Goa Discussion Forum

Discussions regarding holidays in Goa.
On the Indian news channel they had interviewed a London man who had got out of the Taj hotel who was saying that the terrorists inside were young men between 20-25 and they were trying to take British or Americans as hostages.

Also a large explosion was heard coming from the roof of the Taj hotel. They were also reporting that one of the most senior anti terrorist policeman in Mumbai was killed. :yikes

All scary stuff, these thing happening today are not good for Indian or Thai tourism. :(

Also being reported that hostages have been taken from a hospital in Mumbai, this is crazy stuff.

And 100 hostages being held at the Taj hotel.

Blimey sounds like a massive battle going on at the Taj!!!

I just hope that its only the blinking terrorists that die.

It's burning away and with the battle going on....not a single fire engine in site. They are now saying the Taj could end up as just a pile of ashes.

OMG.....What is happening to our beloved India??? :really :cry :que :( :duh

Another major fire has broken out at the Taj Hotel!

Although a fireman exiting the building said that there was now no one in the hotel.

Shocking News and so very sad.. :(

I had just found a flight this evening to Goa on the 17th Jan and we had planned to spend a few days in Mumbai that's unlikey now which is very sad and perhaps a few more people who planned to travel will have the same sentiments.
A one off incident ? who knows but it seems certain from early reports that British and US citizens were being targeted.

I am so shocked about this... I've seen the picture of the Taj hotel

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/7751160.stm

and just can't beleive it, what makes it worse for us is I'm not sure if one of our volunteers who has spent three months with us is there or not as she left yesterday and I told her to stay close to the Taj! I'm pretty sure her flight wasn't till today, but can't get hold of her.....

My thoughts are with everyone with friends / family there....

The following message has been released by the British High Commission here in India.

The following message has been received from the British Deputy High Commision for all British Nationals:

We are advising those in Mumbai to remain where they are until further notice. Those who are in the affected area outside their hotels are being advised to go to the British Council Library (022 2279 0127) which has been set up as a muster point for British citizens in need of assistance. The area is closed off but we are taking in Brits. Local security is advising against entering the area as they are trying to control the area (partly for us) but those affected can enter.

For those in other parts of the city wanting advice on whether to leave, we are advising them to seek local advice from their hotels as to whether they can safely reach the airport and catch flights out of Mumbai. For those who had planned to come to Mumbai, we are advising against all non-essential travel for the time being.

Helpline numbers are:
