Hi
My husband, daughter and myself are going here on 25/6/09 for 2 weeks. i have heard that other hotels in Egypt charge for bottled water. can anybody tell me if this is the case here?
Thanks.
Sarah.
They don't charge you at HV for water, but if it's very busy they may limit you to 2 bottles each as when we went last May there were families of 4 taking about 10 bottles,no thought for anyone else. Also the only time you can get them is at breakfast time. But the bars are open all day so plenty of drinks available.
We are going back this May again, can't wait.
we vist 29th June for two weeks , might buy you a drink
Me and my wife and my 2 kids are off to the HV on the 25/06/09.
Sarah, about 2 weeks before the date you leave email the HV and ask them to empty your mini bar(if you want) and put some bottles of water in it for you.
Ian
anyone else going May 15th? for 2 weeks.?
We go 19th May for 2 weeks.
Hi all we're going on 21st sept 09 for two weeks staying at holiday village, it's our first time to egypt feeling very excited but also a little apprehensive.
Hi mel-1810 we go hv on 28th sept week after
Don't be worried it is fantastic there, especially if you have kids. We had such a lovely relaxing time there last year. Can't wait to go back and get a bit of sunbathing in.
They don't give out the water in the restaurant any more. Each day they deliver one bottle of water for each person to your room. They say you can then top the bottle up throughout the day at the water dispensors.
They do put bottled water in your fridge with the snacks, but that is charged to your room. We asked them to remove all goodies from our fridge. My brother also asked them to remove the stuff but they still tried to charge him when he checked out.

Ian - Cheers - How old are your kids. We have a daughter who will be 10?
Jim - Cheers - I'll hold you to that drink to celebrate my birthday while we are away.
runningcaz - Cheers for info.
It's our first time to Egypt so any tips would be appreciated.
We have been to HV in Costa del sol and apart from husband being ill the HV was brill. My daughter did Stagecoach while there and now goes every week back home.
Sarah.
If you've got time read through a couple of pages of this thread I'm sure you will pick up some useful tips.
ATB Ian
p.s. We are flying out on the 27th not the 25th, wishfull thinking on my part.
Ian, i'm sure my daughter will convince them that they should go to wavelength.
Just wondered if anyone has been on any trips out of Sharm. There are 6 of us travelling, two kids, two parents, two grandparents. Has anyone been to Cairo or Luxor. Was it expensive to get there, time consuming, was it worth it? My husband would have also liked to have gone to the Dead Sea, he suffers with psoriasis, anyone been, or know of any trips there.
I have also read that there is a water park in the area, anyone been.
I am also concerned about the number of people who have been ill on holiday and wondered what was the best thing to take prior to the holiday or just wait until we get there and go to a chemist.
Money - which currency should we take English or Egyptian?
Rooms - we have booked in the Holiday Village and we have 2 Junior Suites, what is the best area for these rooms and what do these rooms look like Do they have kettles, hairdryers? How far are these rooms to the heated pool?
Hotel Food - a number of different opinions about good food/bad food and fast food outside the hotel, which is recommended?
Water in the room, is it supplied every day, do we pay for it and if we fill the bottles up is the water drinkable.
We are travelling in February is the weather hot, is it cold at night, do we need to wrap up at all. Are there mosquitoes in Feb.
Sorry for all the questions, but I do like to know before I go anywhere, to be prepared.
I would just like to thank everyone for all their views they are a great help.
I can help with a few things. We went last May and we are going back this May. We all took Acidopholis(not spelt right) tablets 2 weeks before we went and whilst thereand none of us had any tummy trouble. If you look on this thread most people who took these didn't suffer too much.
We got water bottles at breakfast time, but I think this has changed and it now is put in your room each day. We didn't fill up bottles from the water coolers as it tasted disgusting an I think a good way of catching a tummy bug.
The food was fine whilst we were there,I am fussy and even I found something to eat.
There were no mossies when we were there, but we did use the Avon skin so soft body lotion as suggested.
I think your better off taking english money as you can pay for most things with english.
There is a shop outside of the gate and turn left which had just opened as we left last year and the prices are much lower than in the hotel.
Don't think I can help with much more
There were mossies there in Dec/Jan a few of our group got bitten. I am usually mossie feed and didn't get touched! I did use the mossie tabs in the room and mossie spray when I went out at night.

Off the the HV in 10 days, woooo hooooo I hope someone wouldn't mind answering a few daft questions for me?
1. I'm sure I read somewhere there is a UK socket in the rooms, is this correct?
2. How does the towel situation work? In other HV's there's been a towel hut that you swap cards for, but I understand that in this hv there are lads who give you your towels and they get you sunbeds, is that correct? Should they be tipped every day for this and how much?
3. We very very rarely make breakfast, we're not a morning kind of family. Is there a few snack bars dotted around?
4. Is there a snack bar on the beach or is it a bar only?
5. Do I need a visa if I plan on doing the Ras Mohammed excursion? Any other excursions that you would recommend (not quad biking though)?
Thanks in advance.

I can help you a bit with some of your queries.
The towel situation is swapping card for a towel. If you ask them to get you a bed they will but I don't think its automatic.
Afetr breakfast the snack bar opens at around 12.30 i don't think there is anything before.
The bar on the beach is just a bar no snacks.
Can't really help with trips as we only did the Tiran Island snorkelling which you don't need a visa for,but you do need one for Ras Mohammed.
Does anyone know, is the Ras Mohammed trip worth doing. What does it involve and what other interesting excursions are there?
I don't want to do Cairo on a weeks holiday. We'll maybe do that if we return for 2 weeks though.
Thanks again.

I did the RM trip in 2005. It's good if you enjoy snorkelling and it was nice just looking at the coastline from the boat along the way.Scottishmum wrote:Does anyone know, is the Ras Mohammed trip worth doing. What does it involve
We went to Ras, those who wanted to snorkelled with a guide, those who didn't want to either stayed on the boat or swam near it.
On the way back we stopped off at another reef and same as before, some snorkelled/swam, some stayed on the boat.
At some point during the day we had a BBQ on board although I can't remember when! Drinks were provided and there is a toilet on board.
I'd definitely do it again
What I can't remember is whether we booked it with FC or with the guys at the Conrad but I'd imagine most of these RM trips are pretty much the same using the same boats and crew.
