bjones4,

Welcome onboard :tup
LGW-TFS-LGW (TOM4644/4) are operated by a Boeing 767-304/ER (winglets). You'll find further aircraft information on our What Aircraft? guide (link below).

Morning Darren, are you able to tell me which plane is doing the TOM070 LGW-PUJ today please? Did it come in from Puerto Plata ? I'm flying on this flight next week so just wanted to see if I could second guess which plane it might be. Cheers :sun2 WATB

WATB,

As you know, aircraft are rotated regularly so the one operating todays flight may not be the one doing next weeks. It's an ex-FCA 76W normally and comes in from Puerto Plata (TOM066/7). I don't have the ACARS logs for today as yet, but it should be G-OBYD (ex-TOM) operating it. This could be a change to the original flight due to them being an aircraft short at the moment.

Hi again :)
Was wondering if you have any idea if the plane scheduled for TOM046 LGW to SFB on saturday has premium seating or is the rescue aircraft yet.

Was also wondering what are your experiences of light to moderate snow at LGW? Does it hamper flights badly or does it need to get to last years epic proportions?
(Not the right place to ask this i know but while ive got your ear thought id ask :) )

Tugboat,

As far as I know, it's the regular aircraft assigned for that flight (ex FCA 763) although an ex-TOM has been used 50% of the time over the last month. They all have premium seating although the ex-TOM have 31 seats compared to 63. If your booking had changed, you'll have been notified by now. LGW is as well equiped as other airports when the snow falls. Snow is a major hazard to aircraft on the ground. If we have the snow that is forcast, there may be ground delays subject to the local conditions but no one will know what to expect until it happens. I'm sure the airport will have already put their winter ops in place. Runways and taxiways are treated with anti-ice fluid at this time of year much in the same way that roads are treated with salt to prevent icing conditions but if snow falls to the extent that is starts to cover surfaces, they have to be closed for clearing. The snow at the beginning of this year was far in excess of what we'd normally have, hence the problems it caused. Stopping a car weighing maybe 1,500kg at 30mph on an icy or slushy surface is difficult enough, imagine what stopping >100,000kg at 150mph is like! That's why ground delays occur under those conditions, in the interest of safety.

G-OBYD is still operating in 328 configuration, so if your on this it will be short haul configuration. - Having one aircraft short and a few challenging weeks with diversions etc.. there hasn't been enough time to spare to at least get this aircraft into a long haul configuration. All the normal "gaps" have been filled with problems.

Hiya.......thanks for the info........if we do end up on G-OBYD, does this plane still have a premium cabin ? we are in row 5 outbound and row 2 inbound........my hubby is 6'4" and won't do a 9 hour flight without a lot of leg room. As we fly on 1 Dec and I've not heard anything from First Choice I'm guessing no news is good news ?? Cheers WATB

WATB,

G-OBYD is currently in the 328 seat short haul configuration (no premium cabin) as BY-TOM-AMM-FCA mentions above. I've flown from Manchester to St Lucia, then onward to Barbados and back to Manchester on one of these (before the refit) and although they aren't as comfortable as the usual long haul configuration, they aren't all that bad and just about adequate for the journey (in my opinion). If you've not heard anything, your flight should be unnafected.

Boeing Dreamliner yet again in the news today - further delays again to be expected after a recent in(test)flight fire means they have to redesign the power distribution system!!
If Thomson are getting rid of PJLO and DBLA next year - will they get something else to plug the gap?!

rhodgreen,

I would imagine the aircraft will stay with them until their replacements arrive, assuming there are further delays.

Hi Darren,

I'm flying out to Samana on 15th Dec TOM48. I pre-booked my seats a few weeks ago on the flightextras website but I have not yet had an email to confirm the seat numbers so I can print it off and take with me as proof. When I went back on to the website the other day to have a look at the seat numbers again (I have forgot!) it didn't give me an option to access it through my booking so I haven't got a clue now. I went into the Thomas Cook shop where I booked the holiday and they couldn't help me either because they didn't have authorisation to go on the Thomson database. :que All I know is I'm sitting behind the front exit seats nearest to the premium cabin on the right side of the plane. Will this information be on the boarding card do you know or will I have to give Thomsons a ring whatever number that may be as we do not have a Thomsons in my town.

Many thanks

Mdollar,

Don't worry, everything is held electronically so you'll get your seats. You don't get email confirmation and once you've chosen them, you can't go back on to the system to change them. Everything will be fine, don't worry.
