English and Welsh airspace closure extended until 1300 hours Saturday. Possible ray of hope as follows, from The Guardian:

Some airports/routes they can probably stay low long enough to clear the risk zone over sea and still have enough fuel for the long haul
Over land probably not possible due to noise/safety restrictions
Meant to be travelling with First choice to the maldives 19.50 sunday night They cancelled all flights for tomorrow We got to check with airline tomorrow for update Spent nearly and hour trying to get through this morning Realstic how likely is this flight likely to take off ??
So the majority of flights out today from GLA are to Iceland!!

Thomsonfly keep updating this Travel Alert page, might be a good idea to keep checking in on it.

Angie.
Is there any chance that this flight will return but to a Northern airport if they are open and Heathrow is still closed.
Just read on the AOL news that several flights around 6 I think with BA have flown and are flying into Glasgow and Prestwick. They are looking at the possibility of flying T/A out of Glasgow. They will have around 6-7 aircraft in place so this could be a lifeline for us. Sunday flights.
NATS are saying there may be a window of opportunity between 04:00 and 10:00 BST for departures and / or arrivals at airports including and North of Manchester.
Darren had said friends of his who were to fly to Barbados to connect with a cruise were last night on their way to Glasgow as a Virgin flights was arriving there or had arrived there from Barbados. Now that flight will too be grounded.
ME I have accepted that I am not going anywhere tomorrow and whilst I will lose the money I have paid for rooms in Manchester that is not the end of the world. n
Life and safety are paramount.
I have decided that I will book another cruise with X on the Solstice in the Caribbean as there are reasonable prices with offers for over 55's.
Looking at the Equinox in Europe the prices are sky high with nearly £3600-£4000 for a 10 night balcony room.
Hope those of you who are stuck either abroad or at home will be able to get your plans sorted out in some way. There are millions much worse off than I am so I am indeed fortunate to be in my own home safe and sound

i agree with you, i have arranged a week in tunisia tomorrow for 18 people, we wont be able to get together for another week this year so will have to cancel. i know we may get our flight refunded but how do we stand with accomodation booked.
Same here i really dont think we will be going to turkey on tues ive not even packed yet i will just have to find more deals for another holiday this is the 2nd holiday this year we have not been able to go to myself and OH got swine flu in jan so had to miss egypt hope everyone gets home safe.
If its a package holiday you get your money back but DIY hols are a different story hope you get sorted x
Good luck everyone. I might have booked my flights and cruise seperately but a one way ticket to Miami meant that it was a better deal to allow X to do everything.
Sue
We are supposed to be going to Egypt on Tuesday, and as we have 3 kids and one has special needs we only get to do this once every 2 years! Trust something as rare as this to happen when we need a break!
I was hopeful until this morning, but now as i have heard the situation is getting worse i doubt that we will be flying out. The good news is that Thomson are going to give us a full refund if they have to cancel the holiday and at least we arent stuck somewhere or going to get married like i have watched on the news.....
We will just have to wait and see
Restriction are now in place until 0100 18 April.
Thanks Luci for keeping your nose to the grinding stone on behalf of all of us who use this Web Site what a wonderful job you all do.
I do have Fortis Insurance through my Current Account which is a fee servicing account. Perhaps I will be able to get the hotel cost refunded.
I am printing off cruises for the Caribbean and yes it is going to cost a bit more for the 2 BTB I am going to go ahead and reschedule 23rd May to 6th June. hopefully!!
That is over 4 weeks ahead and the prices are better than going earlier and my friend cant go away before the 16th.
Sue
Seems to be getting worse?
I have just spoken to Hilton and they will cancel both rooms booked with no charge. Manchester Airport booked. So anyone in my situation should try contacting the Hotels directly and see whether they can get any joy there.
