Sorry - we always call the Dolphin the Blue one as it always covered in Blue plastic.
Yes they are part of the Golden Eye so are legal where they are.
Will go down to the beach and see what is on there but as we have been here for 2 months think we know more than people in UK about what is happening here on Goan beaches and have stayed here for the winter for the last 14 years.
Sorry just spoken to our shack owner of 15 years, there is no decision on the horizen for the opening of the shacks, it is going to the highcourt. Waterproof is quite correct. UNFORTUNATELY
And while the Goan tourist season descends yet again into farce the tourism minister is in England promoting tourism in Goa at a trade fair. You really could not make it up.

There's an interesting article on this topic on Goanvoice " rival shack owners see eye to eye "
xx lassi

Yes, it was very interesting.
But at no point was there mention of agreement, consensus, etc.
A typical Goan response of " had we not been in dispute and built the shacks they would have been blown away" - from both sides - both Catholic- and both thanking their God for this not happening!
The two sides in this dispute......are......still in dispute, and will remain so indefinitely.
The two attitudes as to who gets a shack, are so diametrically opposed that no easy solution will be forthcoming.
Eventually this will get "fudged over" this year, but absolutely guaranteed, it will crop up again next year!

I think next time we go to Goa it will be in Jan I could not be ars** with all this every year ...colleen
Been to the beach and nothing has changed - Flying Dolphin open and beds on either side but no more shacks built and no word about the dispute.
Friends went to the beach yesterday and said they had to wait a long time for their food from a very limited menu and when they later walked down to Baga saw some of the boys down there were removing the beds from the beach - thinks they must have been told to do it as they were doing it quickly.
Hope they have removed them today as there has just been a very heavy tropical storm

When this started I was amused as the same nonsense happens every year, this time though it seems much more serious. Usually when the squabbling is going on the shack owners start building anyway, but not this year. I think there's more to it this time. It surely is'nt one shack association against the other, as it would be crazy for either one to damage their members livelihood to this extent. With the tourist dept. of the Goverment being involved in the seeming destruction of a major factor of the appeal of Goa, and the huge sums of money being lost day by day, the conclusion must be that somewhere in the background, some very big players must pulling the strings in this dispute. We've visited pre Xmas more or less every year since the late 80s, and somehow or other the usual muddle has solved itself by this time, but not this year. Like many others, the shacks are where a major part of our holiday is spent, but as we leave tomorrow, it looks like not this year. I fear that this latest carry on is going to be the final straw as far as our visits to Goa go, and I suspect for many others as well.

I think that if some of the big hotels are pulling the strings (just guessing of course) in order to keep the tourists around the hotel pool, all that will happen is that people will delay their holiday to Goa until just before Christmas or wait until the new year when the shacks will be up.
We aren't too bothered about whether there are many shacks up, but I know it is important to a lot of people. We have always divided our time on holiday with a few days around the pool and a few days in a shack, which is lucky for us, but not for those who are staying in places where is no pool.

I think you are already being kept up to date Papa
Today it has been said that " maybe " by Tuesday there will be an outcome.

Latest news this afternoon, shack owners going on hunger strike in Panijim tomorrow.
Why do they always seem to think that going on hunger strike is the answer?
I live near a few "owners" it won't do them any harm to lose a few pounds anyway really!
