Not sure about the shack owners being on hunger strike.Bet a fair few holidaymakers on the beach will feel a bit hungry with no shacks to retire to for lunch.

Already planning our alternatives for next week.

Sorry, been away for a few days so only just caught up.................been splitting my sides laughing at what is happening :rofl ....................maybe we should just get out there and build our own shacks..................or just organise ourselves and do our own thing.

For goodness sakes, what are they like :que Fizz

A cool box is needed Papa (weather permitting)....Build your own shack! They can't stop you putting a few chairs and umbrellas out!...Probably work out alot cheaper aswell!! :cheers Sorry Fizz, just repeated what you said really! :think

Great minds think alike Spaldy ;)

I feel very sorry for the impact this will have on so many shack owners but more so their staff, many of whom travel from all over India to earn some good money from tips/wages. It makes such a difference to most of them (and their families). Going on hunger strike (imho) isn't going to get anything done any quicker.

Whatever happens us Brits will do what we have always done, make the best of a bad job and just get on with it. (Same goes for the weather). A stiff upper lip and a bit of British Bulldog spirit will see us through :D

:cheers Fizz

Spoke to Monica of Monicas shack yesterday she said they were hoping to find out today and in them meantime is serving drinks and snacks from the hut they use to store the shack in during the monsoon season

I know that at some time or other we have all taken the proverbial out of the Goan's and their ways of doing things. There is one thing they are usually very good at and that is "being resourceful" so seeing that Monica's are finding some small solution to the problem, the others will no doubt follow suit :tup Fizz

Draw of "lots" has been delayed until Wednesday and Thursday ( as announced in Tuesday's Herald). How long it will be after that results are announced, and what protests will take place, and how long it will take to get multitude of additional permissions, and how long it bwill then take to build them..................

I know this won't help those visiting the north, but Iv'e heard that some shacks are already up at Colva and Benaulim, and that's good news for me :)

Calamari as said before is open as it is on private land.

Monicas old shack next door is being built as I sit here watching the boys have just started to put the matting on the roof. As far as we understand though the shack will no longer be monicas but will belong to the new "O" hotel next door to the santana beach.

Plenty of beds as monicas have theirs out next to calamari, it's just that everyone is using calamari for food and drink.

Slightly off topic but the beach down this end is looking ok now that the digger has done his bit of lanscaping! Another few days and I reckon he'll be finished unless we have another cyclone!

There are loads of places open near the river in Baga and plenty of sunbeds and has been since we arrived four weeks ago

If you walk down the beach there are plenty of sunbeds out and you can get a drink or snack if you want

There seems to be a lot of rubbish on here about the shacks, twenty years ago you would have had to be lucky to find one and would only have been able to buy a warm beer or bottle of water certainly no food unless you ordered the day before.

I like the shacks and use them a lot but there are now far to many and much to close to each other.

The shacks not been built until November is not something new nor is the rain.

It is a thousand time better out here and I would not swap places with anybody all IMHO of course

Why not go south if you don't like to many shacks?
Not been to Baga i'll have a look today but i have been to the bottom of Holiday Street again and there are no shacks......only plenty sunbeds! :que Also the shacks are normally up by this time and it is very unusual to have so much rain during November.

Didn't get chance to go to Baga today, has anyone else been? "Britto"s" will be open they only close for 1 or 2 months of the year, but they are on private land.

Text from Ganesh shack today, he says it goes on in court today in Delhi and also 27th Nov - he reckons they will have it sorted 2nd week in December..

Read, learn and inwardly digest (as a teacher at school used to tell me)

By the way, this is not an attempt to spread "bad news", just an update from someone who stays up too late!

Why do you have to be of a certain age to go south meagain?

Two MLA's are beimg blamed for this sham....looks like the middle of december as i said before, and i'm not trying to cause any problems here at all but my own personal opinion of the whole thing is that it is disgusting and i do feel soory for those who have saved hard all year to enjoy their holiday in Goa on the beach and in their favourite shack. :(

Its not only the tourist that is suffering through the lack of shacks. Spare a thought for the hundreds of seasonal workers who rely on their shack earnings and tips to support their families for the whole year. We, the tourist, can always go elswhere for our drinks and lunch but they cant make a living if we do.
