Hope this isn't me wandering off topic a bit here but I have to mention the reps issue. I understand that their job is underpaid and difficult. I've met some fabulous reps and have a lot of respect for what they do. And here's the but!! But they choose to do this difficult job and go to the various locations. If the rep did not believe they had the skills or training to work in a high risk(weather wise) area like Mexico, then they should not go and do the job. Looking after a large amount of people is a tremendous responsibility but they take it on all the same. The customers rely on the reps especially at a difficult time for example, when Wilma hit.
Disasters can and do happen everywhere. And if you are in the service industry, you have to be prepared for these things. If you haven't got common sense, a calm and level headed personality, sufficient training and some good life experience, then please don't apply for a job as a rep.

Cazzholly - I can not believe that you were not informed you could cancel until Saturday 22.10.05 as Cancun airport was closed from Thursday 20 October.

They were obviously waiting for you to cancel so that YOU would lose your money.
They would have known on Thursday or most definately Friday that there was no way anyone could fly to Cancun for quite a while.

Thomas Cook and other airlines etc were obviously waiting to see if hurricane deviated before making the decision to cancel, which is, after all, a massive decision, bearing in mind the amount of passengers also waiting to get on the aircraft to come back to UK.

This next bit is a strange one. ThomsonFly have started flying back to cancun already, first flight ex LGW was last Sunday. Thomas Cook have cancelled until mid december. Strange how Thomson are flying when no other British airline is! People must be snapping up bargains on teletext or Thomson are sending them to sub standard hotels!

Nothing surprises me about Thomson's anymore!

Stevie Dee - Did the newspaper article you mentioned previously ever get published?

Again it is Thomsons fault that passengers board a flight to Mexico are these people sheep they dont have to go.
I note I never recived a reply to my question as to what did the Britsh Consulate do to help.I have been an expat 26yrs and the answer is nothing as usual.

To my kmowledge the interview has not been published I think the Tour Operators may have had something to do with that.

As for the British Consulate they did nothing at all in.We had no contact with them what so ever .On 23rd October someone from the U.S Consulate took our details and said they would pass them on, as to who I dont know ..The only time we had a head count was when we where leaving the Shelter to go to Merida on 24th October. Not bad hey 5 days after Wilma arrived..

To Stevie Dee,
I think the lesson is dont go to the hurricane belt in the season, save a little more and go later then your hard earned money wont have been wasted.Everyone is sorry for the people who worked hard for thier holiday BUT its a chance you take this time it went badly wrong. And i am not saying Thomsons acted in a correct way,its the old story,we have your cash!!!!.

Website has been updated today and understand they have now cancelled all Cancun holidays until February 2006. It's not easy to find this information you need to go to the thomas cook website, click on help. Then search in Holidays / Holiday Amendments, scroll down and you'll find Update Hurricane Wilma.

I did try a straightforward search for the hurricane but came up with zero results.

This is a topic regarding thomson. Why go on thomas Cook website? they are different companies!!!

Thomsons flying passengers to Cancun again. Thomas Cook are not

Nuflow, thanks for the information regarding Thomas Cook. Whilst appreciating that this is a thread regarding Thomsons, there seems to be little info available on this site for people going to Cancun area in the next few months. Maybe you should start a new thread in the Carribean section nuflow .... someone travelling with Thomas Cook before 3rd Feb 06 (or with Cosmos before 29th Jan 06) might like to know that their much awaited holiday is about to be cancelled!

Are Thomsons the only UK Company flying to Cancun?

Indeed believe Thomson are the only ones flying to Cancun at the moment. Heard that due to poor load factors they will be combining the Manchester and Gatwick flight for a while. Not sure if this means a MAN/LGW/CUN/LGW/MAN rotation or LGW/MAN/CUN/MAN/LGW.

Rumour is Thomas Cook, Airtours and Kuoni will not return to Cancun until March 2006.

I have heard that Thomson have cancelled all flights to Cancun until Mid March.Maybe then they will upgrade the interiors of the aircraft because at the moment they are very dated .I for one will not be flying long haul with them for a while there aircraft need updating

.Regards Stevie

Stevie Dee - where did you hear that they are not flyiing to cancun until March?

You can book with them to Cancun for December 05.
Reply
i think they have cancelled holidays to cancun but you can still go to playacar and riviera maya as a friend of mine is going to playacar at christmas
Reply
Thomson are flying but only for stays in riviera maya and playacar region,Cancun itself starts again on 1st jan 06. Airtours recommence on the 28/12/05 with stays only in those areas only, but recommence Cancun itself in January 2006.
First choice recommence on Jan 1st from Manchester to All resorts and Thomas Cook it seems are not starting until Feb 5th 2006 to all resorts.
Hope this clears up the rumours.

It's all gone very quiet.
Anyone had any luck with compensation from Thomson's yet?

I booked with Thomas Cook and had a cheque for 1/4 of our holiday waiting for me when I got home, with that and some money from the insurance company, we were only out of pocket to the tune of £600 and we had 5-6 good days out of 14. We paid £2400 for the holiday.

On what grounds were you able to claim on your insurance?
