I know this topic has been 'done to death' before but would like an update - what's the situation like just now - we go on 13th July.

Hi,
I was in Paphos for three weeks, May - June.
I received several bites, as did my dad, daughter and hubby. Mum and son were ok.
So I bought a plug in from the local supermarket, the ones you put tablets in.
I also used insect repellent after sun in the evening, and had a quick spray of insect repellent before we went out.
Didn't get bite again!!

I love Cyprus. Been at least 15 times, came back a few weeks ago and have already booked again for the end of September this year.

BUT its the one place in the world I've been to where I always get badly bitten. The mosquito's there love me.

If you have a problem with them, that link just posted above is brilliant advice. Follow it all.!

If I were you I'd go prepared! If you wear something and there are none of the little perishers about then you haven't lost anything really.

Then again I get bitten by anything and everything in my oen back garden so am paranoid!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks everyone for comments.
That website you gave Lalalula was very informative - going to buy some Marmite tomorrow! Although I hate the stuff I'll force it down - spread VERY thinly on toast! Here's hoping it keeps me 'bite-free'! I've got the Avon Skin-so-soft dry oil, sunscreen and aftersun both with insect repellent in. Are these little mozzie machines with the tablets any good or are you just breathing in horrible chemicals all night?!

Better than chemicals, before you go out in the evening close all windows and doors, try to entice a (Misharos) Gecko into your room, this little chap will eat any sketos, when you come back from your night out all the sketos will be gone. During the day he will hide behind the furniture. He wont hurt you and he's very helpful.

AAARGH! Don't know 'bout that Lalalula! Anything that crawls or flies is a big NO NO to me so don't think I could entice that in!! I'd spend all night awake worrying about that in my room instead of mozzies!!

I can understand that, was just a thought, I like one about the place to keep the flies down.
Sketos like light and water, so when out sit away from the lights.
When you go out turn on the sketo plug, making sure all windows etc are closed, then turn it off when you come in. I know people who have developed breathing problems sleeping with those on.
You could buy a sketo net for the bed, they are not so expensive.

Tha Avon sss dry oil didn't work for me.
Marmite is good, I love it. But take vitamin b complex (all the B's) a month before you go, or as soon as you can.
I didn't do it this year, so I got bitten.
It lets off an aroma the mozzies don't like, but no one else can smell it. try Boots, Superdrug or local chemist. And try garlic caps too.

Good luck.

Mozzies - I get attacked by anything that bites at home but when I'm away I've discovered Mosquito Milk. Its a roll on that you can buy at Boots. It smells really good and you only need about 3 stripes down your body to work. Its not an 'all over' spray or anything. Must admit I put it around my ankles and wrists as well as an extra precaution! One lot will easily last 2 of you a fortnight at least - I think its about £6 though.

It is the best stuff we've found and after many many years we are bite free ............. and for me that IS a miracle.

Can anyone who has just returned from Protaras tell me what the Mosquitos are like this year. When we went last year we went armed with Avon Woodland Fresh which we used to begin with, but we stopped halfway through the holiday as there did not seem to be any mosquitos around.

I didn't find any there in july

Me neither, not one, and didn't use any repellent either :D

Hi there,
im not sure if Paphos is near Portaras but we were in Paphos a little over a month ago and we both were very badly bitten. We live in Dubai where there are hundreds of mozzies and never get bitten. So dont know what happened in Cyprus. Would take repelant just incase.
Happy holidays,
Claire.

We were in Paphos until 27 July - didn't see any mozzies! However I think it depends where you are as some people living out nearer Coral Bay were bitten - we were in centre of Kato Paphos. We went armed with bottles of Avon Skin so soft woodland fresh - used it for a couple of nights then gave up - no mozzie bites. Someone told me September can be bad for them.
Have a great time anyway and no harm done using the Avon stuff just in case - better safe than sorry, eh?!!!
