Spike,
Not sure it can ever recover. It would take a massive effort from the Goan government to repair the damage. I cannot see they will want to do it bearing in mind there will be no money to be made.
The big thing of course is can they remove all of the RP. I doubt it and if not the tidal conditions that have caused the current situation will still exist.
I am sure I am not the only one who forsees yet another monumental Indian F****P.
My guess is what you can see will get removed and anything that presents even the slightest engineering challenge will be covered up in true Indian fashion.
Have to feel for all the people along that stretch of coast who have struggled on over the years to run businesses and now are faced with yet another farce.
Tragedy does not even begin to describe it.
I truly admire their fortitude.
Papa
get real if it wasnt for some of the 10 shacks we wount be back to goa dont care about the RP as long as the fishing is good and the fireworks roll on March xxxxxxxx
I'm going to be uncharacteristically diplomatic and just beg to differ.
An Interesting Report

Having read this report , I personally think that ,in the interests of ones own safety , I will not be going within a mile of the RP breaking site.

Here is the latest news report on the RP.

So the equipment is all on site and the bad weather starts at the end of February. That would be a very early monsoon!!!!

The RP is going no where every year the same old same old and then cancelled at the last minute The monsoon will demolish the boat along with the rest of the beach The truth is its taking a little longer than the goverment thought but slowly year by year it is finally showing signs of breaking up Just what the goverment are waiting for

So where is the conclusion of that previous report? did I miss it? statistics and nothing more! We all know that this means nothing(Heraldo report) The only thing that means SOMETHING to the people of Goa is that is IS REMOVED - frustrated..............as usual
fizzy2 / papa -- The Report that I posted , is not Specific to the RP , it is a generallity produced by the ILO , re the problems of ship breaking .
And after reading , I came to a personal conclusion that the disruption and displacement that will be required to break & remove the RP will be far greater than is currently being touted .
Also some of the potential problems , if not managed properly , could have pretty Lethal consequences if they ever came to fruition.
1 example -- Storage of the vast amounts of Gas that will be required for Cutting & Burning of Steel -- where do we think this will be stored , and under what conditions/security ?

34 pages and we are all going over the same ground. Says it all.
Does anyone realise that it was 6 years ago today when the first post in this thread was made?
Happy Birthday

It's no conincident that the ILO report posted by Mahal lists the top three countries involved in shipbreaking as India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. Although the report mentioned is ten years out of date nothing has changed since then. The only safe secure way to go about shipbreaking, is in a drydock in secure conditions. Unfortunatley this then escalates the costs to such an extent that it comes completly unprofitable. In any case ships such as this one, have to be tackled where they are. I've been banging on here for years about the disaster about to happen on Goas beaches, and it's sadly about to go ahead.
I'ts a huge problem worldwide and up till now no solution has bee found, so I'm afraid that what is about to happen here is just a very small part of a worldwide problem.

Thanks Goonerfan. This looks like a lot of fun - dodging shrapnel on your sunbed.
I guess the work has to be done and it can't be done in the monsoon season so I'll take my overalls and crash helmet just in case!
and don't forget your flak jacket too Roma
Yes, thanks Fizzy. I always wear that when I'm with the wife anyway!
Is anyone out there at present that can post if there is any sign of work actualy starting yet ? With the monsoon limiting work by the end of May or so, it seems as if the ongoing delay in starting must surely be more than the usual Indian love of paperwork. It looks more and more that there's still delaying tactics going one behind the scenes for whatever reason.

Checking round reports from other sites, they are going to start after the season has finished, Ganesh shack says all will be fine 'till then. Others are saying they are starting soon ?
I just hope we can get our 2 weeks in without disruption, but as for next season..

There is no work happening at the moment on the ship and no signs of any preperation work on the road leading down to the beach.
Obviously it has to be done/needs to be done sometime soon but pleeeease is it to selfish to plead not while we there??
Heraldo said during our recent trip that the break up had to still be approved by a myriad of different departments. So don't hold your breath as I don't think she will be going anytime soon! The beach is just going so fast - was amazed at how bad it was by Bobby's and Spotty's shack - not good. Hubbie said will take years for beach to return to normal even when she is removed!
