Hello again!
We're going long haul. Our invoice states:
"Priority seat selection
If you can't wait to select your favourite seats, priority seat selection is available at least 98 days before departure for an additional £6 per person per flight.Priority seat selectionfor your flight is available from Tues 23 Mar 10.Just visit thomascookairlines.co.uk and follow the simple instructions"
Well, I tried that and they want £64! The thing is, it says for and not from.
I know it's probably two different services but picking your seat sounds the same as "your seat your choice".
I guess it's an extra £12 per person on top of the £20 for long haul.Another £64 added to your holiday price. It's terrible to think (and it could happen) that we could be the first couple in the queue as check in opens and we could end up with seats at either end of the 'plane!
David
It is two different services. You pay for reserved seating to guarantee that you are sat together, but could be separated by an aisle or sat infront/behind each other. If you then want to select your seat numbers you pay the additional premium. If you want the priority seat selection it is again an extra on top of the other two. The select your seat is the only way to guarantee you are sat together. As you say, if you don't pay for reserved seating at all, you could end up separated depending on how many people have already paid to sit together.
Yeah, it's a bit of a bummer.Just another case of the airline screwing more money out of passengers whilst creating a scramble for all the best seats. To be honest I prefferd getting to the airport early and having to queue for hours! LOL.
Best wishes.
David
Just another case of the airline screwing more money out of passengers
Haven't we all got what we asked for? People hunt mainly on "price" and many fell in to a trap and believe a flight to Spain can be bought for less that the cost of a train ticket to the airport. To stay visible in the marketplace airlines have found the ploy to advertise a stripped back very basic service to hook the consumer, then offer add-on's to push the price up (debatable to a more realistic level?) with the reasoning that you don't have to pay for these extras (baggage, food, drinks, seat selection etc).
As we know it's not just TCX that do this - but they have probably been forced down this route by other competing airlines and of course by the great British public's demands.
So, the consumer has gotten what we all asked for - low (advertised) prices. So we have all won. Right?
Anyway sorry to go
We're all entitled to our own opinion and that was MINE!
Of course
Have a good Easter weekend
don't forget if flying from Gatwick, if you pre book seats, you can check in on line and avoid all queues at check in.
I used to prefer getting to check in nice and early and sorting seats out then. Seat selection causes airlines so much hassle! I'm travelling on 2nd May to the Dom Rep and haven't bothered paying to select my seats. I wouldn't be bothered if I wasn't sat next to my other half for the flght, and I refuse to pay £64 to choose where I want to sit. As we're in premium I think we automatically get 'seats togeter' anyway.
For those who are having problems entering API into the TC system
Please note API details is being collected for Thomas Cook Airlines and Monarch Airlines only - if you are travelling with any other carrier booked through Thomas Cook these details will be collected at check-in.

I discovered that the poster who was annoyed because he/she couldn't enter API into the TC system, is flying to Luxor on a plane with a Thomson code, operating for TC.
So, check the flight code for your particular flight because this may be the reason why you cannot enter the details into the TC system and it will be collected at the Airport, as per the quote above.

Just a heads up, I received a letter today and Thomas Cook are no longer guaranteeing (sp?) in flight entertainment on flights.

Fragile items such as cameras should be packed in hand luggage. Chargers can go in hold luggage.

If Thomas Cook are showing IFE, can anyone please tell me how many movies are usually available in "economy" class on a long haul flight?
I've never flown long haul with TC and would also be grateful to find out if their systems are comparable to First Choice with regards to "on demand" programmes and games. Many thanks and ejoy the last of the bank holiday weekend!
David
You can view the current listing on pages 116-119 of Thomas Cooks inflight magazine. You'll just need to register with Ink Publishing. There are 3 movies plus several tv and audio channels. Premium passengers get a further 2 movies. The selection changes inound. TCX don't offer on-demand facilities (G-TCXA that does won't be operating TCX long haul this summer) or games, however half the aircraft have external flights camera. I would say the TOM product is slightly better, but then it's a little more modern. It keeps you entertained though. There's further details on our What Aircraft? guide.

Thanks for the info. That's me signed up for the magazine!
Can you please answer another question for me? I've booked "Your Seat Your Choice" with TC and I was wondering if the on-line check in facility is available for Glasgow Airport. I've seen in previous posts (a good while back) that it was only available for the larger airports from down south. I've never used this facility before and if it is available, I'd also like to know how early (or late!) I'd need to be at the airport before travel.
Many thanks for your help.
David
Online check-in is only available at Gatwick, Stansted, Leeds Bradford, Bristol, Belfast and Newcastle at the moment. Other airports the airline flies from will be added shortly. It's only available to those that select their seats, at £12 per flight. Even if you could use online check-in, you'd have to be at the airport at a similar time as desk-check-in to check-bags in and clear security. It only means you'd beat the main check-in queues, not you can arrive at the airport any later. Online check-in is brilliant if you only have hand luggage so you can just go straight through to the departure lounge, but as online check-in becomes more popular, the baggage drop off queues can be just as big as the main check-in queues. You'll notice many airport now advertise 'baggage drop-off' rather than 'fast baggage drop-off' of 2 years ago!

I've booked our seats for an additional £64! Well, at least we won't have to turn up too early to get decent seats.I hate waiting about the airport especially as we are only 5 minutes drive away.

is it possible to find out ,which aircraft we will be traveling to mexico on? tcx 36k.
Just wondering if anyone can answer this, I have read some previous posts on here but couldn't find the answer I was looking for - sorry if I've missed it somewhere.
We are travelling to Mexico on the 10th May, when we booked our holiday we were charged £40 (for two of us) for what the woman kept calling "Your Seat Your Choice" but from what I can tell is just regular seats together.
They told us that we THEN would need to go on Thomas Cook Airlines and pay £6 each to pick our seats on top of the £40 which we were happy with. However it is £32 each way. So that coupled with the £40 we've paid is over £100 just to sit together? Is this for real?
We were told if we do not want to pay the extra £6/£32 that we could wait until the 3rd of May and log on and it will be free - I was just wanting to confirm if this is true since nothing we've been told so far has been accurate? If it is true how does it work? Does the price just go off the same site if you log on nearer the time?
