Usually the Thomson ships sail beween 11pm and 12am, sometimes later if the flights are delayed. There will definitely be chance to look round Palma.

We are travelling on the destiny on 3rd Nov on the colourful coasts cruise. We sail at 11pm but we are wondering at what time they do the safety drill as I believe it is compulsory that all passengers attend.

They normally do it on the morning of the first full day at sea.

Is it worth getting Moroccan money for our call into Agadir, or are euros taken.
Reply
If I remember correctly they will take euros, but will give you a very poor rate and you will get any change in local currency.

Be very careful with the local taxi drivers in Agadir as they will fleece you as quick as look at you. We agreed a price before getting in, but once we got dropped off the driver said the price was per passenger!

Personally we don't think it is worth the hassle to get off the ship or to DIY in places like Agadir or La Goulette in Tunisia and would recommend going on an organised excursion.

Also be careful as when we stopped here some passengers from the ship got in a taxi and taken on a so called "joy ride" completly different to where they asked to go. He refused to take them any further or back to the ship (as they were so distraught)until they paid up :(
Not sure really what to suggest there as once you are in the taxi thats it.
I heard they were going to finish that stop, but seems to be still in operation

Our cruise is coming around very quickly now, only two weeks to go! I have read previously about the 110 voltage - is it a complete waste of time taking ghd straighteners and will our mobile phones/cameras charge up sufficiently? Please advise. :hmmm

My straighteners didn't heat up sufficiently on the 110v on the Island Star recently, although I've managed to use them in the States.

You can take your mobile phone and charger to the Purser's Desk and they will charge it up for you if you don't have a dual or variable voltage charger.

My straighteners and phone charged fine on the spirit, but I don't know what the voltage was.

The Spirit has both 110v and 220v sockets, however the Destiny only has 110v.

hy there i am off this friday with my wife and two kids 9 and 11 (although they think they are 18 )can someone let me know things for them to get up to on the destiny.and whats the kids clubs like .thanks glen xx
Reply
I don't have kids and they won't allow me in the Kids Club so I can't answer that bit but if you're going Friday you need a quick response and someone with kids may not reply in time!

I think the kids club operates for a couple of hours a day, and I think it is split into age groups. Additionally they have basketball hoops/mini-court, table tennis etc. If they aren't on land sightseeing with their parents, a lot of kids hang out round the family pool and terrorise the reps while they are trying to do the quizzes, and there are also two films shown per day in your cabin. Hope that helps for now until some Kids Club experts turn up!

I only know about the kids clubs on the Spirit but I'm sure they'll be very similar on the destiny. Theres an activities room open almost all day, and lots of different activities during the day lasting for a couple of hours each. You hardly ever see kids on Thomson ships so there's clearly enough for them to do.

Looking forward to going on Destiny Colourful Coasts on 20/10/06, a surprise birthday present for my wife (she still doesn't know where we are going yet - going to tell her on the day we fly!). Its good to read about so many positive experiences, i'm sure we wont be disappointed.
Noticed a few comments on the plugs in the cabin. Will a standard USA adaptor 2 pin be sufficient to allow me to recharge phone, camcorder, camera, etc? :D :sun

Hi jamlog and welcome to HT!

Unfortunately the US adaptor will only mean that your appliances will fit the sockets, but they will have to be dual, ie 110V/220V, or variable voltage before they will work.

One of my mobile phone chargers is variable voltage and does work as does my dual voltage hairdryer, but my straighteners are 220V and take forever to heat up and don't work that well.

New webcams for the Destiny now that it on its winter route:

On Fridays: http://www.puertosdetenerife.org/
(click the webcam box on the right hand side) - this camera changes every 20 seconds so you may need to wait up to 4 minutes to see the Destiny!

On Mondays: http://www.madeira-web.com/camera/cam-04.html

If I find anymore, I shall come back and update it, providing we're allowed to have these links of course, if not apologies, feel free to moderate and delete me!
