I thought that this would mean that we would be able to go online and choose our actual seats on the aircraft.
When I tried to do this the other day, the Thomas Cook flights website wanted an extra £115 - I was confused so rang our local TC branch, who I booked the holiday with. They said that the £20 was only to guarantee seats together and not to book the actual seats we wanted - we would now have to pay again to choose the actual seats we want.
Is this correct? How can it be called your seat your choice when I am getting no choice at all? Also, is there another option I could have booked in order to prebook the actual seats on the plane?
I am going in to see them about this next week, so any help would be appreciated.
The £20 is basically prebooked seats, ie seats guranteed be together. The YSYC option is on top of that, where you pick the exact seat numbers you want. so the branch is correct you do have to pay on top.
What you could do, is check in online. You have to buy something to do this, but as you have already paid for pre booked seats separately this may be too late now. (you have to buy/prebook in advance on the website to gain the privilege of checking in online up to 3 days before the flight.)
This is currently availble at all bases TCX fly from.
You may howver be allowed to check in online as you have paid for something (I'm not sure if it all has to be done at the same time!....sorry if this is confusing
ps you can only check in online line for fligths leaving the UK
Are passengers able to check in online for TCX flights chartered for cruises? I am flying on the TCX47K/L to/from Barbados (flying from Gatwick in March).
If it is possible, - how?
Cheers,
Jet
unable to I'm afraid as you need to see the cruise representatives at check in to fill in the compulsory health questionnaires.
But I read further and there are other aircraft listed some say for summer 2010 only....which have a different configuratios and a 30" leg pitch ....
We are going on same package this summer
My holiday confirmation doesnt tell me aircraft type.....so do you know which aircraft will be used for our flights this summer....we fly from manchester on a monday morning flight....and some other family members are flying from gatwick on a monday afternoon flight...as one is tall and another will be pregnant the extra seat pitch would be good....all flights with thomascook

Are TCX becoming the Ryanair of charter airlines?. Sorry do not bother answering that I know it is a bit unfair.
What is not unfair is how confusing just getting to your holiday destination has become.
All airlines and tour operators now adopt this policy of selling you the flight/holiday at a certain price and by the time you have finished the booking the true cost can be several hundred pounds extra.
Now I know this marketing ploy is used by all carriers but what if one of them broke ranks and started offering what used to be called full service.
There just has to be a massive market for this even in the package sector.
I may be too naieve but hey some of us would actually pay not to have to be experts in small print just to book our flight/holiday.

Have you got your flight numbers? A couple of A332's are being reconfigured for Canadian Affair for summer 2010 and will be used on some short haul routes in between trips to Canada. Gran Canaria is not one of them though but I'll need your flight numbers to check as there's lots of different flights through the week. The LGW flights definately aren't served by the A332's, it'll be a Boeing 757-200 as normal (depending on flight number)
Darren
Is it too early to tell which A332 has been assigned to the TCX47K LGW-Barbados departing 20th March? If we need to try and obtain certain seats at check-in then it would be good to know whether it will be one of the original TCX or a former My Travel example.
I am have looked at the seat plans for both types and am wondering if there are any disadvantages to the last 5 rows where the configuration is 2-3-2 - there are only 2 of us so these would seem to suit. I know that there is the probability of toilet queues forming alongside us, but anything else to be aware of?
Lastly, do TCX tend to put families with young children at the back? Something we would rather avoid!
Cheers,
Jet
We won't know the exact aircraft (registration) until the day before. Aircraft are swapped and changed all the time. I like the pairs of seats towards the rear. If you're travelling as a couple, they are ideal. Apart from the distrurbance you mention (which isn't too bad), they're great. Row 37 (the pairs) also give slightly more seat pitch as the seats are angled slightly as it's where the fuselage starts to narrow. Families and children get assigned seats randomly like any other passengers.

Havent got details for the gatwick flight though as had all the paperwork sent to them ...when I was getting details off the net it was a monday 14.50 flight....if they use the A320's from gatwick as well...which seats are best for someone who is pregnant for a bit of extra room....will they allocate certain seats at check in as passenger is pregnant or just any seat.....was thinking it might be a good idea to prebook suitable seats for her and her hubby..
All seats are the same other than extra legrrom so it makes little difference really. Seating is ultimately personal preference.
Darren
update....went on seat guru to see which seats were extra leg room...and only looks like there are 6 and they are by the doors...think can only be booked by able bodied ...so dont think I can make things any more comfortable for them.....according to the chart on seat guru that lists the different seat widths and pitches....the pitch on the thomas cook A320 is 30"for economy....on the HT one it says 28"....do you know if there have been changes and they they are now 30" pitch...or have seat guru got it wrong...tweetie
Some of Seat Guru isn't very accurte. Seat pitch is 28" as per the HT What Aircraft? guide rather than 30". I've travelled on TCX A320's a few times so I know for sure it's only 28", 5 hours on one is more than enough! I linked TCX's own seat plan from the What Aircraft? guide that's more useful than Seat Guru's generic one. Row 1 seats are behind a divider so anyone can sit at them. They're designated medical seats however so can't be pre-booked. I've sat in 1F and although the seats give more room, those with longer legs won't be able to strech them out because of the dividing wall.
Darren
thanks Darren for the correct info.....I was on an A320 last year and thought they were only 28" then...thats why I wondered had there been a change....handy info for others as well who might have seen seat guru's info ..
is there anyone 'in the know' knocking about on the forums who knows what the situation might be? i don't usually get worried about things like this but i've got a gut feeling that this might not be an isolated case, given 2 seperate incoming flights are massively delayed and are now knocking on departures...i am assuming the cayo coco flight follows that of either the above flights hence the problem...
Yes looks like long delays for TCX customers on todays long haul flights.
I don't have an exact answer for you, but I beleive there was a couple of technical issues and there's been some knock-on delays with some long haul flights. I'm sure everything will be back in synch and be fine for you in 4 weeks time.
Darren
thank you dazbo...you are very good at rationalising and calming the worrying flying public...of which i am not normally a member of! i've just re-read my post and anyone would think by the way i was panicking that my holiday had been cancelled or summat!!!! i'll blame it on the raging hangover i had at 8.30 this morning and try to look on the bright side in future...if i end up with hours of delay it's hours of airport shopping and people watching to enjoy...my 2 favourite sports, thanks for the info
This has meant delays and knock ons etc. as no spare planes as it is half term etc.
The Montego Bay has operated on a 767 and will be delayed home due crew issues associated with this
The other flights delayed are on a330s trying to catch up time!
thanks for the update,,, although i feel as sorry for the crew as i do the peeps waiting to get home and get on holiday-i've flown on delayed flights in the past and the amount of people who view the whole situation to be the entire fault of the cabin crew is part hilarious, part embarrassing...
