Do you know if they were further forward than the lifts? We're about 5 cabins from the lift (on the left hand side as you walk towards the front of the boat). I'm hoping this will be quiet. It's number 3062 we've booked - do you expect this will be ok?

Have just looked on the deck plan and 3062 seems to be in the perfect location as explained to us onboard and should be nice and quiet.

That's good news - thanks!

Booked Destiny for next July. Luvly...
Ive had a cruise around the Caribbean. Used onboard credit cards then.
1. Does the Med Cruises with Thompsons use the same format. ???
2. If so. Do you need a credit card to open the account for the onboard card. as with the Caribbean Cruise Liner - Celebration :thanks ????
Anyone else going on 17th Jul 08. on the Destiny. ???

Yes it's exactly the same. You open an account either by completing a form which you hand in at check in or at the Purser's desk. Credit card is the preferred method of payment although some lines allow you to use a debit card or leave a cash deposit of around £200.

You then use your boarding card to pay for everything onboard. You can check your balance at any time at the Purser's Desk.

just readon a web site that all thomson cruises are non-smoking but #smoking areas' are available. Do any smokers have any expewrience of this and does this mean I won't be able to have a ciggy in the cabin? I know that non-smokers will now be up in arms but needs must etc. :smokin

Hi Charliegirl. The rules seem to be changing all the time! However, according to thomson's own website the rules are the same as last year- "smoking is permitted in cabins but strongly discouraged". Kate

Hi! Does anyone know how long the transfer time is from Tenerife South Airport up to meet the ship in the North.
Last year we flew into Tenerife North and it was great only about 20 mins or so down to the harbour. They seem to have stopped offering this option this year.

Also anyone got any Thomson discount codes. There were loads around this time last year but everyone I have found so far has expired.

Hi Duncan,

The journey usually takes about 45-60 minutes, depending on your time of arrival and rush hour traffic.

There is a Promotional Codes topic in our General Holiday Enquiries forum, but I have seen people asking recently for a Thomson's code as all the ones listed have expired.

I have found one code that works 00001913, this give a £20 discount.

BUT - I have just booked a week in Dom Republic, Exactly the same deal as Thomson with extras like sitting together and in flight meals but with Portland Direct and it was £120.00 cheaper.

Worth a try, its the same flight, transfers, Hotel deal. Portland also offer the Thomson Cruises.

Love these new smilies by the way!

hi all , ive booked the family for a two week cruise july this year, im trying to budget and work out the cost of the trips we would want to take, were not very confident travellers hence though through reading this board we see that most trips can be undertaken cheaper if you do it yourself wed rather go through thomsons hence.....

my questions are can trips be booked prior to getting on the boat i want to make sure we get the ones we want without fear of them being sold out...

also from looking at thomsosn website it qoutes some rough costs i think a full day in rome was something like 75 pounds per person , is that adult price do children aged 12 pay less??

asny advice help appreciated, we are all very excited about this trip so we want it to go like clockwork

cheers

Haven't been on the Destiny but I assume it is the same for all Thomson ships. You can't book trips in advance. They usually have a "port showcase" on the first day of the cruise telling you all about the ports of call and trips they operate. You can book here or you can leave it a while, although the more popular trips do fill up. There are reduced prices for children and if memory serves me correctly this is for under 16s.

I was worried on my first cruise but there really is nothing to be worried about! This year will be our fourth cruise with Thomsons and we have never had a problem.

thanks for the speedy reply ,you obviusly must rate thomson cruises if you keep going on them and that is very reassurung to know, ive got a few more questions you might be able to help me with ,

my wife is concerend about the size of cabins and especially the amout of clothes to take for a two week cruise , as she says she wouldnt normally have to take too many dressy up clothes on holiday so having formal nights while it sounds fun means cramming in posh clothes into the cases, just how formal are these nights especially in july ,well actually we board the 26th june for two weeks......do men wear tuxedos....even a formal dark suit feels out of place to me in mid summer, would i be out of palce if i wore balzer and chinos and a shirt tie or a light summer suit, i dont want to be the odd one out , likewise the wife isnt sure just how dressy she should pitch her clothes at either,
whatever info you can supply will be most appreciated

cheers

Hi - the outfit you describe will be fine. Your wife can wear formal evening dress if she wishes, or just a nice cocktail style dress - there is a real mix of both. We are about to go on our 5th thomson cruise so be warned - its addictive!

I like the chance to dress up, so take one long dress and use it for both formal nights over the 2 weeks. The rest of the time I dress as I would if I was going out to a restaurant in England. I tend to recycle the outfits over the 2 weeks, so definately don't take something different for every night.

If you are worried about the luggage allowance, it tends to be more generous than say easyjet - we also take some heavier items in hand luggage, if we think we are going to be over. Also, we took our teenage boys, who tended to travel lighter than us, so we used some of their allowance! There is loads of room to hang clothes - we get a standard inside cabin, and there is a wardrobe each.

I agree with Gill. My hubby used to take a cream jacket and dickie bow for the formal nights but many men just wore a lounge suit or jacket, tie and chinos. I have noticed that the dress code has become more relaxed with each cruise. I used to wear black trousers with an assortment of different tops. Although the cruise news specifies different dress codes for different evenings, really you could just wear the type of clothes you would wear on an evening out ( apart from casual evenings). Only take one weeks clothes for the 2 weeks and wear everything twice.
We always took far too much and some things never saw the light of day ( or should that be night :rofl )
The cabins are very small but you don't spend much time in there. Ladies need to take a cardi or shawl as the air conditioning on the ship makes it rather chilly.
