On Destiny last April around the canaries. Had to sit at the same table every evening for meal in the seven seas which I was really worried about, but do have to say we had the best time ever and had lovely companions so much so we were always the last table to leave every evening. I am afraid didn't see any tables for two. There were six of us altogether at our table. I am sure you will have a great time.

Hello Again
Has anyone travelled on the Destiny Carribbean starting 21st December?
In the brochure it says that the ports are visited in a different order on this and 12th April departure dates. I am travelling on the 12th April and am trying to book an excursion independantly but need to know what day we will be in Tortolla.. As usual Thomson just tell me to wait and see ... Nothing new there then.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Hi
Question for the ladies probably?
Just wondering what the lighting is like in the inside cabins (just thinking about applying makeup and don't want to look like a clown upon emerging from the cabin!)
i can take my own little mirror/lamp if necessary.
god i probably sound so vain for posting this! sorry!
:rofl

hi,plenty of lighting to do hair and make-up. was on the destiny in september2008 and although we had an outside cabin we needed the lights most of the time and i saw plenty of ladies emerge from the inside cabins with not a hair out of place. and no you are not vain, just taking pride in your appearance. even men need a light to shave!!!!! dont forget to pack adaptors in case you bring hair straighteners etc . only hairdriers are provided..
have a great time. :cheers

Hi Suzanne

I always book an inside cabin on Destiny, and the lighting inside is very good. There is good light at the bathroom mirror and also around the mirror at the dressing table. ;)

hi suzanne.
if you google the thomas destiny, you wil be able to find the layout of the ship.
the lower the deck, the more noise you will have. try to book a cabin in mid-ship as this is the part of the ship where you will feel the least motion. we had a cabin on deck 5 and there was the occasional bit of shuddering. but nothing that would disturb you. i wil say this to you though, be first into the cabin and make a beeline to the bed under the window as the other bed is tiny and has a shelf overhead.i am afraid they dont convert to make a double bed. we only ate in the seven seas once as we did not want to be tied to mealtimes. there were two settings, 7 and 9. you must decide when you board which setting you want and thats your setting for the week.
we ate in the lido cafe on the nineth deck. while the surroundings were not great, the food was very good. plenty of choice and all you can eat.
be aware also that there is a very, very strict no-smoking policy on board. the only place you can smoke is on the port side of deck nine. but of course if you are a non-smoker you will be delighted.
i could not find fault with any of the staff. each and every one of them were one them were lovely. cant tell you about the children as we travelled during school term so there were only a couple of very small children in buggies.
any other concerns you have just ask. i was the same when i booked my first cruise last year.
enjoy the experience and have a lovely time. :cheers

Tip.
The tv socket up high on the wall, is a proper 2 pin socket. The mirrors are those silly american type sockets. (flat pins) If you take a small 3 plug extension lead. Plug it into were the tv is using the 2 to 3 adaptor, then you have an extra three plugs to use. My wife had to use her tongs in the hall last year. Not amuzed. I just have to slap cream on my slap head and im ready. :cheers

The wife was only allowed to smoke in 2 locations on the Destiny.
1. Top deck port side.
2. Back door of the Oklahoma Lounge. Back of Ship

Yep my wife's worked okay in Summer 2008. The only awkward thing is the plugs. The plug beside the mirrors are the flat american 2 pin type sockets. TV socket up high is a normal 2 pin (round). Take a small extension lead with a 2 pin adaptor and plug it into the TV socket. Then you have a lead which will run to the dressing table.
Enjoy your cruise. :cheers

There are no ironing facilities on any of the decks. Smoking is allowed on deck 9, back of the oaklahoma and also on one side of deck 7. Just got back on Jan 19th

I want people to realise that some of the prices for Thomson cruises can be beaten and by superior cruise lines. An example is this May. You can get a Royal Caribbean cruise on Splendor of the Seas from Venice to Greek Islands and back, with flights for £499. A Med cruise on the Destiny for a similar date from Palma is currently advertised at £629 !

I have been on both ships and can assure you there is no comparison, apart from they are both cruise ships. I am not wanting to upset anyone, I just want you to realise that there are some very good deals out there and easily found by searching the Internet or on Teletext. There is a lot of spare capacity on most ships so competition is fierce.

Hi bobstheboy.
Your right, there is always a deal to be had. If you enjoy bartering, then im sure if you told the telesales people at Thomsons about RCL prices, they would probably match it, pending availability. And yes, there is far superior ships to Thomsons. Thomson ships are small compared to the rest of the big liners. The facilities and service Thomson offer, is just as good. Destiny is their biggest ship - only hold 1400 passengers. But they manage to give their customers individual attention. Ive been on the big liners around the caribean. Ships probably hold 4000 passengers and they are lovely ships. But you feel like an ant in an ant nest. Far toooooo big. (It took the wife and me 2 1/2 hours just to get off the ship at the Cayman Islands). (Not good). Thomson ships - you can just walk off at your leisure. Pros and cons on all ships, but book the one you think you will be happy with. :que
