:cry Never mind if the shacks are delayed for a time with a cyclone predicted to hit Goa within the next few days they might be blown down.

Oh dear,

As if they have not had enough to put up with at the moment.I know we all moan about England. The weather, cost of living, etc, etc.

Really though we are pretty lucky to live in reasonably temporate climate. We do not suffer many natural disasters we have a democratically elected government and a civil service who on the whole are honest(with exceptions)

WE have a health care system free at point of need and an education system free to every child.

Lots wrong with Britain at the moment but when you look at Goa well maybe things sre not so bad.

Like to see a reply from a Goan perspective.

MESSAGE FOR PAPA: Just been to the bottom of Holiday Street, walked down onto the beach and not a shack in sight.....or anyone starting to build one! All i could see was one shack that was open set back so maybe on private land.
I spoke to a lad i know in Calangute who works in "Johnnys shack", asked him when the shacks were opening and his reply was "no idea"! :que

I hear the only thing on the beach at the moment is JELLY FISH!!! :yikes

Was puzzled by this lack of activity on the shack building front, until I realised that presumably the drawing of lots still has to take place?
Anyone seen anything about when this will happen (they clearly seem in no rush)?

Papa. I'm suprised that you think it is not good having no beach shacks, surely it is now just like it was when we first went to Goa, you can now walk from the baga river to the fort without falling over sunbeds, without all the different types of music blasting out and you can walk down the beach with out someone saying you buy my rubbish, if it wasn't for that damn boat spoiling the beach and view with no beach shacks I would be tempted back

Lynndan - would we not all like it now like it used to be when we first came here to Goa and anywhere else in the world in the 80's- we went to Vietnam in 1990 but could not imagine it is like it was then - now.
Everybody here in Goa wants to go - has been - or is going to Cambodia soon - thank goodness we went many years ago when there were no shacks or funny pizzas.

Lynndan: Give it another season or 2 and i should imagine you will be able to have the whole beach to yourself i should think!
I wonder how many of the tourists who have visited since the 15th October will return? :think

Well this forum is all about opinions so spaldy is entitled to his.He has been taking a fair bit of flack here but he has a point.

When we first went to Goa there were very few shacks but also not as many tourists. The shacks have grown as tourist demand has grown.Thats what happens as countries develop and attract more tourists.

The point spaldy and many others have been justifiably making is the awful mess the Goan government have been making year after year both in developing sustainable tourism and managing the infrastructure in place.

Most of us would not like to see uncontrolled construction and hundreds more shacks but yesterdays Goa has gone forever.

Corruption it appears is so rife that money buys just about anything.Lots of Goa regulars have had enough and are not shy in voicing just how dissilusioned they have become and the fact that they are moving on.

I completely understand them but many more of us despite all that is wrong with Goa and there is indeed a lot wrong with it still love it.I for one am going on the 24th for a week and more than likely for two weeks in March.

We can only hope that one day Goa gets some decent government who understands the needs of the tourists.

I feel really sorry for the shack owners waiting to start earning this years living and fear prices will rise to cover the higher licences bigger bribes and shorter season.

Come guys, this is getting tedious now. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and some respect from each other. :que

I wouldn't exactly say it was tedious. More a case of stating the TRUTH.

Please give Sarah a break here guys. Even the "I love Goa" brigade are giving her grief on other threads, without any justification.
Our "unpaid" moderators are our biggest asset and do not deserve to be abused in this way.
They have to deal with things as they see them and to accuse them of unfair moderating (in the other thread) is most unfair.
Really good to see that different opinions are being respected on HT,but sad to see that when moderators defend this right they are subjected to abuse.

Neil, Papa, Spaldy, not aimed at you guys, more bat those who are no longer within their "comfort zone", whatever that was, and are now striking out aimlessly................

Another twist in the Shack license process:
My friend and shack owner is now sombre and believe's that shacks will be lucky to running until the end of November.
