Discussions regarding holidays in Goa.
Hi all :cheers
For my spending money whilst in India i use my Nationwide card at the ATM's....the only problem is that they give you large denomination notes..
I was just wondering if you can go into the banks and get them to change you some money for big bundles of 10 or 50 rupee notes...(very handy for tipping or beggers)....

34 days to go.... :hols

hi all,
Have been watching the exchange rate on xe.com for ages and it has been very steady between 78 to 80 for weeks but is now on a very downward slide 74!! Anyone able to explain this sudden fall? :que :que

Although it is meant to be according to the currency markets, and shouldn't change because of demand, but I wonder :que if the approaching tourist season has any bearing on the rates going down??!! :think

It always slowly starts to go down towards the end of november, but seems to have started 6 weeks early this year.Lets hope it stops sliding down very soon and starts climbing again. :think

Puts everything into perspective when you read articles like this one

Workers in clothing factories to get a minimum £56.50 a month ( at today's rate ).

Should we be complaining ?!

But bet we still all go to primark and other cheap places to buy our clothes for hols.

With my luggage allowance I'm going to have to buy them in India !

Don't get me wrong, buying products made in India helps their economy, as does spending our £'s on holiday there. The point being though that we measure our spending power in bottles of Kingfisher and meals out whilst the majority of locals can't aspire to anything other than a basic living.

Anyway, back to the exchange rate.... now down to 73 and a bit. Lost 10% in a week or two.

I am suprised the rate is so high, just looked at my Nationwide statements, last December it was as low as 70 to the £1 and in April it was approx 72 to the £1 so considering the fall in the value of the pound during the last month or so its not that bad. but have the Goan's put their prices up again this year?
