Alan, interesting to hear about the ship breaking company - I really shouldn't be surprised by your findings. The position of the RP certainly complicates the ship breaking process and whilst I've no knowledge of ship breaking, my engineering background makes me sceptical of the job being completed before the onset of the next monsoon.
Given that the lowest bidder was chosen for the job it would be interesting to see details of the technical bid to see if there are any obvious shortcomings in the bid. Given the state of governance in Goa it's hard to imagine there aren't any.
Steve
I'd be interested to hear what you engineers think of the method they propose to use, it says in the article that they've handled bigger ships than the RP - but doesn't mention if those had been in situ for 10 years.

Also the company who's got the contract, it now appears that they need access to the beach, so it seems my concerns re further pollution and damage to the beach was well founded.
Alan
Seems they now say they can't get the work done in accordance with the agreed schedule - not surprising perhaps as they still haven't issued the order for the work to commence.
The newly announced requirement for beach access may well lead to further challenges and delays one suspects.
As for the engineering efficacy of the proposed method of removing the RP - it sounds reasonable enough but the details published in the press are too generalised to give any real indications. The devil will be in the detail of how the wreck is to be accessed, deploying of lifting gear, controlling pollution and disturbance to the waters around - there's plenty of scope for problems if things are not planned and executed properly.
Steve
It just never ends.
Why has it taken so long to realise this issue about customs duty though?
Alan
another person killed yesterday at Calangute by a banana boat
That's shocking - although I'm not surprised as there is just NO attempt to keep boats/jetskis and people segregated.
I couldn't believe that people were swimming in the sea with boats zipping past them so closely.
Sorry
As for the shark , it was a big big fish , a shame to see it lying on the slab , it was sold to one of the big hotels .
I cant remember if the Tiger Shark attacks humans , but it looked a dangerous creature.
Local fisherman caught a 14ft Tiger Shark , 200m off the coast at candolim , near to the River Princess ,last night.
Wow!
Just googled 'Tiger shark' and it does say they attack humans.
"While the tiger shark is considered to be one of the sharks most dangerous to humans, the attack rate is surprisingly low according to researchers. The tiger is second on the list of number of recorded attacks on humans, with the great white shark being first. They often visit shallow reefs, harbours and canals, creating the potential for encounter with humans.
Tiger sharks are considered a near threatened species due to excessive finning and fishing by humans."
On a similar subject, we used to see dolphins in that area but this year sadly we didn't.
Are these sharks following me around, firstly we were there with the sharks in Egypt now going to GOA and the beautiful species are also around

Most of the restaurants are selling Baby Shark now. These things are only 12 inch long miniatures, you can see them displayed in some places. If they continue to catch them at this size there will be none left to breed in the future. Don't order it and you might help.
Sharks are everywere in goa lots are driving taxi's
A number of workers arrived on Thursday and are staying in our guesthouse and they are organising dormitary accomodation for an expected 300 workers.
OK? Watch this space....
Yes and i was told there all expected to be here by April the first
