Aslemma - the Kasbah is up the hill to the top of the medina - the tower you see at the Kasbah is called the Khalef el fata tour (watchtower). I think it was also once the lighthouse. The views over the Medina and all the way down/up the coast are supposed to be great. The museum is also in the Kasbah. We have never managed to get there as it seems to have been closed for renovations for some time. We had mint tea in the Kasbah cafe in June - lovely cafe!

OK Anne, I know the Kasbah and where the Cafe is and I know the tower you are talking about, but you actually said Tour Khalef which threw me somewhat as it's a well-known hotel. :rofl I'll check out the museum and the watchtower for you when I'm out there but I'm certainly not climbing those steps, however fantastic the view might be. :yikes

Thanks for that! If we manage the steps I'll post a pic for your imagination :rofl Enjoy your holiday -
We dont go until Xmas Day so hopefully the rains will have eased up by then :tup

Hi Anne

3 years ago it was very much a building site

However by the start of last year it was almost ready and I would think should be open now

Web went to the tower in March and although we were told by some locals outside it was closed we could see people at the top of the tower. When I pointed this out he said they were workmen.I asked him why they had straw hats on and cameras. :que
When his back was turned we sneaked in and found a group of French holidaymakers with their guide.
One of the locals followed us in and said he would take us up the tower when the other group came down.
There were 83 steps but were in small groups. There is a flight of steps that go up inside a small passageway which my wuss of a husband almost gave up as he is claustrophobic. :rofl :rofl
We got to the top and had a great view to the sea, over Sousse including the 2 large cemeteries.
He also took us into the lighthouse.
The Kasbah was almost finished and after paying the bloke the admission fee and a tip we wandered off into the RED LIGHT district by accident which was doing a roaring trade for a Sunday morning, but thats another story. :yikes PS I have photos taken from the top but havent a clue how to post them on here. :que

Jay Trip the easiest way is to upload them in to the HT Media Gallery then just copy the BB Code from the picture page in to your post and your picture will appear in the post like this one of El Djem, the bonus is that anybody can easily look at your gallery by simply clicking on the blue 'View My Media' under your avatar, try clicking on the one under my details on the left :tup

Your mention of cemeteries Jay Trip got me thinking, does anybody else go and wander around a cemetery while on holiday? I seem to find myself drawn to them :think

This is one in Monastir

I've been to one in Sousse to pay my respects to the mother of a friend. The most fascinating one I remember was in Australia, Coober Pedy or Kalgoorlie I think but I can't remember which. Many of the graves had pictures of the deceased and most of them seemed to be Italian. Coober Pedy also had a very interesting Red Light district but that's another story. :rofl

Easier said than done Graham!
I have tried before to upload photos on here and dont know what happened.
Regarding cemeteries I also like wandering around them and the most interesting one was in Mexico on the Isle of Murjeres.
The 2 in Sousse look impressive going by Google earth and both appear to cover a large area.
Well I have managed to upload 2 photos but they have to be checked first :que
How do get them onto this page :que

Graham ,Is there anyway you can delete the last comment to my picture taken from the tower in the Kasbah?
I dont know why they are trying to sell Abercrombie to me as if I wanted such attire I would purchase it in Turkey. :rofl

Sorry Jay Trip we have nothing to do with the media gallery you will have to contact alfiesaint via the gallery website, I have also been plagued by spam comments every day since I posted my last lot of Kenya pictures :que

Having had a few days of panic with no HT, and the possibility even now that the reprieve may only be temporary, I thought I'd let you know that I'll be back in Sousse from 11th - 25th April.

I went to book my March holiday to Tunisia today and ended up booking Fueteventura. :yikes
