Just returned from two weeks in Lindos, staying at the Lindos Gardens Hotel. We mainly went for the Classic Rock Tours Gig (let me know if you want to find out about this anymore).
Very pretty place, little walk down to village, but after a few days you get used to it. We also walked all the way to the beach so came back fitter than when we went! We didn't bother catching the bus as we thought the walking would make up for the extra drinks etc.
Hotel was very nice, we were at the very top near the Infinity Pool and had amazing view over the Acropolis. The hotel rooms were good, the only downside was there were no pads on the sunbeds and the snack bar was a bit pricey E4.30 for a plate of chips. However 6.30-8.30 is Happy Hour for beer, wine and long drinks.
Price wise - well it broke our budget, compared to Samos and Zante a couple of years ago (ignoring the fact the exchange rate is bad) it was still pricey. The cheapest beer we found was 2.50, usually 3-4. Discovered draft is more expensive than bottles. Long drink (although no more than a normal shot you get at home) from 4-5.50, wine 3.50 for a glass 10-14 for a litre caraffe. Sandwich for lunch 4-8 (depending on what restaurant you were in). Evening meals, starters between 4.50-7 and mains from 9, up to 24 we saw for a steak at one place. I know prices have gone up, but this did seem very pricey. We also went to Ixia, Rhodes Town, Lardos and Pefkos and the prices were generally the same (I know smaller inland places cheaper of course but if you are in the resort and don't have a car you have to pay it).
The trips were also pricey, we didn't book with rep but paid 36E to Symi each which didn't include food. This compared to £5 last year on a trip in Turkey which did include food (although I know Turkey is cheaper and not Euro) so we did expect to spend more. The jeep safari was 62E which we didn't bother with.
Our favourite restaurants were Mythos and La Terrace for the service as well. We discovered on Rhodes you get the main course immediately after the starter, sometimes whilst still in the middle of it so you have to ask for a delay. We asked the owner of Mythos why and he seemed to think that is what British liked.
Billys Bar was good and the most reasonably prices, we also went to Socrates (Rock bar) and Karma (Reggae) and both were nice. The general feeling we had about the restaurants was because there are so many day trippers you didn't get the same sort of Greek charm as we have found on other islands. Saying that Lindos is very picturesque and I loved my holiday, but I wouldn't go back.
We didn't get any hassle with people trying to get you in the bars, they said do you want to look at the menu, but if you didn't no bother at all.
If you stay in Lindos, avoid the village during the day as about 15 coaches arrive at the top and 5 boats, whereas during the evening you can wander at the shops and it's much quieter.
The glass bottom boat trip from the little beach was well worth it and we really enjoyed that. Also the trip to Symi was lovely, although you are cattled into the ferry so get there early if you want a seat on the 1.5 hour crossing.
So we had a good time, it was well worth seeing, especially if you like the history of the Acropolis or Rhodes Old Town, but due to the cost of the trips, at the end we were getting a bit fed up of just the beach, even though we had caught buses everywhere, we tend to have a beach/pool day, trip day, whereas we found we couldn't afford that here.
Sorry you considered it expensive - we found Cyprus far more expensive in February this year.
I didn't spot you at the RockFest - but not knowing what you look like made it difficult :)

My partner has a mohawk and was either wearing a ZZ Top or Hendrix t-shirts - although that could be a dozen people!
sorry to hear that you found the island to be expensive , to be honest with you we have only been the once and that was last year staying in Rhodes town , the prices you quoted for the trip to Symi and for beer are more or less the same as what we paid last year. we were really surprised by how much we didn't spend , we didn't book any trips through the rep either, included in the price was a taxi pick up from hotel to the harbour .
We had actually booked for September but cancelled due to the euro and we got a good deal for Mexico but I'm hoping that next year the euro improves so we can go back to Lindos. Been twice, once for our honeymoon 2 years ago and found it to be amazing.
Its funny how we all encounter different experiences, I suppose it's good otherwise there would only ever be one holiday destination to go to!
Good point Sooze
The Gambia is mine and then Rhodes, not that it was awful, I have just been to places that I enjoyed more. Although I must say I found the Gambia dreadful and would have happily come home early.
I thought Rhodes was okay but the resort of Pefkos where we stayed, I had a different opinion, not unlike a street I once lived after it was knocked down.
Thanks for the report, as you can see it brought back memories
