Yes I emailed reservations but have not received a reply either. I don't think we should worry too much though - how much time do you actually spend in a room and it's not as though it's a massive building they are working on (I hope!)

Good idea about the key though!

Just had my holiday cancelled in Cuba now looking at Margarita, trouble is we always go for 3 weeks is there enough to do there?

You wont be able to goto Margarita for 3 weeks, either 2/4 weeks. It's a fantastic place, well worth the visit!!

Hi :wave

As Andy says you can only go for 2 or 4 weeks, this is because the flights only operate on a fortnightly basis.

Once there you have a great choice of things to do, one of the MUST excursions is the trip to Angel Falls (Orinoco Delta) and the Canaima National park which is on mainland Venezuela. Once you are there you can also walk behind the El Sapo falls which is an amazing experience.

I have some pictures here -

There is also the Catamaran trip to Isla Coche, Horse riding, Scuba Diving, jeep safari, dozens of small villages to visit, micro light flights, shopping, fishing, a trip to the beautiful Archipielago Los Roques, nightlife (particularly around Porlamar & Playa el Agua) golf and much much more.

Hope this helps a bit

Hi I am off to Margarita next wednessday and cant wait. Can anyone tell me what you do about currency, as I went to get some yesterday and the travel agent said you cant get it and to take american dollars. They advised us this last year when going to cuba and dollars was a problem there.

What is the water temperature like there at the moment, are the pools like baths or fridges?

Can anyone tell me what time the transfer from airport to laguna mar resort will take.

Thanks for your help Karen

Take US dollars and change them at your hotel when you get there. If you book trips locally rather than with your tour operator you'll probably find they prefer dollars to bolivars any way.

We managed to get some Bolivars when we went but it would have been cheaper to take dollars and change them when we got there,

Been to MI twice now and had a great time both times.

There are 2 excursions I can recommend.

1. Overnight trip Orinoco Delta/Canaima - Best thing we've EVER done
2. Overnight trip to the small group of islands off the north coast (can't remember what they are called!!) It was beautiful.

Have never been to any of the Caribbean before and I am quiet excited to be going to Margarita next January. Has anyone stayed at Palm beach hotel? I have not seen any reviews on it. Can you use your cash cards? Is it the sort of place you can walk around safely? Are prices reasonable? what are good buys? better not ask any more questions just now! but I will be very grateful for any information. thanks in advance Jude

Hi

Not sure which part you hotel is but I think all is pretty much the same.
We were told by rep not to go off wandering and if getting a taxi, order it from the hotel and agree a time for it to pick you up. She also said dont wear jewelry as she can guarentee you wont come back with it. Absolute Nonsense!!! We got a taxi to the market and did not feel intimidated at all. The taxi coming back was in a better state than the one we ordered from the hotel to take us, we didnt ask it to come back at a set time as not sure how long we were going to be and saw there was a taxi rank full of cars.

We took the trimaran trip with captain carlos to coche island and it was worth every penny.

Spoke to guest services guy in the hotel who said we could hire his friend with a car for £5 per hour. He took us shopping in juan Greigo carrying our bags and then to the viewing point to see the sunset.

Sea is warm but rough ok for wave jumping. pools were like baths.

Pearls are a good buy and I think there is a trip that goes to the pearl shop.

Take really strong factor sun cream as it is very strong. I usually use factor 8 when I go away but had to buy factor 30 out there.

I am sure you will have a good time.

Hi Karen thanks so much for the info this is such a different holiday for us we have never done all inclusive or the caribbean. Do you need to take beach towels? and what sort of money arangement do you use? in goa we found the Nationwide cash card a great asset. I never wear much jewelry on holiday anyway. thanks again Jude

Hi Jude,

We didn't need beach towels but I think it is down to the individual hotel.
We took sterling but found we would have got a better rate if we had taken US dollars.
Never used any cashcards so cant help there. Did pay the rep for excursion with credit card and that was ok.

We stayed at Dunes Hotel in September 2002. Went for my husband's 50th birthday. We wouldn't class it as the best holiday we've ever had, but it was fine. The staff were nice enough, the room was adequate, and the food was satisfactory.
We were told that the weather is more or less the same all year round. Very hot!
We went into the main city a couple of times, and that was a nice change, and we took a jeep island trip which was also good. People that went on the Angel Falls trip were disappointed, as it was only a trickle of water!
The poverty is pretty bad, and hits home when you drive past the outskirts of towns and see one room shacks made from cardboard boxes. We also found the litter was pretty bad.

Very surprised at that, as everybody that has commented both on here and in MI say that trip has been the highlight of their holiday, I also include myself in that.

The trip to Angel Falls is not to be missed if you get the chance.

It depends what time of year it is (re: the trickle of water) Here's a picture that I took as we flew past. This was is November 2003.

I don't think you can quite appreciate how high it is unless you see it for real.

Hi all
:?: Can anyone help with information about internet availability at this hotel (particularly wifi).
I have tried First Choice but they have not got the information for me yet.
Also we have heard that the Angel Falls trip is a must but we would prefer to fly there and back in the day as walking a long distance is not our thing.
Any one have any info on that please.
Are USD still best currency to take?
We are going for 2 weeks from Gatwick Aug 4th. Is anyone else going at the same time?

Have a good holiday wherever you are going this year :D

Welcome to HT Pedro! :wave

I've had a quick look on the hotel's website and could see no mention of internet availability. There is however a link to contact the hotel, you may have more luck with them than with First Choice!

Have a look through the reviews http://www.holidaytruths.co.uk/reviews/caribbean/venezuela/margarita-island/lti-costa-caribe-beach-hotel/to see if anyone mentions it.

When I visited this hotel in Sept 2005 there was a internet available in a small room just off the reception area.
You can do the Angel Falls trip in a day, I did the two day trip and it was fantastic.
USDs are the best currency to take most major shops accept them and you can change them for the local currency at reception of your hotel.

Hello Pedro1945 :wave

There is internet access at the hotel, it is very slow and liable to be down at times.
There is no WiFi available.
The Angel Falls trip is a must :wow

On the day trip you will fly from MI to the Canaima national park in Venezuela, flying past the Angel Falls a couple of times for pictures.
When you arrive in Canaima you will be taken on a small boat out on to Laguna De Canaima where you will pass several falls before reaching the far side.
On the other side you will then take an easy(ish) walk for about 20 minutes or so until you reach the lovely El Sapo falls.
At the falls you get the chance (if you wish) to walk behind them, an amazing experience.
You are then taken up to the top of the falls where you get stunning views across the planes where some of Jurassic Park was filmed.

The trip although not the cheapest is well worth the money paid, I would recommend booking as soon as you can as there is limited space and it fills quickly.

Here is a link for some of my pictures of the hotel and also the day trip to Canaima -

I am sure you will love it.
