You might not need it ask your doctors surgery they can tell you over the phone if you do or not
Hi, i'm going to egypt in a week and i haven't had any injections.
Would nt bother with Hep B. Very low - practically zero -risk. Hep A and Tetanus are usually the more recommended ones.
i had all the injections offered...

Swiss in the UK the General Practictioners surgery has a list of recommended injections for each part of the world (I'm a nurse for my sins - so I know)
So if the Doc says have it it's best to have it
Because of MY profession I got the lot given to me (by a sadistic practise nurse who stuck nedles in both my arms AND my legs as well as the Oral Polio stuff all at the same time --- I'll get my own back one day) as ANY chance for me was one chance too many and could cause me to loose my job as being potentially infective
Should anything go wrong and you be unlucky enough to catch something you could have been immunised against, insurance companies may be difficult about paying out claims for medical expenses as you have not done all you could to protect yourself.
I told the GP i wanted everything including the malaria injection, i am not taking any chances at all
I am going to Egypt in 2 weeks i was advised that i did not need the vaccinations for Sharm but have started to worry... can anyone confirm that it is ok to go without vaccinations please?
The hepatitis one is in two parts, and i had to have mine several weeks apart, some may vary this. Tetanus used to be every 10 years, but my mum says now it is 20 years so not sure on that one.
If you have not had any injections, then it is recommended, but at this stage with two weeks to go, it will be up to your own GP if there is enough time. Some people have to pay, but mine were free.
Can someone please let me know if we have to have any jabs. Have one week sailing on Thomson Celebration and one week at Sharm. Any recent reviews of these would be much appreciated.
His advice was that case's are pretty rare BUT none of the above are worth the risk of a simple 5min in the nurses office. And like most mine where totally free.
We were given the same hep a and typhoid, plus polio, tetanus and diptheria, we are going back to doctors in January to have hep a booster to cover us for 10 years, my two children also had hep a and typhoid we had to pay for just mine and husbands injection(hep a and typhoid) but it is one jab so only cost the price of a perscription and i would rather be safe than sorry, none of us had any side affects after them. Hope this helps
I have been to my doctors recently and he recommended the standard immunisation for Egypt, these being the following :-
tetanus; hepatitis A; poliomyelitis; typhoid; diphtheria
Sharm is not considered as a Malaria zone so nothing to do with this was recommended.
Funny thing is my girlfriends doctor has not recommended any immunisations for the trip to Egypt (by the way she is not covered for any of these from previous jabs).
I was interested to get other peoples opinions on what their GP's have recommended and more importantly what they have decided to do regarding have the immunisations or not?!
thanks
Apart from the Herp A they are recommended in the UK too - just have them...
I would just like opinions from people that have been to Sharm, what they decided to do, what do other people think?
There's some info
Is this really necessary..? will the drugs work immediately.
We had injections same time last year when we went to jamaica but never went back for boosters..wont we still be covered by these jabs.
Shoulda had the boosters, then you would be covered for 3, 5, 10 years - depending on the particular innoculation. Now you may need to start again all-over.
The jabs recommended for Egypt are only those that are usually recommended wherever you go, or even for here at home, tetanus, DTP etc. Tendency is to keep kids up-to-date on these but adults let them slip; hence the youngster needs less now...
You'll get some immediate benefit, though not the full one - personally I'd get them done, have the boosters when you get home and then not have to worry for the next few years.
However , it is a bit close to going and a sore arm or bad reaction could spoil the holiday and if you are going to one of the major resorts/big hotels then Egypt is, on the whole, pretty safe - ask the GP...
Having had them last year (without boosters) would be just about the same. You should have had the boosters at the appropriate time to give you 3 or 10 yrs protection according to vaccine.
