Apple5, so very pleased to hear your news and hope that as soon as your money turns up you will be booking another holiday.

I would be grateful for any help you can give me getting this blessed crime number. I tried the phone number on the letter we were sent, and nobody seemed to know anything about it or who I should speak to. I got transferred to Scotland yard who were very helpful and actually tracked down the name of the DC dealing with this, but I haven't been able to get hold of him and he has not called me back despite the operator leaving messages for him.

Feeling frustrated and out of sheer desperation I contacted my debit card services yesterday, who, to my amazement seem to think they can reimburse me and they will pursue the claim. A claim form arrived today and they have asked for copies of all documentation so far. I paid with a debit card not a credit card, but it seems that I can make a claim under 'non receipt of goods'. In view of your good news today however not sure which is the best route to take.

Ezy quoted ridiculously high charges to pay by credit card (I wonder why!)but I will certainly consider it in future - hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Anyway really pleased that things seem to be moving at last.

If you've recieved a letter today from the Metropolitan Police Crime Management Unit your crime ref number is shown as their ref located at the top lefthand side of the letter.

Lets just hope it all runs smoothly from here on.

Thanks for the info re the Debit card, I thought that was a no-hoper but its good to know we have something else to try if the TTA claim fails.

Good luck.

I haven't been able to speak to anyone yet who is prepared to let me report the crime over the phone, so they don't have my details to be able to send me a letter, so no nearer to getting a crime number. Just kept going round in circles being passed from one police department to another. Do you have a more direct phone number on your letter heading that I could try or the name of an officer who is dealing with it?

Thanks

Kathy

On closer inspection this letter has come from the Met.Police Service at Plaistow Police Station, then underneath where it says " Yours sincerely " ( un signed )
it says Crime Management Unit
Forest Green Police Station

Very confusing.....!

The phone number given is 020 7275 5711 open 8 till 8 weekdays , 8 till 4 at weekends , NO contact name given.

Hope this helps you , let me know how you get on.

Hi Apple5 and Kathyblue,

Just spoken to Avril Dwane at TTA and they had a meeting with the police yesterday, we should all be receiving letters telling us what to do.

Kathyblue, I telephoned the police number that the letter from TTA stated and someone took my details, gave me a 'cad' reference and told me someone would ring me back that was the 2nd November and so far, I havent had a reply. Im now awaiting this letter which is supposed to be coming from the Police with instructions.

Kathyblue, good news about your debit card, I paid half of mine through debit card and the other by cheque, so not sure where I stand at the mo, but will check it out if this doesnt come through. Although the TTA did assure me that it was going to be about 2 weeks to payout. I wonder if there is a pot and we will get a share or whether we will get a full refund - something else to think about I guess.

Apple5, it will be Happy Christmas when we get our payouts!

Just picked up your PM and as I'm not allowed to reply privately thought I'd use this thread to answer.
Same position as you and reckon our two weeks is up about end of next week. Very much hoping we all get fully refunded and don't have to mess about trying to claim from Debit companies.
We'll all be relieved when it's over, just want closure on the whole episode, answers and explanations don't seem to be on the agenda.

Good luck.

Well, I suppose if we dont get a refund, theres always Watchdog on BBC1 to report it all to. They seem to dig and delve into various matters for the consumer.
Wonder how Kathyblue is getting along

well done fwh for rooting-out an address.

hate to rain on all your parades though, but, some time back I needed a crime reference number for my daughter's missing phone. I really had to hassle the local station to provide one - I mean REALLY hassle.

I then mentioned this to a mate who was a serving police office (very recently retured) and he laughed and said they would simply make-up ficticious numbers in cases like that. The insurance companies wouldn't ever find out.

With an attitude like that I'm not suprised you are all failing to get a reference number. These days most police are innumerate and hence unable to even make-up numbers.

Bring back the old days of numerate if cynical bobbies.

Well done Apple. It must be awful knowing that you are currently here when you should be in Nuwebia enjoying the sunshine and all that Egypt has to offer. :(

Getting ones money back, whilst it is a form of justice doesn't quite compensate for a missed holiday though.

Perhaps this is the end of the (sl)Ezy debarkle. Lets just hope they dont start trading under another name. All Egypt fans need to stay alert just incase.

A day for celebration - mine arrived too although the pessimist in me won't uncork the champagne until the cheque clears!

Apple5 - hope you can now book a holiday and get to enjoy the Egypt experience at last. Do let us know what you decide to do.

Thanks to everyone for their contributions - good to have a bit of support when something like this happens.

Hi Apple5 and Kathyblue,

Hurrah, I received my cheque for £908.00 today as well.

And so ends the saga of Sleazy. Although I was told by the police last week when I was still chasing a crime number that it involved hundreds of people and the fraud squad were dealing with it.

Apple5, Hope it isnt too late to book a holiday for you, there are some good deals before Christmas

Kathyblue, guess you now have the monies for that Easter holiday you were talking about, so get booking and will see you then.

Looking at the possibilities of 2 weeks out at the CH before Christmas and are negotiating prices and possibilities of taking our grandson .
does seem rather unfair to have to pay full price for a little tot rising 5, then theres the school thing.
Giving ourselves another set of problems.......

Not been out there since January so a top up pre Christmas sounds good.
