Hello
You all seem to know so much about Bitez, I was after a bit of advice. We are thinking of booking to go to the Makumba Summer Hotel, in the Thomas Cook brochure, it said that it was very close to the beach and some of the restaurants, but it said that the main nightlife was 2.6km away. Is this Gumbet? We didn't want to book if it was really far away from the bars and restaurants of Bitez?
Is it close to the bars and restaurants of Bitez? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
I am also looking for accomodation in Bitez. Flights are booked. I have my eye on the Smallworld hotel as we like small places to stay anyone know if they have fridges in the rooms.
I have been reading the reviews on the Manuela and tried to get on their website today to look at their prices, but doesn't seem to be working at the moment .
The Makumba is very close to the beach and restaurants - you are quite right that the nearest 'nightlife' ie clubs etc is in Gumbet.
We stayed at the Smallworld last year. It is lovely and quiet - but no fridge in the room. I have to say it is a very laid back and welcoming place.
Hope this helps. If you need any further info - just ask, someone here will know.
you are right in thinking that the "nightlife" 2.6 kms away is either gumbet or bodrum.
However you are just a couple of minutes away from the bars and restaurants of bitez.
Just so that other bitez regulars can double check with me, the makumba summer hotel is the one between Vona restaurant and blue moon hairdressers, heading up towards red dragon.............yes?

Would prefer a room with a fridge, we usually go self catering, but does not seem to be a lot of choice DIY either the Paloma or Makumba Summer apartments. I did find a website for the Sirca and have emailed them, but have heard nothing back.
As Briar said might take a look at the Manuela as they have a fridge and tea and coffee making facilities in the room.
Decisions, Decisions
Thanks Briar will look into it.
Hope you are well - keep meaning to send you photos from last year. Will pm you when I work out how to do it.
Just to let all regular Bitez people know - I left THE HAT behind last year!! Will have to find a new one
How will anyone recognise you now Prawn.
Think I will just have to wear a big sign saying "I am the lady with the big hat"!!!
"I'm the lady who HAD a big hat"
Hi, Marn. No, left it on purpose. I figured that 3 years was long enough for any hat and it was beginning to look the worse for wear! At least with going later I have chance to replace it in the sales. I might even go mad and replace the beach pyjamas as well! Maybe not - don't want to be totally inconspicuous
What I'd like to know is, staying at the Kassandra, where are you going to go for your morning walk? The harbour is only a couple of steps away. Will you walk to the Bitez Han end?
Yes, will have to change the whole geography of our mornings. Walk, maybe, to the other end - up the hill (although it is not the same now they have started building there) and then stop at Poyraz for a couple of hours on the bean bags! Think I can just about manage that. Actually made it as far as Bitez village last year - but not promising to do it again.
Well, we got the dolmus to Bitez - you could get one direct at that time - then we walked from Bitez to Gumbet, had a bite to eat and a drink or two at a restaurant on the beach, then walked from Gumbet into Bodrum where we caught the dolmus back to Yalikavak.
Don't think I could do it now. On the walk into gumbet there was hardly a building in sight. Can't say that about it now. That's progress for you.
LOL Marn.
Marn - which way do you go to walk to Gumbet from Bitez? Was thinking of doing it last year but the brain (such as it is) couldn't work out which direction I was going in. Do I go along by the Makumba, turn right at the T junction and head that way? May do it this year as I will have time to get it wrong a couple of times.
The road we took ended on the beach in Gumbet. But that will be all built up by now.
If you do manage to do it, let me know.
Love to SIR.
Marn.
Hi, Marn. We originally hoped that the path past the harbour would go all around the headland and finish in Gumbet but either it doesn't or we were really whimpy and turned back too soon. Will try to find a way over there this year. It would be interesting to actually look at the place properly rather than just from a car or coach. Also planning on a couple more trips along the peninsula - done Turgetreis, Yashi and Gumusluk so will have to steer 'Sir' to maybe Torba and Yalikavak.
We tried that path past the harbour to no avail. You have to go Up and Over the hill. Whichever road it is.
We did Turgetries and Yalikavak last year (day trips on the dolmus) Would like to see Torba next May when we're in Gumbet.
Does ' Sir' take much steering?
Did you enjoy Summer Garden?
Not if you know the right buttons to push - like 'I have heard that they have some great restaurants' or 'Somebody on HT said it is really worth a look'. To be honest, it is easier now that they are doing so much building work around Bitez. Have to say, though, that I have never known him to be as switched off as he was last year. I even had to take a photo of him lying on a bean bag because I knew that no-one at home would believe it. He is not usually given to lying in the sun with a book and a cold efes!
