Hiya

Anyone know if I can take Euros to Tunisia? My mum is going out at end Sept and we are goping at beginning, she bought some for herself and then offered to me as she has more time to get more. I have bought them and see on here everyone is talking about sterling and cheques but no Euros. Please help :?

You could - but very few places (if any in some resorts) accept Euro & can work out expensive compared the Tunisian Dinar.
You are far better to take traveller cheques or cash :)

Be warned though PaulyG - some ATM machines can charge you up
to double the amount you withdraw - got caught out with that once, :omg hence I don't use card unless desperate!!

We took a few sterling TC but mostly cash as we thought a lot of commission would be taken from the TC but our hotel did not charge any commission at all for either the TC's or Cash.

thanks for your reply I have contacted her and she is going to change them back (works in bank so perks of job!) no charge.

Will arrange travellers cheques.

thankyou!

I travelled to Yasmine in April and took euros, as did everyone else on our tour (Spanish tour!!). We had no trouble changing them to Dinars in the hotel, or when we were on the Sahara tour. I think because Italy is their closest neighbour they are well used to euros now.

And the Duty Free at Monistir airport is priced up in Euros and if you have Euros to pay for your purchases you won't get stung by the exchange rates that some credit card companies then charge! I would suggest that now that your Aunt has them she doesn't lose out even further by changing them back again.

You can certainly spend your Dinars in the airport shop BEFORE you go through passport control at Monastir (I can only remember one small, expensive gift shop near the check in desks- but perhaps other, more observant, members can tell you of others).

However, air - side this may be a different matter - there are quite a few nice shops and cafes but I can only recall seeing prices in Euros - but again someone else with a better memory than me, may enlighten you otherwise.

Theres a small gift shop and coffee shop in the check in area that do take dinar.

Officially you can not take dinar airside.

The duty free shop is priced in Euros (seeing as the majoriety of visitors come from countries that use Euros this makes sense) but there are loads of staff who are able to tell you the price in stirling, The easy conversion is 10 euros = £7.But you dont need euros to buy, stirling is good as are dollars. You can not spend dinar here.

Airside there is also a cafe. Prices are marked in dinar yet they dont take them, makes for confusion and its easy to be ripped off (as it seems to be the case in many an airport) Knowing how expensive the airport is we take out own drinks but the ladies we were sharing a table with were buying with the euros they had got back in exchange if their dinar and getting euros back as change.

hey, thanks for all the help in my previous posts its been great! just wondering about money and stuff. I know all about dinar millimes and stuff just wanted to kow how much will i need to take? For a few activities, pressies, refreshments (not meals) and stuff like that do you think about 300 dinar is enough to get me through the week? my mum is paying for other stuff. what do u reckon?

Please do not use phone text in the forum, further posts in this way may be deleted thanks Briar.

Hi, I am off to Tunisia for Christmas, for the first time. I am a little confused about which currency to take. There seems to be preference for US Dollars and Euros on some sites, and Sterling appears to be ok to. Also is there any difference with using travellers cheques compared to using cash.

Would welcome any advice.

Take whatever currency is native to your country - British = stirling, American = dollars. There is no point in paying double commission in changing currency twice :)

we took sterling...and as the rate is the same every where you change your money..you'll have no problem.
You can't bring dinar out of tunisia..so only change as much you need.....we were amazed how little we spent by doing this to .

Have a fab holiday.
Where are you staying?

We are staying in Yasmine Hammamet, the Hotel Bahia Beach - havent found any real reviews of this hotel so I am hoping all will be fine

we are going to Tunisia in 4 weeks time , it will be our first time there, which is the best currency to take?
We went to Turkey last year and they were excepting euros, pounds, dollars as well as their own liras

Hi, just take our own currency and change it there as and when you need it. It is very cheap in Tunisia and remember you cant take it back with you as its a closed currency. There are also plenty of ATM machines that all give you the same rate of exchange and most of the hotels will also change money for you.
