Couldn't agree more. Staff and crew are what makes the Thomson cruises so special. Well I am glad the Destiny is getting a little spruced up she was looking a little bit tired last time I was on board. :cheers

Looking for a cruise on one of the Thomson ships next year(Done the Colourfull Coasts 2 years ago, brill time) Looking for a med cruise, preferably eastern med, May June time,Anyone seen any good deals AI would be a bonus.

Spoke to Thomson's call centre recently.
The only Thomson Ship (according to the young lady I spoke to), doing the AI drinks package was the Destiny. All other Thompson Ships you will have to get your wallet out.
Good Luck. :cheers

we got AI on the celebration for next July BUT booked a year in advance - I think the AI packages tend to be offered to early bookers - we might not get the last minute bargains but we will be too tipsy to care!!

From our experience on the Destiny I would say that the all inclusive package is for big drinkers only. The bar prices on board are not as expensive as you would think (about the same as UK).

If. like us, you have a drink before dinner, some wine with your meal, and two or three drinks afterwards you will save a considerable amount on the AI package (unless you get it for nothing of course).

We are going on the Thomson Destiny next week and while away there is a European football game on. Can anyone tell me wether there is anywhere on board where you can watch the match if its on TV/Sky etc, can you watch it in your cabin ? Thanks in anticipation, my daughter who is the football fanatic is beginning to panic.... The rest of us will enjoy being on holiday.

They show selected matches sometimes in the cabin and sometimes in the cinema if I remember. The standard channel is Sky News but they change it when there is a match on. Ask the Entertainments team if they can show the match. They usually make an announcement and there is a mass exodus :rofl

We have been offerred the Destiny as a replacement for the cancelled Island Star. I am considering buying the A/I package but was wondering about the actual prices on board. Can anyone tell me the price of say a pint of lager, a glass of wine and perhaps a vodka and tonic. Whilst we don't fall over an awful lot I'd still prefer the A/I if it's worthwhile.

Thanks,

Jim

People like myself tend to say they are not big drinkers so the AI package deal would not be worth it. I was on the Destiny in July. Myself, Wife & Daughter (9). Picture this. Sitting on the top side. Blistering heat. Drinking loads of minerals (price £1.05) per can. Fancy a Cocktail (£2.95). Maybe fancy a Beer (pint £2.45). Going to evening meal (wine by glass £2.20). Fancy an Irish Coffee after your meal (£2.95). Head down to watch the caberet show and fancy a Gin (£2.55 with Tonic £1.05 per tin). In the mean time your child is running around buying tins of coke & fanta. Times that by 7 Days and Nights. Your bar bill will add up. If you dont get the AI Thrown in as a package, I can assure you that it is worth paying the £150 p/person. Captured audience at the bar every night and you will buy a drink or three. And this is from a person who dosnt drink a lot. The price list I have is from July 2008 so in July 2009 it could change. If I can work it out how to do it I will post this bar menu on this site. :cheers
Good Luck

Hi colinbredin, if you could manage to post the price list from this year that would be brill.

I agree. We always get the AI and we are practically teetotal but all these soft drinks, non alcoholic cocktails, hot chocolates etc mount up. Multiply that by the number of children you have and before you know it, you have a big bar bill.

We have managed to get the AI free as we booked for the caribbean as soon as they came out! There are 5 of us and it is very worthwhile. With 3 children its amazing how much soft drinks they go through and at approx £1 per time I am very pleased to have the package. :cheers

Thanks guys,

One more question about the Destiny. We have been allocated a de-luxe cabin as a replacement for our Balcony cabin on the Star. According to the brochure some of these cabins have a resticted view because of the lifeboats, we can book a cabin with no restriction but it will cost £35. Can anyone advise on these cabins, if we pay the choices are cabins 7023 or 7025 and whether the resticted view is very bad.

Thanks,

Jim

They don't have a cinema!

I've been four times, the only time I've been aware of a football game on is for an England Game during World Cup 2006, which was shown in the Oklahoma Lounge with food laid on at half time, however I think this is something saved for big England Games, I've never been aware of any other football shown on board. It was a big drama to get the channel, they'd managed the week before to show an England game via German satellite with German commentary only but we were lucky in that whilst docked in Livorno they'd managed to pick up BBC1 for that game - so I don't think its that easy for them to get live football so you may be unlucky but good advice from hbrac to speak to the Entertainments Team as they are the ones sorting it out .

My humblest apologies for misleading you regarding the cinema. Perhaps it's the Spirit / Celebration I'm thinking of. Anyway, back to the beautiful game, we were able to watch a match whilst onboard so as I said, just ask then Entertainments team. :tup

Hi,

my husband and I are going on our first cruise this Wednesday and can't wait. We're on the Moorish Delights cruise on the Destiny. We're on our honeymoon and travelling with a young baby.
I get horrendously sea sick so have stocked up on Sturgeon and will take an injection if need be, so hopefully I should be OK.
I've heard mixed reports about the Destiny, but providing it's clean and not falling apart (!) then we'll be happy. We're not expecting 5 star luxury - we usually holiday in Goa!
I'm just looking for some reassurance we're going to enjoy it really ... nerves as well as excitement are creeping up now. Is there any way of looking at advance weather reports to see if any storms are heading our way? Are there any usually rough seas on route?
any tips on how to get the most out of our honeymoon cruise?

Thanks very much.

Hi Jackie,

thanks very much for getting back to me and giving some reassurance we're going to enjoy it. Can't wait! If I think of any more questions today I'll drop you a line if that's OK.

Thank you.

Hi VinsterDJ,

Jackie is right. The Destiny is a good ship. I think its the biggest one that Thomson currently have.
We were on her in July 08. Loved it that much we booked her again next year. 2 Weeks back to back.
Moorish Delights and Jewel of the Med Trips. 30th July 09. Long way away. :(
The cabins are very small but very well presented and kept very clean by the staff. (2 adults and a 9 year old) in my party but after the initial hurdle of getting our bags unpacked we found it fine, considering we were not in there much.
Food great, staff great, drink great, service great.
You will enjoy it. Congratulations and I hope you have a great time. :cheers
I find a wee G&T sorts the sea sickness out. !!
