Further reports in the Indian press on this saga. On Monday 8 crew members that had been left on board by the last salvage company, Jaisu Shipping, who were in dispute with the goverment, asked to be removed from the vessel, as a further cracks and holes had appeared, and they thought she was starting to break up. The goverment say their is no danger of this, however the new salvage company, Titan of Singapore, are going to do their own survey before commencing work, and say that if the terms of the contract needs changed because of this new development, that will be up to their head office in Singapore. Looks like we are coming to the end game here , as, one way or another, it looks like the old girls days are numbered, andt his monsoon season may be the last one for her.

I'm sure thats what the goverment and owners wish too, but I'm afraid that the breaking up of the Princess is accelerating, and it looks like the end is finally in site, for this sorry saga

I do not know if any of you saw the programme about the removeal of a container ship from a beach in Cornwall. It took Smit a renowned Dutch salvage company two and one half years to remove the vessel. They to use explosives to cut the intercostal girders inorder to split the ship and tow the bow section away for breaking up. The accommodation superstructer was then removed piece by piece. The propeller was blown off and recovered seperately. The final lift was the main engine.
It looks like the Princess will be there for some time yet.

Its heart breaking to see the state of the beach up there especially for those of us who can remember how the beach was in the days before the Princess

What a sad sight the once beautiful beach now looks a real mess ,Can anybody say where the picture was taken from? we stay at the Sinquerim end of the beach but we don't recognise the concrete steps and metal handrail. We wondered if it was near to the Taj.

I don't recognise the steps either.
It does look like it's close to Fort Aguarda from the buildings towards the top right hand side of the photo.
It's exposed a whole black reef that never used to be there before.
Very sad.
I wonder (with hindsight) the Goan tourist authorities wished they'd done something about the River Princess some years ago.

There was a picture in the TOI last week showing that the lifeguard tower on Candolim beach was within 5 metres of falling into the sea.I can't see there being much left of this beach in a couple of years time.
