just got back from thre conrad at 4 this morning so please excuse any mistakes, i felt i must put a quick note as all i have read has been so helpful, first off do not cancel you are about 1/2hr away from namma bay and 40 min from old sham, on the night of the bomb we were all out in these places got back 1 hr before they went off, yes it was a little worrying as that is all that was talked about for a bit, but as they say these people must not win, you are as safe there as anywhere, i would n't have come home on principle yes the gates are closed all the time and the guards are not just letting anyone in, we had to wait there to go on a trip one day and people from the hotel came down to even collect the papers that is how tight it is, service is excelent, the tipping works , but even withiout i think you would get excellent sevice, our favourate waiter was Salah you just want to mother him, the food is good and you get plenty of choose ,yes we get the tummy bugs and my son and my friends son got ear infections but again you can get them here, the parmacy has the right pills to sort you out, as for us anyway immodiam did work fine, room cleaning was also excelent, in the superor room you get bath robes and other bits and bobs, if you want them just ask your cleaner, we got everything at no extra cost, and we kept out room until 5.00 no problem and again at no cost to us, i think the tip is to ask the peolpe concerned ie cleaner and waiters etc and you will get all you want without haveing to pay any extra for it, i do agree Clare is not up to much ,seems to me she is only interested if you book trips with her, but don't rush in , you can get some of the trips from the guy on the beacch.
The weather is getting hotter by the day,40+ and rising but the sea and the coral and fishes are just the best, i have been to the Great Barriar Reef and this is better and on your door step, , plenty of beach and pool towel and chairs to sea in the sea, when you sit and look out at the ocean it is like you are in a little but of heaven, fantastice, we booked as 2 families that wanted to be together if possible and all we did was e amil the hotel 10 before we went asking to be together and in a quite area and they did, we had rooms 3163/3164 with a shared terrece, couldn't have picked better if we had chosen ourselves, ref the building work, yes it is there but no way will it disiturbe your holiday, a little bit of hammer type noise, but think of it this way, if you want to stay anywhere the place has to be built so at some time you will have to have noise for the job to be done , all in all excelent and all those of you to still go you will have a fab time and please do not worry, must catch up on some sleep now, oh by the way the AI finishes when you walk out the door and water, there is plenty at meals you just ask for what you want to keep your fridge filled, we where getting 10 small bottles at a time twice a day, and we only saw 1 ant outside the whole holiday, i think the place is very clean, you will notice there will always be someone that will winge about anything and everything, me i went for sun sea sand and to be so lazy and that is what i did, and now i must goo

Great to read your report, it has really put our minds at rest. We are going to the Conrad on 11/8/05 and I think I am beginning to look forward to it now after all the doubt
Our children are 15 and 12, is there plenty to do?
Any other tips about the hotel or things we need to know

There really is not a lot for the older kids apart from the pool games and the pool party once a week but they do seem to make there own fun ,the night time entertanment to us was terrible, terrible singer and even worse karriokie, bingo, god forbibe, but we didn't go to any of it, our choose, that really is there only downfall, but if you fill out the forms they will get there given ytime i'm sure

I agree with most of your comments(including the rep)

I'm here now and having a fantastic time! We all feel very safe and to be honest the possibility of an attack taking place hasn't entered our minds, the security is as others have said, very reassuring.

Our room is on the third floor overlooking the beach, what a beautiful beach it is
We've seen fish of all shapes, sizes and colours including lion fish under the jetty

Room is very spacious, we've got one queen size and one single bed in each room and there's plenty of room to spare.

We've eaten four meals here so far, last night's meal wasn't particularly great but I think that was due to the fact we didn't get to the dining room until 22.40 so there wasn't much to choose from.
Breakfast this morning was very nice, lunch was ok and the meal tonight was delicious.

Glad to read you had a terrific holiday at the Conrad I am rearly pleased everything went well for you,however can I just say that those people who "whinged about anything and everything"probably contributed greatly to you having such a good time.
Without harping on about what I have said in previous posts,in June,just after A/I started,water was "rationed",the building work was noisey,and did produce dust clouds,and the food was third rate to name but a few.
By us whingers complaining to the reps,management and officially thru 1st Choice I can take it that standards have improved and will, myself take some of the credit for this.
So please take on board that even negative reviews can have a positive effect.

just to say that we are all fine have been into naama bay again - no problems

hotel great beach amazing

re the building workl - you cannot hear anything !!!!!! you cannot see anything from beach or pool or restaurants

it does not disturb you one bit

maybe when dog was here the work might have disturbed you more if they were still laying the foundations as apparantly this can be more noisy

we are going to ras mohammed ( a national park area of outstanding beauty - so we are told ) tomorrow with 3 snorkelling stops and lunch and drinks included booked with the guys from the beach hut as much cheaper than with first choice ( who also say you need a visa for this trip and if you go by boat from the hotel you dont )

please dont anyone be put off from coming the hotel is fab and beach just amazing ( i already said that !!)

you are 20 mins away from naama bay by shuttle bus but far enough away to enjoy a peaceful location but near enough for the night life and shopping

off to the pool now


ps tina b and i had a wild time at the disco last night - lets just say she should be now known as dj tina !!!!!!

forgot to say - they open the pool till midnight for a pool party on a tuesday night - should please the teens who are coming out here - its pretty they cover up the lighting and have a "stage" bit where you can get out and dance in the water or out of it!! music very loud and a good time was had by my teens last week !!! they have the disco lights on and even the oldies got into it after a few vodkas!!

what i meant about the whinging was not the stuff that needed to be whinged about ,i agree if the people that went earlier than me had not moaned things would not have been so good, i meant the people that are there now that we heard moaning about the silliest things that where of no relivence to the holiday or the improvement of the hotel etc, things have definately improved and for the better

Sorry i havent been on here all weekend , i returned on friday night from the Conrad i will post a review soon as but heres a few bits of info.

We thought the Conrad was a superb hotel rooms were great , food super im a veggie and had a fab meal every day , the sea is to die for and the snorkelling was out of this world once Angela and Alan coaxed me from the egde of the jetty i was a bit scared at first but thanks to them i was quite a dab hand when i left.

The entertainement is dire but there was a few of us at nights so free booze and good company was good enough for us .
Also a tip i forgot my travel iron so asked the reception the first night and they told me to phone the room service and ask for one we just dialled 77 from the room and an iron and ironing board was delivered 5 mins later.
also dont rely on the hairdryer its like all hotel ones pretty rubbish take your own.
We were there when the attacks happened we were supposed to go that night after meeting some new people who had just arrived the day before but i still had a bit of a dodgy tummy and wanted to wait another night brfore going SO glad i was not up to it.
We did go back into Naama and still had a great holiday i wouldnt let it spoil it for anyone go and enjoy its such a brilliant place .
I would go back to the Conrad tomorrow we loved it even although its quite far from Naama the bus leaves every hour and only takes 20 mins and a taxi back its only 4-5 quid .

So glad you enjoyed the snorkelling and kept it up. Some of the piccies we took were amazing, if i ever get round to figuring out how to post them from my computer I'll put them on.

Got some good pictures of most of the fish we found just off the jetty
Bannerfish, Coronet fish, trigger fish (different types), the biggest Napolean Wrasse i have ever seen (I haven't seen many mind you !!), lionfish, stonefish, baraccuda. We have bought a new digital camera to take better piccies, just need to buy the marine housing for Christmas.

OOH I wish i was back there - only 48 weeks to go 'till we are there again !!

Are you sure that large Napoleon Wrasse wasnt me!!
I thought the snorkelling from the conrad jetty was brilliant didnt bother doing the diving afterall i saw enough from there . I hope to return to the conrad next year i loved it maybe dive next time .
