The Destiny used to be the Sunbird and when we were on it you couldn't put the beds together.

We had cabins 3200 and 3208 last october. 3200 was L shaped beds and 3208 was two singles with drop down bunk above one of them. We did get quite a bit of engine noise but you get used to it . All the cabins on this deck have picture windows.
Does anyone know any quiet cabin numbers on deck 2/3, or does anyone know if you can upgrade your cabin after booking? We booked through thomson's website. I'm a little concerned about noise, I live in a very quiet area, and I'm not used to any noise at night.
We were in cabin 2123 last week very quite ship wise,( just wish the 2 girls in next cabin had a bit more consideration.) This was 2 singles tho which was fine as i went with my mum and it also had a porthole. brill
We are going on the Thomson Destiny next week on The Mediterranean Renaissance cruise. Just a few questions if anyone can help us out.
First of all can we smoke on this boat?
Secondly we are calling at Palamos in Spain. Does anyone know if you can buy Embassy No 1 cigarettes here and if so how much are they?
Finally are there any tabacs close to the port in Palma (we have a late flight to palma and an early flight back to the UK)
Many thanks
There is a Tabac near the port in Palma, but not sure if it will be open late or early.
Yes you can smoke in certain parts of the ship, the 2 places i remember are lido deck on one side and oklahoma lounge on one side, im sure there are other places but not sure were they are.
We are going on the Destiny this thursday, and just wondering if any one else is coming to.
Also does any one know what time is second sitting please.

Already been this summer:-)
Avoid cabin 3232 as this is not only extremely noisy but also vibrates considerably. I challenge anyone to sleep through it. It is the last cabin at the rear deck 3. Also spoke to couple in same cabin on oppsite side of the ship and they had the same problem. On saying this we did not let it spoil an otherwise lovely week.
Have booked Med Renaissance on the Destiny for July 08. Have read some reports good and bad about the ship and shore excursions.
1. Shore Excursions - Should we book with ship or go it alone to Rome and Pisa etc. If we go it alone how much for trains and buses and can you advise on directions etc.#
2. How was your experience on the ship. She looks fine to me.
3. We are doing a Stay/Cruise. Staying at the Talayot in Cala Millor. Have you any advise on this hotel.
Any advise good or bad gladly accepted.
Thanks in anticipation.

I have merged your post with an existing topic on the Destiny which may have some information and discussion on shore excursions.
There is also a sticky topic at the top of the Forum "DIY Shore Excursions - Med Area" which will give you some pointers and advice on how to get to Rome DIY.

Second sitting is 8:30pm.
I'm curious about Baileys, Caipirinhas and Mojitos (all free on AI on Celebration - so I am hoping destiny might be the same???)???
You had to pay a supplement for Baileys (Dont know about the others), even if you had a speciality coffee with Baileys in you had to pay the supplement. Approx 95pence I think.
Not sure about the Destiny but Baileys certainly came into the AI on board the Celebration. My wife drank loads!
We intend booking the Destiny cruise from Santa Cruz in January.
I am anxious about avoiding engine noise as there will be four of us in 2 cabins. It has taken a lot of persuading to get my brother on a cruise as the only other boat he has been on was an overnight ferry to France where his cabin was next to the engine room!
Do you think it is worth the upgrade to an inside cabin on Deck 4 rather than an Outside on Deck 3?
We would really prefer an outside on Deck 4 but that is an extra £70pp so am trying to compromise.
Also I believe we have to choose first or second sitting for dinner in advance - if we do that will it not matter if we sometimes decide to use the self service restaurant instead some evenings, or do we need to notify if we wont be using our dinner seating reservations?
Finally I have read that the self service buffet is open to the elements(unlike on the Spirit) so does it get chilly eating there?
Thank you.
Oh forgot to ask also, is the sail away party on the first evening good and what time does it sail please?
Although you would have an allocated table and time to dine, you have the choice to eat at the buffet restaurant if you choose on any night. You would not lose your dining slot, and do not need to notify anyone. Given there are four of you, other dining companions should not be an issue and you may be allocated a table for only four people.
Sail away is fine, and could be in or outdoors depending on weather. We did the Canaries cruise a couple of years ago in Feb, and weather was mixed (but still warm), so not absolutely guaranteed wall to wall sunshine.
Enjoy much.
I was told that that front cabin on deck 4 was available and it was convertible to double. I didn't want the very front of the boat though. I'd booked deck 2/3 outside, and when I called the cabin booking number they were giving me option to upgrade then.
Could it be worthwhile just booking outside 2/3 and then seeing what they have if you call to prebook a cabin? For £35 per cabin you could avoid noise, I'd say it's not worth paying £70 per person (and you may even end up paying another £35 and pre selecting a cabin number). Just my thoughts.
As for sail away. I'm guessing 12 midnight because that's when it was when we did this cruise on the topaz. The itinerary is switched around though, so it could well be different. Actually I have just looked at how close Las Palmas is (we previously went to La Palma first) and it is extremely close - so I'm going to say it must be midnight even though it's an 8am arrival at las Palmas.
As for mealtimes. We chose late sitting. We may end up eating in the Lido buffet anyway as we're vegetarians and the other one might not suit us. Early sitting is 630-7 according to their website and late is 8-9. I seem to remember reading it was 830 for late. I chose late because I thought if we're out all day (maybe late lunch ashore) and then get back aboard late (departure times from ports are sometimes quite late!) then you may want to relax and get ready and have a pre dinner drink or cocktail (I like the sound of the bar right up top). By then it could easily be 830.
