never mind the airport - which airline are you flying with? Some of them can be quite helpful with this sort of thing (but not sure about candles during flight!).

vicky06,

The airport is pretty busy at this time of year and with F&B's being a new outlet, I would expect it's very popular. You should have plenty of time if that's where you want to go, but bear in mind by the time you've got through security you'll need to alow ample time before your flight. Just an idea, what about taking a small cake in your hand luggage so you can have it on the flight? Avoid candles though! Or for something extra special, if you tell the cabin crew it's his birthday, ask them to inform the Captain and he might make an announcement. They like doing that sort of thing depending on who it is.

Thanks acorn.

Steve its Thomson airways, ive rang and they dont do anything like cakes unfortunatley.
They said i can take one onboard providing they let me through security with it, im just worried i might get there and its gets confiscated and i have a sad little boy.

Anyone else experiencing "interesting" things when pre-booking parking at Manchester Airport??

Recently the charges for on-site Longstay T2 actually dropped lower than the charges for Shuttle Park which is a few miles away - if pre-booked. However pre-booking through APH seems to hit problems occasionally - you end up getting hit for an extra charge on leaving the car park even though you followed all the rules, entering and exiting well within the pre-booked range, and using the same credit card.

APH, in their email response to my complaint, claim it's a problem with Manchester Airport computers
- and Manchester Airport, when I called them, say it's a problem with data files being sent to them from APH computers.

Meantime I'm out a few pounds and I really don't want to talk to either of the companies on their disgraceful 0871 10 pence a minute phone lines - and thus end up further out of pocket.
It's not a lot of cash I admit - but it really is annoying.

Hi We have just booked a bargain holiday to Kos, flying with Viking, departing at 05.00 am. I have noticed on earlier posts, that the runway at Manchester opens at 06.00 am.
Who is correct? Libra or the clever people on here.
Also would like to know what will be open in T2 at around 03.00 am when we will arrive (hopefully) at the airport, as we have not booked meals on the flight and hope to pick up some supplies at the airport.

Thanks in anticipation

TonyH,

Viking are correct! A limited number of flights are permitted to take off before 6am so you'll be departing at your expected time, don't worry. Not much will be open in T2 at that time of day. Only the main food outlet and duty free shop, everything else doesn't start to open until about 5am. It depends when you're flying though, if its over the next couple of months (ie peak season) they might open earlier.

Any news on when scheduled A380 flights are to commence from Manchester? I guess it would be Emirates.
Reply
Son Of Homer,

There are none planned as yet. There are roumours that Emirates may announce something for around January time, but there's nothing confirmed and given MAN doesn't have a big business sector, it'll be with a high density version rather than their current configuration.

It'd be cool to see that one flying over my house - I missed it on the test flight a while back! And I'm starting a new job in the Stockport/Cheadle area in September; the planes come in very low there, I'll be worrying about it landing in the car park!

cyberspacekadette,

Here's the photo's of her probably flying over your house on 12th July 2008 on the inaugral approach in to Manchester.

Great photos! I don't think it was that low over my house though, I'm a bit further out, just on the Tameside/Stockport border, right under the flight path - some planes seem to come quite low (especially PIA), others still seem to be a bit higher up at that point. Been working just inside the Stockport border this year and the planes are a tiny bit lower, and I know they're much lower over my new job in September - I'll be spending all my time plane-spotting instead of working!
