Hi everyone
My travel agent rang me this morning to say that they had received a letter from first choice about the building work that is going on at the conrad.
They are building a new block of rooms (as we already knew ) and the date for completion is november.
they said " first choice has lots of customers arriving weekly into this hotel, and the building work has not stopped them having a fabulous holiday"
they gave a number to ring at the bottom of the letter for us to " receive regular updates "
my travel agent rang the number and was told that the noise level is a 3.
i asked what the grades are and they are 1 to 5 ( 5 being the highest )
the letter arrived this morning (tues) and we are going this thursday
doesnt give us much time to change accomodation even if they offered us a choice to move !!!
all they have said is that if we are unhappy when we are in resort they will try to find us alternative accomodation.
me thinks it will all be full !!!!
all things considered ( cases being packed and all !!) we have to go and hope that it isnt that bad !!
heres hoping !!
We received a letter this morning from FC about the building work, wasn't a surprise of course as we've all known about it on HT for weeks now
We were offered a change of hotel when we got to the Conrad by Ash the rep, but, the alternative accomodation had,nt got such a good beach front location for snorkling etc.and the entertainment was worse[impossible]
The only thing in its favour was the food was suposedly better..........................
Sorry can,t rem.name of other hotel.Ash told me the building work was classed as 1 in June so if its now a 3 I just hope its F/C covering there backsides.
good luck.....................
I am more concerned with the lack of communication that I am recieving from FC with reference to building work at the Conrad. Whenever we ask at out local shop, they never know anything and if we show them a print out from the web they look at us with dismay. I am going to wait until I go and then decide the level of inconvenience from there. If it's minimal, or non-existant, then great. If it's high and ruins my holiday I shall kick up a fuss. Ultimately, with 10 people in my group, I don't expect they will be able to find us alternative accommodation in the resort. Truly, I am hoping it will not be an issue.
Anyways, I'm logging off now...got to get my clothes on...apparently I'm off to Egypt in 9.5 hours, Bye.
Just arrived home to not so sunny Scotland and I am a wee bit tired. I will do a full review when I've had forty winks, but I've got a few bits of info for you.
Pippy, Debs says don't bother with a taxi (she has forgotten her sign on details) I agree, the chaps at the airport must have gotten their act together, as I was expecting mayhem, but it wasn't. Landed about 7ish, in the hotel by 8ish.
The whole visa drama seems to be sorted now as they tell you on the airplane what to do/or not to do.
Building work - we got a letter before we left advising us, but only heard a wee bit of noise on my last day at the poolside in the afternoon when there was no music or activities on. I would have normally been asleep in my room (like almost everyone else) at this time approx 2pm.
Even so, the hotel is superb and no noise could be heard at the beach. The reef there is too good to miss. I wouldn't have changed hotels if it had been offered; we were not inconvenienced at all.
MrsMac
Thanks ever so much Mrs Mac I'm looking forward to reading your review!
Just back from the Conrad and had a fantastic holiday! Met all the regulars from here! Like Mrs Mac i'm also a bit tired so will post a full review later Oh and Pippy - no tummy upsets for me or my partner - woohoo but we stayed away from salads and fruit so maybe that's why? All that worrying for nothing Hope you have as great a holiday as I did:-)
Glad you made it back ok. very tired also. Will also post a review when i get my head together.
Pippy, we had a great time and to reinforce what Lee said, we did not hear any building work. everyone was so helpful and we cannot fathom out what all the fuss is about. the food is good although i had a dodgy tummy however it certainly did not stop me getting out and about and enjoying myself. will write later

we paid extra for a sea view room and we have to say that we are dissapointed with the view as we are on the ground floor and cannot see the sea much !!!
we did complain to the rep ( clare ) and she is useless so we asked at reception and they were full so we could not be moved for at least a week so we decided to unpack and stay in the rooms we got and will be complaining when we get back - hopefully have our upgrade refunded!!
we did go into naama bay last night passed by the hotel that was bombed - its all screened off and there is not much to see to upset people - naama bay itself is ok - had pizza hut and did some haggling - got some lovely jewellery!!
the people were friendly saying " we are united against terrorism " and " welcome our english friends "
we went into town in the middle of the peace protests and didnt realise that that was going on !!
hope that you are not too worried and are looking foreward to your hols
it is very hot here but with a lovely breeze
the sea is amazing theres so many fish and the water is so clear !!
the only thing i know about the superior rooms is that i think someone here has one and they werent too impressed with the tea and coffee making facilities but i dont know much more
you will have a lovely time
the food is nice
it was mexican saturday night and its italian tonight
cant think of much more to say now so see you when you get here !!
forgot to say - dont forget to bring your duty free as the spirits are very weak !!
Thanks for your update - but I know there are quite a few families wondering 'should we go' or 'should we stay at home' after the awful happenings in Sharm !!
What is the general feeling around the Conrad at the moment ??

I'm looking forward to Thursday!
I've got to ask this.....
How close to the entrance is the road? How easy would it be for someone to drive into the building? Are there barriers between the road and the entrance? Are there security guards at the main entrance?
Philippa
Hi Phillipa, dont worry about security at the hotel. There is s barrier hundreds of yards down the road. They check everyone in and out. Even taxi drivers have to leave their card and pick it up when leaving. It is especially safe. President Mubarek came to conrad when we were there. No worries...
There's a rather nervous 14 year old in our party who really wants to come but is understandably a little unsure of what to expect.
Pippy, l went to four hotels while we were there and security at the conrad was the best. There is a scanner at the front door as well as security. They make most walk through it. Just like the airport jobbies. Great for your party to take the worries away.
do you know if coral sea resort has sercurity like its sister hotel conrad
We are off to the Coral Sea Resort, 10 - 15 mins from Sharm, with a 16, 14 and 12 Year old on Thursday the 28th. We are determined to go and although a little concerned I am sure we will be fine. We are more worried that there wont be enough other kids in the hotel for ours to team up with if people decide not to go. Come on everyone! We have been to Sharm before and it was great,. Who else is going? If you decide to join us I know you will have a great time. Dont let them win, lets show them!!!
