Royal Caribbean has announced that beginning in January, all cabins and one lounge on each ship will be designated as no-smoking areas. Currently, smoking is prohibited in hallways and corridors, restaurants, entertainment venues and most interior public spaces, except for designated areas in bars and lounges.
After the new policy is in place, passengers may still smoke in certain areas of the outer decks, in designated bars and lounges, and on cabin and suite balconies.
Norwegian also announced revisions to their onboard smoking policy, which are effective immediately. The new policy designates as smoke-free all indoor public areas, with the exception of casinos and cigar lounges. Several outdoor public spaces are affected by the new policy as well - smokers must now stay a "reasonable distance" from restaurants, jogging tracks, recreational areas and children's pools. In cabins and on balconies, guests may still smoke cigarettes, but pipes and cigars are not allowed.
