Hi,
I am trying to make the decision of whether to upgrade to Premium Economy on our flight and wanted to know which plane we would be going on. It is TOM 142 out of Manchester 20th Aug to Mombassa. Returning 4th Sept. ex Mombassa to Manchester, TOM 143.

Need to know seat pitches in economy/premium and any opinions on whether it is worth £159 ea return to upgrade. Having flown VA and being asked for twice that ampount it seems cheap.

Cheers

Seat Pitch 36"(Virgin=38")
Economy seat pitch 33"

You'll be on what was a first choice 767, for £159 I would snatch their hand off, it is definately worth it. You are basically paying £99 for the premium service and £60 tax.
You get the upgraded movie/games package (£10.00) Upgraded Amenity packs, both ways not just outbound Unlimited drinks and upgraded meals on full trays.

Saying that £159 each can go a very long way in Mombassa in regards to activities, safari's etc...

I personallywould take it, having flown with Virgin in PE before the service is far better, and more attentive- similar passenger figures(10 more) but 2 more crew between you.

Cheers for the replies. Think I will ring them again and book it. I read somehwere about not booking row 9 in PE as it has no window view. Is that for this plane?

XYSTER,

Welcome onboard :tup
I've flown extensively with FCA and got back from Mombassa with them in March. You'll find my trip reports (not for Mombassa) on the What Aircraft? thread along with photo's of the aircraft and cabins. It's my opinion the star class (economy) cabin is perfectly adequate and it isn't necassary to upgrade to premium economy (star class premium). It is nice, but I'd rather put the money towards a nicer hotel and get the benefit for 2 weeks rather than just the duration of the flights, or put towards activities in resort. As Wizard mentions, you'll find lots of aircraft details on the What Aircraft? thread and over the pages here.

That's correct, row 9 on the former First Choice Boeing 767-300/ER's don't have windows.

You have several options. You can either chance it and hope you get 4 seats in a row (there's a fair chance, but no guarantees), pre-book seating together where you'll be pretty much guaranteed 4 seats in a row, across an isle (but not absulutely guaranteed), or pre-book specific seat numbers by calling the airline within 4 weeks of your depature date. The latter two have a charge.

Metallicatease,

They do, but it depends which flight you are on as there's 6 a week. The one where there's 4 seats in the middle is TOM4534/5, operated by a Boeing 767-304/ER on a friday between 3rd July and 16th October. The rest of the flights are operated by narrow bodied aircraft (737-300, 757-200, A321-200) that are 3-3.

The flight i'm looking at is on friday the 10th of july, so would that fall into the 4 middle seated schedule?

If you went for the following flight and corresponding return, then yes:

Dep LGW Fri 10:05, Arr TFS 14:30, Boeing 767-304/ER, Flight No: TOM4534

There's also the following, operated by aircraft that are 3-3

Dep LGW Fri 18:50, Arr TFS 23:15, Bowing 757-200 (winglets), Flight No: TOM4590

Refer to our What Aircraft? thread for more aircraft details.
