of a hassle every year. We've got used to the vagaries of the visa system, flights being chopped and changed but it looks like we now have to consider whether the airline we booked with will actually still be in business by the time we fly! :que

Anybody got the number for Butlins? :rofl

I have just checked my "free" travel insurance policy with Lloyds Bank and found that airline failure is excluded.

One travel insurance company that includes Scheduled Airline Failure is http://www.travelplandirectinsurance.com However I have just been reading their policy and they do not cover "the use of intoxicating drink or drugs". As most people enjoy a drink on holiday they would be immediately excluded from any claim arising directly or indirectly from having a drink.

The Post Office travel insurance also covers airline failure.

I will have to check mine then, its Halifax free insurance. Glad you looked at yours rpbristol. Would that now make you take out alternative cover?

But if you get travel insurance doesnt that cover flight ?

No, standard travel insurance doesn't cover scheduled airline failure. It should however cover cancellation for a reason listed on the policy such as a close bereavement or medical reason provide it is not excluded from the policy.

does anyone know when the new protectmyholiday.com website will be up and running. Have registered my details with them. At the moment swiftcover.com are the cheapest for me and you can add airline failure for £1. I must admit I did not know that most insurance policies did not cover for airline fairlure. I am sure there is a lot of people out there think the same.

I would be very way of using Swiftcover. I considered them for car insurance, but when I searched the internet I found loads of bad reviews about them not paying out.

I believe http://www.protectmyholiday.com goes live on Tuesday.

Thanks Luci, will wait until then. Want to get the insurance as soon as possible. We are not going until christmas. The person who we are renting from has told me that she has had two cancellations for October alone. A poor family have lost their deposit and flights. The new flights came in at £3000 for 4 of them so they cant afford to go now.

Can't find many insurance companies who offer airline protection.
