we arrive in 14 days. 1st timers and were looking forward to the new experience,,hope we,re not going to be dissapionted or it will be back to thialand next year
The food in Thailand is far superior with a much wider choice of CLEAN restaurants.
As for the Goa taxis...well i think you'll probably realise for yourself after a few days what a rip off they are.
In Thailand you can use taxis with a meter which are very cheap, baht bus for 10 baht a journey in resorts like Pattaya or motorbike taxi for 40/50/60 baht most journey's.
Without going off topic in resorts like Koh samui the beach shacks are up and running.
I think if i had a holiday booked in Goa at the moment i would be asking for my money back....seriously..no beach shacks..no night market..it's a sham!

Yes I went at this time last year and beach shacks were just going up. It shouldn't be getting worse!!
There was word of Mackies Market up and running on Nov 7th but the taxi lads are saying NO there are not enough people here to make it worth their while to open it.
Friends came on Tuesday and staying in a B and B and are very bored - they love the beach shack life from 8 in the morning until sundown, back home for a drink and out for a meal but that is not here at the moment, honestly.
Goan Tourism is hanging themselves.
Had a few beers with a friend last night who raved about KS... looks good. Looking for a change from Goa... will miss curry... but I can cook one up anyway. Getting a touch excited!
You'll be ok on the "thai green curry" Neil!
Done most of the tourist things in Goa and beyond these past twenty years or so, now we tend to settle in at the beach shacks and meet old friends. My wife has had one total knee replacement and is due the other one done shortly, consequently lying on the sand is'nt an option for her. We usually go to Thailand or other Far East spots in Summer but until now have stayed faithfull to Goa, but this annual nonsense with shacks could well be the last straw for us. Even when they are up there's the distinct possiblity that sometime or other they may decide on taking the sunbeds away, or as a special treat, allow you to see how to knock down a shack ! I'm afraid my patience with Goa's disgracefull treatment of it's lifeblood, the tourists, is wearing thin Alan
Maybe an AI at a seafront hotel is the answer, but that won't be cheap!....or a picnic but thats not really the same is it.
Will check the papers tomorrow keep you up to date.
Got to agree Gramps. We go in two weeks and this is really winding me up.I have no faith it will be sorted out at tomorrows meeting.
Another shack meeting that ended in stalemate today, they are meeting again on Monday to try to finalise once and for all, but even if no more delays, owners are not hopeful that they would be open for business until towards the end of November, first thet have to construct the shacks takes about a week, then apply for other licenses like electricity and alcohol etc.
Mid-december...nearlly half way through the season.
Totally unacceptable.
Could be a few dissapointed trip reports i think.
take your own drinks and food to the beach, come off the beach to the nearby restaurants or stay around the pool in the hotel.
Or will the sunbed boys leg it up to the shops for my Fosters/Kingfishers?
Possibly an opportunity for the ice cream seller to broaden his stock!
Just curious as we don't go until February and no matter how much they mess around the shacks should be up by then( I hope).
Is this just beach shacks in the main areas or are the shacks at Morjim/Ashwem etc open?
A lot of the hotels have limited space around the pool area and anyway for most people Goa is the beach and the shacks.
Will just have to hope they sort it out at Mondays meeting. Not holding my breath though.
Feel so sorry for people who have saved up all year and are already there. It will certainly make me think again about booking so early.
When will Goa get a government that puts the needs of the tourist first. After all we are its main income.
Papa
I wonder what the average Goan makes of all this.Especially if it affects their living. What with the Visas now the shacks it really is not good for business.I would be interested to hear what they think could be done to change this chaos.
Of course the shack owners will not be happy....a shorter season for them will hit "joe public" in the pocket for the months they have left.

Interested in this answer as well. Is it just the BCC stretch of beach where there is so much competition or is it affecting the likes of Colva/Cavelossim as well.
