I did read the post that he wrote but I am not staying in Doha I have a connecting flight to Australia, may be I am reading it wrong but surely if you buy duty free in Britian you can take it all the way to Australia if you don't open it?? and I was just asking which country was cheaper.
There are lots of airports that will not allow passengers to take duty free liquid purchases (Heathrow won't for instance) through transfer. When the new rules came out a few years ago holiday internet sites were full of stories of people in transfer airports having their bottles of perfume and booze confiscated even though they had been bought in duty free and sealed correctly.
Better to wait until you get to Doha. I don't know which airport is cheaper though.

When you arrive in Doha and go through transfers your hand bagage is rescreened at this point ANY alcohol you have will be taken from you Qatar does not allow you to bring alcohol into the country and when transiting you do come into Qatar. If you wish to try be my guest. As I said before buy it in Doha Duty Free its the same price as Heathrow/Manchester or so i am told as I dont buy any.
In general, SOMETIMES liquid purchases are confiscated when passing through transit in UK airports and other airports around the world will do the same in similar circumstances.
If for instance you purchased alcohol in Doha airport and it was correctly sealed and flew to Heathrow and went through transit to fly onto Manchester then the alcohol would be confiscated,
BUT if you flew from Doha on a British Airways flight and bought alcohol onboard and went through transit to fly onto Manchester you would be allowed to keep the alcohol.
The reason is , because if you buy liquid duty free in an EU airport or on an EU carrier you can take it through transit.
Obviously Doha is not an EU airport so it would be confiscated, if you wanted to go through transit. the only airport outside the EU that has an agreement for non-confiscation is Singapore.
The reason for this is there is a "paper trail" within EU airports and EU carriers, so the liquid can be traced back as having been through security processes and is authentic, so no risk of an unauthorised liquid being carried aboard a plane.
bfletty, its best to buy your alcohol in Doha airport if you are flying directly to your destination in Australia, as it would be confiscated in Qatar for the reasons qatarman confirmed. then buy your alcohol in Doha if flying directly back to Manchester on the way back.
Hi,i'm traveling to goa with Qatar via Doha in Feb.have got good times going but on the return we have a layover, does anybody know if we will get accomodation/meal vouchers, meant to say it,s a 19hr.wait.
The best people to answer your question are Qatar Airways Customer Services as we dont know what class of ticket you have purchased, and the rules that apply to your ticket.
This lounge has showers etc but unfortunetly no booze.
I have also heard if you have a long stopover you may be eligible for a free meal but Qatar at Gatwick couldn't confirm this.
thanks for the info,i think we'll book the lounge,at least if they have showers it'll pass the time abit, pity about the lack of booze, but maybe that's just as well if you don't have to pay for drinks on the flight and then we've a few hours at gatwick before our flight back to isle of man,we'd proberbly need another holiday to get over the trip home
We are flying LHR-DOH-SEZ with 50 minutes between flights in DOH. Is this enough time to make it, or should we alert the ground staff and/or flight attendants about our transfer?
It is possible to make the connection, but it's rather tight. You only need a slight delay on your inbound aicraft in order to cause you problems. Qatar say a minimium of 35 minutes is required.

The terminal building is pretty small so you should make it with time to spaere provided the planes are on time. Our flights from Doha were delayed by approx 30 mins on both legs of our journey. Strange !! Qatarman says it's a regular occurance .
The vast majority of flights from Doha are Qatar Air flights so I guess they make up the timings to suit.
Thanks.

I would like to clear one point when travelling to the terminal on the Buisness Class bus it does tell you if you have onward flight to Stay On The Bus to the Premium Terminal.I was on it this morning.
thanks for the reply, I was reading through reviews and a number of people pointed out that its the second stop as no one informs you. Good to hear this is all now clear.
What lounge do Qatar provide for business class passengers at LHR, I have googled it and it says the United Lounge T1 but my itinary says we depart from T3.
It's the Servisair Lounge for Business Class and Privilege Club Silver members travelling on the QR008/QR006 and QR012/QR002. It's the Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse for First Class and Privilege Club Gold members. Those on the QR018 have the Cathay Pacific Lounge.
Darren
I checked the Qatar airways website and here is your answer. It all depends what your flight number is. If you are flying FIRST class you get to use the virgin atlantic club lounge. My flight will be for servisair lounge and i've used this many times before, don't get too excited its not great, unless of course they have had a major change since I last visited.
